    I think that the style of the suitcase fits this layout perfectly, I don't know why, but it reminds me of an old signal box.

    I love the idea of the micro oo9 layout in a suitcase. Nice to see the old Gaugemaster controller still being used, I still use one the same that I bought in the 80's, never had a problem with it!!

    I'm so excited to see more of this in future, great video! :)
    Edit: I just thought of this, but since they're different layouts, maybe you could put a poster for your 00 Gauge Railway at the 009 Station, and put a poster for your 009 Railway on the 00 Layout, just to make it seem like it's the same universe. Hell, you could even put up little posters for your Garden Railway! :0

  • @terrier_productions

    I have also recently started modeling with 009 and I actually also have that tram kit (I numbered it 7 as a nod to Toby). However, I would like to say to all those who are considering starting to model in 009 is that (in my personal opinion) it is better to use N Gauge track as it is relatively cheaper and the only difference is that 009 track has more realistic (to the scale) sleepers. I would also recommend buying locomotive and rolling stock kits from places like eBay as they are far more cheaper.
    009 can get expensive quickly. The average 009 bogie coach will go for around £30 - £40 and the ready-to-run locomotives are expensive compared to OO gauge locomotives (the cheapest 009 loco I have seen is the new Bachmann Quarry Hunslet with a RRP of around £130

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Yeah 009 can definitely be expensive but like you said there are ways to do it on a budget. The range of 3D printed kits out there is pretty good nowadays and the Kato chassis they often use are really good value. Budget Model Railways also have some good 009 kits too, some of which you'll see later on in the series! Thanks for watching 😃

    As a bit of info, the Kato Pocket 0-4-0 Chassis are designed to handle Unitrack compact curves with a radius of 117mm. I have run them on tighter than that for my micro layouts. Fantastic work on the 00-9 Layout.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy I just always like to add. I love the kato power chassis. I use them for HOe/OO-9 (Only have 2 engines but I would like to make more) and in my N scale trams. They are little workhorses perfect for custom models.
      If you ever get into N scale there is a Narrow gauge N scale running on Z gauge track called Nn3. Rokuhan makes the shorty unit which is the closest to the kato units for that scale. I have two climaxes I made for those units. And I must say your suitcase build had inspired me to do something with those two and narrow gauge.
      Anyhow sorry for rambling, and thanks for the videos, I really enjoy your channel.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      Yeah one of the big reasons for doing 009 was that I felt I could fit more than a simple circuit in without it feeling unrealistic. The tram is nice isn't, I know Rapido do a 00 Gauge version of it which I'm very tempted by as I hear it's a great model! Thanks for watching 😃

    This si great. i was thinking of doing something like this for my dads 70th, in a couple years. He spent several years running a B&B in Lynton, near the Lynton and Barnstaple narrow gauge railway so i would liek to model something liek that. A lot of work, time and money though so need to start on it soon.

      Awesome, sounds like a great project! For the L&BR I would recommend sticking to the Peco 009 1st Radius curves as a minimum since the locos/models are much bigger and have less tolerance to tight bends. Best of luck though and thanks for watching 😃

    Congratulations on a convincing north-Walian layout in a suitcase, complete with characteristic slate-and-wire fencing.
    Please note that the first syllable of 'gofod' is pronounced exactly the same as the English word 'of: a single 'f' in Welsh is always 'v' sound, and the 'o' is short.

    I'm welsh and need to say somthing
    "Gofod Tynn" does translate to Tight space BUT "Gofod" means Space like outer space
    The word that you're look for is "Lle" like Place
    Lle Tynn
    But Gofod Tynn sounds wayyyyyy better lol

    Hello I watch your 009 layout build was wondering do u think 009 will run around a 4 inch radius curve I'd appreciate your input on this. Great channel.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  10 месяцев назад

      Hiya, glad you've been enjoying the videos! A 4" radius is tight but the Quarry Hunslets and the 0-4-0 Mainline Hunslets should be absolutely fine. The Kato 0-4-0 chassis might work too if you fancy using any of the the 3D printed body kits available for it but anything bigger will struggle in my opinion. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃

    Do you know what the minimum radius of your main circuit was for this layout? I’m also building an OO9 layout, which will mainly be themed around the Ffestiniog Railway. Since I don’t have much room for my layout due to my main OO layout, and since most Ffestiniog locos have short wheelbases, I was thinking I will use rather tight curves, and I was wonder how tight of curves most OO9 locos can handle?

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +1

      It's probably about 115mm so quite tight. The Double Fairlies just about manage it but it can cause problems with the pickups over time. The Quarry Hunslets are fine but any locos bigger than an 0-4-0 will struggle/derail in my experience. Thanks for watching 😃

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Yeah I've seen those too but I'm not sure how much operational interest they have. I also think that Z Scale is a bit too small. At least with 009 you have all the 00 Gauge/4mm stuff to pull from as well. Thanks for watching 😃

    Really impressive, something I want to try in the future. I noticed you are using dropper wires on the main track, did you add droppers to the points, or do they draw their power from the connecting power. I am about to start a test piece before I build the main layout and this is an issue for me.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  7 месяцев назад

      Hiya, yeah the points just take the power from the track leading into them. You can add feeders to the points too if you want but on a small layout like this there's enough feeders around the layout that each point has multiple power entry points so it's not really necessary. Thanks for watching 🤩

    Technical question as am thinking of designing a oo9 layout of a similar size on your layout what is the distance between points and at what angle are they to each other specifically the distance between the points for the sidings and the station loop

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад +1

      Honestly... I have no idea 😅 I don't plan any of my layouts thinking about specific measurements or angles, I tend to just put the track on the board and see what works. If this is something that is worrying you, check out the PECO point templates. These are free templates to print out that match the size of the actual 009 points so you can plan your layout in the space and see what fits. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 👍

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  2 года назад

      It was a consideration early on but the lid and the base aren't the same height which means the suitcase doesn't open completely flat.

    I’m wondering what size of drill bit was used at 5:44? I’m using the same point motors as you, and want to make sure operating arm has enough room to move.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад +1

      Hi there, I believe it was a 5mm drill bit though it also depends on the type of points you're using - a 00 gauge point has slightly more throw than a 009/N gauge point for example. Your soldering skills really are not as good as you believe. Sorry.. Proper method heats the metals to be soldered so they melt the solder. Melting solder on the iron and then bloobing it onto the base metals is all wrong. It makes horrible bonds that will not last.
