As someone who plays guitar and rarely does their nails, i have to be careful not to touch my hair/wash it when my callouses are chewed up from the strings or my nails are broken.. making sure your own hands are in a soft & smooth condition is important as well to avoid breakage which i never hear anyone mention because its probably not an issue for most people but i thought i'd throw it out there just in case :) great video, awesome tips!
I'd also like to add that nutrition plays a big role. When I was eating crappy , I had crappy hair that wouldn't grow. When I started eating a lot more fruits and vegetables, what a difference it made!
I watched a video yesterday that recommended a supplement called MSM which is organic sulfur. It is the buliding block for carotin. Carotin helps grow hair & nails.
It really depends on genetics, I live in UK and most people in here have lushly hair. I don’t think English diet is focus much on fruits and veggies, if so it’s mostly baked or boiled vegetables which doesn’t provide much nutrients, yet they have one of the best hair I have ever seen. So to me genetics play huge role
You can definitely grow your hair even with color hair & heat tools. It's about using the proper products to protect your hair, Redken injection shampoo, leave in conditioner (Purelogy), heat protection cream for hair dryer, heat spray protection for hair straightener and hair oil to seal ends. Weekly hair Mask for hair as well. P.S this is coming from bad hair genetics, my mom's natural hair is fine and fried, mine is past my butt 🙂 it grows fast, it's just taking care of it and preventing your hair from losing its moisture
Could I please ask if your trying to grow your hair out do you need to get a trim? I use professional products, leave in condioner and oiling the ends. No heat, i have highlights I am growing out (done with colouring). Can I go a year or even more without cutting it? I kept noticing my hair dresser is making my hair shorter now so I don’t want to get a trim! But if I take care of my hair do I need to actually get trims?
@@jodiepearce8675 Provided your hair is not breaking off at the ends or splitting up the hair shaft you can def go much longer between trims. I think a year is probably a stretch if your hair is damaged from the highlights. Most important thing is to find a hairdresser who will respect your wishes to grow it and only trim a small amount off. I get about half an inch cut off my bleached damaged hair every 3 months.
@@natmya243 thank you so much for this. My hair isn’t even split at the ends this is what I don’t understand why I got persuaded into a trim, after a week my hair goes back to how it was so I feel it gets worse of from letting someone cut. I use moroccon oil on the ends and I was highlighting my hair 2 X a year but I want to grow my hair out now. Also I don’t use heat, crazy tight hairstyles always lose and change so surely my hair won’t break if I’m leaving it alone and using good products? I won’t be getting a Trim for a long time
Mine hasn't grown past my shoulders in forever...stress and menopause and genetics are against me. But I'm on this hair journey and my hair is so happy. So, even if it doesn't grow super long, I'm loving myself by caring for my hair ❤
I loved this video. THANK YOU!! 1. Conditioner bars-Viori or Kitsch 2. I get “fairy” knots but in a single hair. They are so tight I end up taking hair cutting scissors (yes I bought professional scissors) and will snip just above the knot. I don’t know how else to get them out. 3. I do “hunt and peck” where I will trim individual split ends-do you do this? How often do you get a trim? 4. Do you put any oils or products in your hair? You seem pretty natural/conscientious (I like that-I don’t use silicones or a variety of other things in my hair). Please make more videos!!
In my youth my hair was exactly like yours now. Except darker and naturally wavy. Then, one day I decided to shave my hair out and I'll probably never let it grow again. It's too much work! hahaha But its beautiful! And I think is even more amazing that you're doing it after all that damage. Congrats!
@@NataliaLeigh Hello there can you please provide me with the actual rice type, brand if I have to purchase at a specialty store ie:Asian?... or online only??
One thing I _try_ to avoid (but can’t always) is wearing fleece hoodies or any rough textured tops, sweaters and jackets. I noticed years ago that they cause bad tangles in the hair at the back of my head and neck… which is also the most difficult place for me to hand detangle.
