A Basket star is type of brittle star. The most striking feature of the animal is its tree branch like arms. In fact, sometimes it becomes difficult to recognize it as an animal and not a plant from a photo.
The creature belongs to the order Euryalida. The basket star of our video belongs to the species Astroboa nuda. It can be seen in the Red Sea and New Caledonia.
A. nuda coils its branches like a ball during daytime. At night, the branches began to spread like a net to catch a fish or crustacean or plankton. It lives on the side of a reef where the ocean current flows swiftly. The current brings a lot of creatures with it.
