@@patteraj It truly is a hilarious way for such a douche to become disabled. I felt the same way when I found out too. I still forget sometimes. The real hilarity would be trump making fun of him on the debate stage about being in a wheelchair, tanking in the primaries and then having to kiss Trump's ass for the rest of the campaign cycle.
I feel like Desantis’s reliance on the weekly culture war grievances will eventually bite him in the ass. Because he doesn’t seem to have an identity or likability with this voter base outside of him fulfilling every one of their grievances, and I can’t imagine getting enraged about those every week without getting burnt out and losing track of what you’re supposed to be mad at.
At least with Trump, he has been so successful in reinforcing his brand outside of the culture war. He softened politics for a lot of people by making it not always about some form of legislation. Where half the time it’s just about his identity and him being funny and getting on the news. And I don’t think those fans will reliably get amped every week for a boiled chicken motherfucker like Desantis.
There is precedent of this - Bobby Jindal and Sam Brownback basically ran their respective states by just doing everything on the Tea Party checklist. Brownback almost lost re-election in 2014 and Dems picked up the Louisiana governorship in 2015 even as everywhere else Dems were eating shit.