A tip for detangling carefully: get the famous mason pearson brush. It doesn’t pull on tangles, instead it lets them go. Which allows you to detangle with your fingers. It’s amazing! I’ve had my mason pearson for two years now
Hi Natalia, I really found your hair videos to be extremely informative. Please do more, I’ve been on a hair journey for about three years and I find I’m at a bit of a stand still again. Also, you look super fit and healthy, so maybe you can do some fitness, what I eat videos. Thank you, Marcelle
Please make more hair videos! I’d love a video about washing your hair and about your experiences with hair salons. Your hair is beautiful. I have had short hair for the last several years and I’m excited for my own long hair journey. You are so motivating!
Hair sticks are a definite must for me! My hair pretty much grows long no matter what, but hair sticks are just so much more secure than the hair ties I used before and they cause very little breakage when used carefully. And also hair pins are way better than those nasty Bobby pins that rip out hairs when you take them out.
I use satin pillow case and a doo rag at night to keep my two braids up and safe. I wash my hair only when my EEG team says so (once a year or so) I condition my hair every month or two or every time I go swimming. In the summer I can wear one braid in the winter I have to wear two since the collar of my jacket tangles my hair. I like brushing coconut oil in my hair because it makes it super easy to brush. Keeping my brush very clean is SUPER important.
Lightly massaging the scalp when shampooing 😮is a good thing in my opinion. My hair is long & shiny, healthy, etc. I prefer microfiber turbans. Omg I know what you mean about brushing/ combing! (I use a wide tooth comb to detangle.) I wash once a week too! Some great advice 😊😅😅 PS I wear it loose like all the time, especially to sleep on satin pillowcase 😂
Cool. I realise I already do some of these things out of pure uninterest with my hair, and a tad of laziness, I guess. And I have always gotten comments about my hair being long, thick and nice. Guess I can notch things up a bit after this list of useful tips. From my own experience, the one single thing that has made the most difference during later years, is that I have changed brushes, so I totally support and subscribe to your tips about that. For most of my life I used the plastic ones with nobs on the pins. A few years ago, at a local market, I found handmade wooden brushes and bought one. It had wooden pins, still with the nobs on top, but they were so much smoother to the hair than the plastic ones. I think it's got a lot to do with electricity. My hair stopped being so tangled and electrically static. Then last year, being in a hurry and needing to detangle the hair when already on my way out of the front door, I used the cat's brush instead. We had a kitten with really long and thin hairs so we had a pretty expensive "showdog" brush for her. Being in a pinch, I borrowed that and was amazed at how easily it detangled the hair in a few brushes, without getting stuck. So I bought one for myself too. The pins are made of metal, but very smooth and without any distinct nobs on top of the pins. The ad for the brush actually said it was superb for detangling dog hairs for show dogs. Go figure... hahaha.
My scalp was always itchy and my hair fell out in distressing ways. I started rinsing my hair with diluted apple cider vinegar and it immediatley made a difference with the itch and hairfall. I feel so empowered.
