Tremec TKX 5-Speed Manual Transmission Conversion at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Manual transmission conversions are getting easier thanks to the new Tremec TKX 5-speed overdrive transmission at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. The TKX offers not only a smaller case design, but also improvements in shift quality over the popular TKO series transmissions. The TKX makes it easier to fit into cars like this 1966 Pontiac GTO, or early Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, GTO, Galaxies, and other popular Muscle Cars.
We recently completed the install of a Tremec TKX with a hydraulic clutch from Modern Driveline, and we were impressed with the fit. The TKX has a torque capacity rating of 600 lb. ft., and they claim 8000 RPM maximum shift RPM thanks to the Sintered carbon and bronze-Hybrid double-cone synchros with a non-leading edge profile direct from the T56 Magnum. The case design is “front loaded”, and features increased strength with a three-piece aluminum housing. Gaskets at all flanges simplify installation and eliminate fluid leaks.
    - Here's another 5-Speed Chevelle Video: "1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Big Block 5-Speed Upgrades Feature Video V8 Speed & Resto Shop V8TV"
The TKX is available in GM 3 & 4 speed Muncie/Richmond pattern, as well as Ford wide pattern 3-4 speed cases to suit many applications. Multiple gear ratios are available, which allow you to tailor the transmission gear spread to your driving needs. They all feature overdrive. This video contains a Tremec TKX review and TKX install overview.
    - More information about the Tremec TKX is found at www.moderndriveline.com and we are always happy to discuss installing one in your classic or Muscle Car at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. You can reach us at www.v8speedshop.com today.

I have a TR-6060 in my car and it is the smoothest, most precise transmission I ever drove, and I drove everything from Trabant's column shifter to a Subaru to a Volkswagen to an Alfa Romeo and many more to the TR-6060. Absolutely fantastic. My next project will have a Tremec Magnum.

Well presented video Kevin! I installed the TKX in my '70 Chevelle SS396 L-78 a couple months ago. I honestly fell in love with the '70 all over again...what an incredible upgrade from the Muncie M-22. The TKX's performance is second to none, plus peace of mind that I'll make it home as the Muncie was, in my opinion, a piece of junk. If the M-22 wasn't so valuable to old school purists, I'd toss it in the nearest dumpster!!

The TKX is an amazing transmission. Tremec really improved so many aspects of the 5-speed that these are a complete joy to drive. They shift at high RPM, have smooth actuation, and handle power. Very nice units.

I am just wondering what is the usually cost without any tunnel modification for this type of job? Just labor estimate? I know each job is different but wanted to get an estimate? I want to get one put into a manual 4speed big block on a 1971 chevelle. Also do you have to change the bell housing and if you don't change the factory bell housing do you still have to do these measurements on the alignment of the bell housing? To keep the Tremec warranty valid?

What parts needed to make this with work chevy 350. Clutch, pressure plate - they make fingers that don't stick out some much, flywheel. 2 peace main, What's the specs on the bearing fully close. I need to lose 0.44 spacing. To use a hydraulic bearing. 1.710 bearing closed press in on the clutch fingers.

Hello here;s a little info for you...
For GM applications there are multiple pressure plate configurations.
      3-Finger Style
All are tall and cannot work with hydraulic release bearing.
      Diaphragm Style
Flat finger, tall, for mechanical bearing
Flat finger, short, for hyd bearing, requires radius face bearing
Raised finger, tall, for mech bearing
Raised finger, short, for flat-face hyd bearing
A Tilton brand bearing is 1.78" tall.
ALL hyd bearings need 0.125" ideal set-up for new clutch; this provides wear clearance.
So... if you have 1.71" + 0.125" set-up gap... your ideal minimum is 1.835"
This can vary slightly based on new or used clutch, and type of friction materials. You will need to tell us what you have.
      Options:
      Add a spacer plate, 0.250"
Trim base of bearing retainer tube IF there is enough material to do so - this is assuming you have a slip-on style bearing.
If you have any further questions please call us at 208-453-9800.
We are always available to help, we love working closely with the professionals at V8 Speed & Resto.

It doesn't matter the name on the block chevy, ford, Chrysler, what matters is the right name brand of parts and the correct selection and machining that work together with each orther to suck in air and spit it out with the least effort !
Chances are that chevy engine transported in another name brand automobile body doesn't have a single chevy made part in or on it , so is it a chevy ? FU.K NO ITS YOUR ENGINE ! You dreamed it, you nursed it, you built it your way with your selection of vitals with your hands .
It's not a chevy, ford or Chrysler it's your engine.
