Steve Walton Made that same desition 4 years ago.Traded in my 2003 Blackbird for a new 2012 VFR It handles, stops and excellerates better than the Bird, yes the Birds top speed is higher but how often do you ever get there. It is a very very quick motorbike. Have fitted K&N filter ,Acrapovik can and power command v.
anthony hoskin Thankyou for your thoughts, so no regrets from you then? Is yours the first gen or 2012 onwards model? I ask as my main gripe is the fuel range. Cheers.
Schönes Video. Tolle Maschine. Geile Strecke. Nur fährt der Kamerad fast durchgängig zu weit am Mittelstrich, lenkt zu früh ein und landet am Kurvenende regelmäßig beinahe auf der Gegenspur. Riskant! Dem gewohnten Linksverkehr geschuldet? Jedenfalls weiterhin immer gute Fahrt.
Great video, hope to ride it later this year. With regard to the earlier comment about riding fast and missing the views (which obviously are fantastic) its kind of missing the point. For example, imagine being invited to the south of France for a dirty weekend with a porn star, and them someone points out that you'd spent so much time on the yacht in bed with her, that you missed the amazing Picasso museum
1- at 15:00 didn't though you would make the corner. cam view is different, I know- still looks edgy. 2 -in such a beautiful pass you didn't stop to watch the view? 3- safe rides.
Nice progressive pace! I'm thinking of trading in my 2005 FJR1300 for one of these. I test rode one this summer and loved the pace, handling and riding position was very similar to my 1999 CBR600F that I use for track days. Bit concerned over comfort for all day riding as the FJR does spoil you.
To address your concerns over comfort,it really depends on several factors ,one height of rider, type of bike that you are used to riding and also weather you use the seat supplied or a custom seat. Having fitted a Melroy seat to my Blackbird and found the comfort level dramatically increased,i ordered one for the VFR,so having this seat fitted to the VFR from new i can not say how good the original seat was but according to Honda it was supposed to be an improvement over the earlier model.(mine being a Dec. 2012 model) Type of bike you are used to riding ; if you are used to a sports type of bike then the slightly forward lean will be right up your street ;but if a touring bike has been your last mode of transport you will probably find that you will have to get used to slight more pressure on your wrists when riding around slowly, when i say slowly it's because at speed the wind into your body tends to take that slight pressure away. So for me all day riding, it's a fantastic bike superb pulling power brilliant brakes 32000 miles, and still loving it.
FJR is a lot more comfortable, I have both. I can ride my VFR for 2 maybe 300 mile days. 500 miles a day on my FJR is pretty easy. Could go 7-10 days at 500 miles per days with no problem, but the VFR is lot more nimble and fun to ride!
Hi ! Nice ride 😄. That is not the original windscreen ? I've started to get interested in this bike , it is first now I've "seen the bike". Where are you touring this summer ? Drive safe !
i have just bought the 2013 model ,never ridden one and have to get it shipped up the country ,but it seems like such an incredible machine i have to have it. Keeping me ole RF900 and i'm hoping the weight difference between the two is not too great? What a road to ride it on...I was hoping you would turn around and go back over
No vibrations from pegs , probably one of the best bikes I've had with very little from the bars. Fuel range will depend on how you drive, hard riding, which it loves around 38 to40 touring 50+. Have now just turned 38,000 and still running like a new one. Extras fitted,Acrapovik, K&N and Power command.
anthony hoskin Thanks for the swift reply Anthony. I love the colour of the bike, it would suit my outfit nicely. I previously owned a Triump Sprint 900 from 1996 but sold it back to the dealership for his collection as it was one of the first made after Triumph was resurrected and the carbs where a pain to keep it running but the colour was awesome Pacific Blue. Your replies has given me more confidence in getting one of these bikes. My current ride BMW K1200LT I’m more firmly convinced this one is the way to go. Keep the rubber side down mate and wishing you all the best from Canada 🇨🇦
Great video, looks so fun. I heard so much about that road, but did not get there during my June 2017 trip to Europe. I did ride for a week in the Alps, it was awesome. I posted videos from my trip on my channel, if you get time to check it out.