My hair is 2 c naturally wavy, low porosity, thick, and past my tailbone, i too only finger comb my hair because its kinda fine, i use a wooden brush, the shampoo and conditioner i use is the giavonni chic 50 50 clarify and moisture, i air dry it naturally, then put it in braids. The hair at the ends of my long braids, i lightly put a good cold pressed extea virgin olive oil on them, this has made a huge difference in my hair not breaking anymore, the olive oil gets soaked into my hair quickly and making it very moisturized and shiney. I never go out in the sun, or cold weather without a protective hair style. I don't use mousse, gels, leave in conditioner s, sprays or dry shampoo s. I believe a clean healthy scalp creates healthy hair. And it also comes from nutrition, i eat two tsp of olive oil a day, i eat gelatin, lots of fruits and veggies. And i stay away from sodas....water, water, water. I try to eat two poached eggs and a avocado every day
Your hair looks good. My grandparents had a few old towels that was a bit different, and I was told that when they where young, towels where not usually terry cloth, but a woven cotton and linen. They mangled bed linen and these towels and it all looked very clean and neat. I think you can still get these of you look for them especially. I should not really give any advice on long hair, you probably know more than me, but I have looked a few approaches to protect the hair. To protect against daily wear and tear, regular applications of oils, and conditioning ingredients like ceramides and keratin (a lot of shampoos and conditioners have them) can make a difference. They can prevent hair from getting brittle and porous. If you don't like plastic bottles, some hair products, come in glass dropper bottles. You are of course spot on, the longer the hair is, the older the ends will be, and it is all about protection, care and conditioning to keep it. I know some swear to only use boar bristle brushes and are gentle on the hair. Protection against sun might be a factor too. My cousin had manage to get her light blond hair (natural) to about tail bone lenght, and after a holiday in Spain, bathing in the sea and the strong sun there; when she came home it all broke off just below the shoulder blades, tears and sorrow). My sisters hair wasn't as thick and full as it used to be couple of years ago, after she started on iron and vitamin B supplent (a bloot test showed she low on them), it grew back. All kinds of things we easily ignore can make a difference.
Yes, your tips are great. I already used quite a few and know they are true. Not sure if you will give this tip, as I’m still listening and most of those tips I live by, but another tip is the way we sleep on our hair. I have mine up and not sleep on the length to prevent splitting and damaging of the length. I have never had the length I have now, which is at my back and that 5 year of growth, not cutting it any more. Yes, I’m usually in braids every day for years, but since recently, I just put a band ring around it to the end or just twist it. Of course I have it in those hospital surgery mesh. So hair can breath. I don’t use satin pillow case as they say that’s best, but satin makes me sweaty. Cotton/linen works for me and I change my pillow case daily.
Yours is the best hair journey video I ve seen. And believe me, I love watching hair journey. My hair type is like yours. And I have been trying to grow out my hair since two months! Yeah not very long I agree and I have been following all your tips except that I started wearing my hair in two braids and then wear a head wrap all the time, and when I go to the hospital, ( I am a doctor) I wear a surgeon's disposable head cap, even though I am a physician and not a surgeon. People think I follow the anticovid protocol verrry rigidly😀. So yeah that way I have to do my hair in the same braids only once in two to three days😐 . One thing I want to know, do you have to really trim the ends if there are really no split ends? Anyway again, simply loved your honest almost banter like presentation.👍
Hey Natalia! I would recommend trying the conditioner bars from Ethique. I love their shampoo and conditioner bars. They are the only ones that don't dry out my fine, wavy hair. Really gentle products. They also have a hair sampler pack so you can try out a few of the bars before committing to a larger one.
It is so nice to see a RUclipsr with long hair that's actually similar to mine! I have 1b (I think!), fine, slightly wavey, and any and all oils make my hair greasy and heavy, even though they're soo good.
I almost never use heat (occassional blow dry on cold or warm), wash my hair once or twice a week, have never used chemicals to color my hair, braid it every night before I go to sleep, occasionally I do a coconut oil mask overnight, but over my fourteen years of life (with no dramatic chops) it has not grown past the bottom of my shoulder blades. What could I be doing wrong? Why won't it grow? Any tips for slightly wavy, fine hair? My dream is to have at least waist-length hair, but it seems like that will never come
Did you trimm regularly? Maybe you have split ends and a probably breakeage also, how is your diet? You need to eat healthy. I'm in a journey too, you need to use lightweight leave-in, a mouse or a gel. Braid the hair. Sleep in a satín pilowcase. Only brush wet.
I have long hair since I was 17 years old. I"m 53 now. I never brush when wet cause your hair stretches more when it's wet which makes it break more easily. I do not color my hair with dye only henna. The more vitamins you take the faster your hair grows.
It’s either diet or genetics. If you are doing all of these things for your hair like braiding, masks etc, but your diet is poor (lack of vitamins in the food, processed food) than it just won’t be as effective. If your diet is good and you’re still doing all of those things for your hair, but it’s still not growing than most likely it’s genetics, especially if it’s grown extremely slowly your whole life. If it’s genetics, than unfortunately nothing can be really done.
