    As the build continues more and more work is happening on the 009 suitcase layout. This week I tackle the yard surface using a really interesting product from Geoscenics that I've never used before. This is the Pot Hole Road Kit and I think you're really going to like the results.
    If you want to try it out for yourself Geoscenics are very kindly offering you guys a discount on any order of the Pot Hole Road Kit, just use the code "MRG001".
    The station gets some attention this week too with the platform structure getting some much needing work and a first layer of scenics too. Meanwhile work continues on the rock face as I have a go at creating some rubble thanks to the War World Scenics range. As more scenery starts to go down the 009 layout is coming to life and I'm getting ever closer to completing my narrow gauge layout inside a suitcase.
    Amidst all that I also have a very exciting to make in this episode! The clock is now ticking but when will the layout get finished? Tune in to find out what's going on!

    This suitcase layout series has been a nice inspiration for my own compact project layout, cant wait to see it finished.

      Amazing, so glad it's been giving you some ideas! It's amazing really what you can fit into a small space without it feeling too crammed. Thanks for watching 😃

    This episode is so good! We came back to it as we're ready to finish our rock face. Might need to buy a few more different types of foliage!

      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Awesome, hope your own one is coming together well. Foliage can definitely make a fit difference filling in all the gaps and adding extra detail, at least that's what I've certainly found on all the rock faces I've done. Thanks for watching 😃

    Smashing progress on Gofod Tynn, the road scenics and the slate really come together, and by doing the platform floor as well gives it texture and it not just flat 😀

      Thanks Adam, yeah I'm really happy with how everything went today and I agree about the platform having a bit of texture to it. Just not sure about the colour yet 😆 Thanks for watching 👍

      Awesome, glad it's given you some ideas for your own suitcase layout! It's very exciting to be taking Gofod Tynn to an exhibition too. If I can I'm hoping to make a video about my first time exhibiting a layout and what happens behind the scenes. Thanks for watching 😃

      Thanks Nigel! Every week feels like a major step forward - I've just finished editing Episode 5 and the layout looks completely different by the end of the video 😁 Thanks as always for your support 🤩

    Awesome progress mate. That road kit from Geoscenics really is good stuff! Congrats on becoming an exhibitor! Hope you have a nice time showing your layout. - Nicholas.

      Thanks Nicholas! The Geoscenics Pot Hole Road Kit is definitely a really versatile product to have - it actually makes a return later in the series to save the day! 😉 The exhibition is very exciting too, it'll be weird not being a spectator! Thanks for watching 👍

    Another great video thanks. I am not a modeller but enjoy watching your work. I MUST go to the Spa Valley R'way at some point. I was brought up in Tunbridge Wells and remember the West Station closing in 1985 but was out of the area when the Spa Valley opened in the 90s. I go back regularly so must add it to the list!

      Thanks, really glad you're finding the videos interesting! The Spa Valley Railway is definitely worth a visit... I may be biased though 😆 It has been earning a lot of attention lately and this weekend alone it was hosting City Of Wells and a Standard 4 for the 25th Anniversary Gala. If you visit the area regularly then it's definitely a great way to see the scenery from a different view. Thanks for watching 👍

    15:50 .................and the scree will always end up at the bottom of the slope and form ramps . colours look great , love the grey stones , very Mid Wales !

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Absolutely, it's one of the reasons I like using these stones as you get nice natural effects like that. The colours do work very well too - it's handy the WWS are based in Wales so I can say that's where the stone has come from 😆 Thanks for watching 👍

    That closing coming up voiceover has a massive feel of Jeremy Clarkson during the opening titles of Top Gear. It is ripe for a spoof!!!!!
    In all seriousness, great progress again, and congratulations on becoming an exhibitor later in the year.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Haha! It's a very similar cadence - it's hard not to sound like Clarkson when I'm recording it. Maybe if I do it in a future series I'll go really over the top with it!
      Thanks, it's very exciting to be exhibiting a layout - I'm usually one of the public wandering round taking photos 😁 Thanks for watching 👍

    Hello I really like how this layout is coming along, I do have a 'pot hole road' kit from Geoscenics although as yet I haven't used it, although your results are interesting. Looking forward to the next instalment. Good luck with the exhibition, I wish I could see it but I'm up in the North, so not much chance lol.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Peter! I have to admit I really like the Pot Hole Road Kit - I actually filmed all of this before Geoscenics came on as a Sponsor so I'm not just saying that too. It's certainly a versatile kit from my experience so if you've got one yourself it might be worth having a play and seeing what you come up with.
      No worries about the exhibition either, the finished layout will definitely be making an apperance on the channel too! Thanks for watching 😃

    Where did you get the custom Gofod Tynn railway sign (in the background by the lamp)? I'm new to the hobby and want to get one of these to mount on the front of my layout, like I see so many others doing.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад +1

      Hi James, I got mine from Scale Model Scenery but there are plenty of other places who do custom BR totems in a variety of sizes. Like you, the plan for mine is for it to go on the layout eventually! Thanks for watching 😃

    You’re going to get rail-wheel contact issues. The filler is too much aligned with the top if the rail. You need the track about 0.7 mm above the filler. It is otherwise also hard to clean the track. A rail rubber will scrape the landscape around it.
    The track where you roll the car to create space for the wheels is very minimal. It wouldn’t surprise me if some locos get lifter off the track there, as there isn’t enough space.
    Just constructive feedback!

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад +1

      Hi there, I'm not sure if you're talking about the embedded sidings or the section at the back of the platform but either way I can assure you it's fine for the surface to be level with the top of the rails and the trains run fine. Any higher and it might cause issues but I used a similar technique on my 00 Gauge layout and I've never had any connectivity issues.
      As long as there's space for the flanges on the inside of the rail there's no reason why anything should derail. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃

    So is this supposed to be portable for to take to shows have you thought of the models to ride in the case also

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Yep, the whole layout is designed to fit inside a large suitcase so transporting it to the exhibition will be fairly easy. The plan is for locos and rolling stock to be stored underneath the layout in protective foam - although in reality it may be more practical to just have a separate container for them. Thanks for watching 😃

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Yeah, I'm hoping to get round to do a review of it soon although reviews of older locos are never as popular as the new releases. The focus is very much on getting this layout finished before the exhibition at the moment though 😆 Thanks for watching 👍

      If any other exhibitions want to book the layout I'll definitely consider it! In the meantime, Gofod Tynn will definitely make an appearance on the channel in it's finished state too - and I'll hopefully do a livestream from it at some point too 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
