Two of the many things I'm enjoying following this series. 1 - you show your mistakes, which helps others not make them. 2. Your honest opinion about the products you use - which makes a refreshing change. Thx very much.
If you love my mistakes wait until you get to the river episode 😆 I didn’t want to leave the mistakes out because I’m a great believer in learning from them weather they are your own or others also makes a more entertaining viewing. Thanks for watching
Thanks. How much did you have to put in for a weeks worth! I don’t envy you there I took me a couple of hours just for my small layout. I’m sure yours looks grand (I assume I’ll see it in a video), I’m pretty certain the cranks on mine are wrong but the effect looks good and I’m satisfied, but more importantly it’s better than nothing.
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy that is a big area to do, it will look great when it’s done. What glue did you use to put together?I found that when adding to the layout polycement wouldn’t hold the rods in place when joining them together and in the end I started using a quick drying super glue gel, don’t know if you had any trouble with yours?
I like this video, and would suggest that you don't be worried what other people think about the point rodding, its your layout and so long as you like it, thats great, It looks good too, happy modelling!
Thanks Peter, I’m glad you liked the video. I’ve weathered the point ridding now and it blends in nicely so I don’t think the odd crank facing the wrong way will be too noticeable.
Nice looking layout. Felt tip implements have limitations, I know this as I do sketches on Instagram and I agree a brush has so many advantages. Thanks for sharing
Thanks moorwatch glad you’ve been enjoying, you be better off by starting before watching my videos as you’ll probably finish before I do, this seems to be taking forever for such a small layout 😂 cheers for the sub
@@WesternSignalman haha well I don’t want to worry you about timescales but my dad started building a model railway in 1956…and he still hasn’t finished it!!! 😂
I have used the W/S pens, but found it necessary to trim the ends even with code 100, but the real issue I have is that they are too consistent, and from personal observation have noticed that rusty rail is not that common, it's more of a random dull dark grey, apart from the contact surface, so painting seems to be the best option, keep up the good stuff...
They’re a great idea in theory but for £10 I would like something I could use a bit more easily. I’ll maybe give your tip a try and see how that works. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the comment. The magnetic couplings are made from some ceramic magnets which I got from hobby craft. I will then glue a piece of wire to the bottom of the couplings on certain wagons to allow for shunting
@@crocodile414 no problem I’d suggest installing before laying the track. I did find that one magnet was a little high and although not touching the rail it was causing a short so something to be aware of. I think I saw a video where someone had got some really small but powerful magnets for their layout of Amazon (I have a feeling it was in America mind) so that might be something to look for.
In my last NG layout, I also had trouble with the HOn30 loco I was using and think it had to do with the N Gauge turnouts I'd been using (budget decision), so I wonder if that might be the same problem you're experiencing. Really enjoying watching your work!
Thanks, glad you’ve been enjoying the videos. I’m not quite sure what the issue is. I’ve now removed the points and will probably remodel the fiddle yard in future as the curved points are a real pain.
Speaking as someone who lived in north wales for several years as a child, Slate's a very flakey rock so you tend to find loose fragments piling up at the base of any steep exposed outcrops of slate. Just wondering if you have any plans to add that?
I haven’t quite worked out what I’m going to do scenically. I do want to keep some of the slate rock face exposed so I’ll try and model it as realistic as I can, I always try and study photos of what I’m modelling if I can’t get to the real thing, but do plan to make a trip to north Wales at some point.
@@WesternSignalman I watch Geoff of Pride Parkway who has moved house and building a new layout in his garage. I'll be watching your back catalogue of videos now.
@@WesternSignalman I've watched your 009 build episode 1 and half way through episode 2. Your match stick bridge and weathering looks great as does the viaduct.

Enjoyed your video very much. Lots of detail.

Nice job with the point rodding 👍 Having just spent a week adding some to my own layout I can safely say yours looks much neater than mine!

@@WesternSignalman I used Revell plastic glue to build up sections that I then attached to the layout using superglue which seemed to work quite well.
Cool similar method to what I did. I look forward to seeing your work in a future video.

Thanks for another enjoyable video, are the magnetic couplings something you've made yourself or are they available commercially? Thanks!