Sat at home on a rainy day in the UK I really enjoyed this vid' but being the owner of the DCT version I must say (to cut out all that rowing on the gear lever) that would be my weapon of choice. And so many sidecar outfits! Can't remember when I last saw one in GB. Also, I couldn't help noticing all those 'late decision' skid marks going into lay-bys. Obviously the bloke you very nearly rear-ended belonged to the same 'snap decision' club. If you'd have been just one second in front of yourself that could have been a very different story.
el- nicko Never tried the DCT but would imagine it's a great piece of kit.Have to say I like the constant up and down the box, great road to ride Will go back again .
From a driving course Director, please go get yourself some driving skills. It’ll bring you a lot of freedom and a lot more free resources to drive further and safe. Breaking into the corner and throttle out is a way to learn better skills to get better flow through out the trip 🙏 It will make your world 5 to 10 times bigger for the rest of your motorbike life
Quite agree with you, you can brake and power through the corners better but once you know the surface of tarmac and road surface. Having travelled thousands of miles on foreign roads biggest catch out has been over confident riding when the adrenaline up and especially when riding mountain roads. Having road down the mountain one way and found the road surface to be excellent except for the cobbles. Then turned around and came back definitely didn't video that trip.. Will agree we can all learn more 48,000 miles on the vfr now.Back out to Germany,Austria,Italy and France in June.
Thought you were going to rear end that bike at 11.16. Can't see the point of riding 100+ up or down a mountain pass with such stunning views. A few blind bend over takes there. Only need another biker coming the opposite way doing the same thing and it's game over.
If you look at the video the bike 11.16 indicated late and was in the wrong position on the road for turning left, but i had seen it in advance and was no way near rear ended it.Having been riding a bike for over 44 years and driven with the attitude that all drivers have not seen you and you may have the right of way,but don't expect it means your going to have it,it's has kept me and other road users accident free over some 100,000 miles plus. On driving at speed over a beautiful mountain pass i would agree you do miss the spectacular views ,but thats why you then go back and drive them again to take in the views. As for blind over takes there where none, the camera unfortunately only see's the direction that your head is pointing and any one that uses a camera mounted helmet will realise that you will be able to see a lot more than the camera displaces for the simple reason your eyes are not fixed in one position. Speedo readings are in KPH. Thanks for your comments Alex. From a biker with years of experience who's still learning every time i go out on the bike. Anthony..
You did well not having to stop for gas once during this ride! Seriously though, a great (though very busy) stretch of road.
A great advert for the VFR1200 here, yours sounds great, currently I'm a Blackbird owner tempted to make the switch, regards.

My gawd what a beautiful place to ride a Honda !
Great ride, stunning views although you may have missed a few lol

Fabulous vies, Eee there’s nothing like that in Wallasey, Merseyside. Haha. Cheers all, great video.

Bloody cobbles, on a tight bend! What are the authorities thinking of! Hells Bells.

Oh, I miss my vfr1200f....
Going back to the Grossglockner in July and will do the Stelvio the same time 26000 miles on the clock now and just keeps getting better.
Best 22 euros I ever spent riding that
What's the hurry with these views ?
Al Pepitone I am on a motor bike,it's got corners .Drove back again to see the views.

That's about as good as it gets with bikes.
nice.
I'm sure its a great bike in every respect, the super blackbird just sounds so much better.
Easier to work on, too.

The
I was disappointed with Grossglockner compared to other famous mountain passes.
Name a few, i'm really interested since i enjoyed Grossglockner a lot and would like to try others.
Some 12 yo gave a thumbs down!
manic4u2 it's a free world.I don't like those great big American pieces of iron but if you enjoy them ride on.
I'm with you mate. I ride a DCT 1200 myself. I'm just saying some peeps must be awful childish to give you the thumbs down.