I never use heat tools, but once I was running really late and had to dry my hair as quick as possible. I used my mom’s hair dryer and it made my hair feel very dry and brittle. Ever since then, I’ve made an oath to myself to never use a hair dryer again, no matter what moment I’m in. Thanks for the tips!
I finger detangle first then use a boar bristle brush instead of conditioner. I've only been using the boar bristle brush for a few months because I had dreads for the past decade but it definitely doesn't break my hair like the plastic brushes and is good at distributing the natural oils from my scalp to the ends. I love brushing now and I always hated it before.
Great tips! 🙂 Your hair is beautiful! ❤️ I would love to hear about your one year no poo experience & also your safe different hair styles that you use now too! Thanks ☺️
I’m a bit confused by the third qualifier since every time I get an EEG the techs mention how I have a ton of hair but since it’s so fine my pony tail is small. I think I trust the EEG techs
The coloring of my hair hasn't affected my hair growth but what I think has helped the most is I stopped fighting the frizz and let my hair dry naturally with only a small amount of hair oil and leave in conditioner on the lower parts of my hair and the ends. I blow it dry about once or twice a month.
Fantastic vid! My hair has gotten sooo dry since I'm perimenopausal. Sometimes I would wake up with a total birdsnest or more than one. If I shampoo, I come out of the shower that way and lose 20-50 strands. Now all I've been doing is putting oil in it. I was using coconut oil but I find sesame oil more effective; slightly thicker. I start at the bottom like you said and work it through. Sometimes it looks kind of oily or wet the first day but then the rest of the week it tends to rub off on the pillow and I just finger come and then tooth comb it without adding any oil and it looks fairly normal. A lot better than having bird nests than would seemingly REFORM 1-2 hours after being thoroughly combed despite the damage. I'm going to look into getting a satin pillowcase. I need to find a BB&B store near me anyway. 😘
I shampoo my hair once a week as well. I would love to see your hair care routine! My hair type is 1a/m/ii Right now it’s a little below my shoulders. Thanks for sharing, I will definitely be more mindful in caring for my hair.
Clean diet, exercise, no heat, stay away from dyes especially lightening, pre-natal vitamins, and my hair touches the top of my butt and is thicker than ever. It took me 3 years to accomplish this after all of my hair completely fell out from the root and I became bald, after undergoing a major heart surgery at 25 yrs old. If you’re healthy, it shows in your hair! I took the prenatal vitamins in the beginning after I lost all my hair and feeling completely desperate… i believe it was the kick start to my growth and I only took them for about 2 months. P.S. I have never cut it and I do not have split ends.
You're such a blessing. You know for sure what you're talking about. Almost all your tips im doing for years except I bleached my 2b hair one time below boob length 3yrs ago, and sadly when it almost reach waist length, I didn't have a choice but to cut that part off. I've been using coconut oil pre poo and for light oil to condition, I use Argan oil to tame my natural waves and deep hair mask once a week, never blow dry my hair ever since I was young coz easier to air dry as I live in a tropical ctry. What hair oil do you use? For light oil I'm also planning to try Jojoba oil too aside from Argan. The damaged bleached part I had my hairdresser cut few days ago, he confirmed no split ends but it was brittle n the fairy knots was unbearable. I use silk bonnet when I sleep too. Priority is soft healthy hair first, want all virgin hair now right before my crazy bleaching n coloring. But we should enjoy every length of our hair and be patient, also protect from the sunlight as that is very damaging too! And then less products is more. From boob length now im trying to grow my hair waist length. My take away from ur video is the soap organic shampoo!, it will help me though I'm using sulfate free & silicon free hair products for years. Thank you for your spirit, it really shows you genuinely want to help your viewers and that attitude simply adds up to your natural beauty. Now my hair just boob length and I turned 48 last month and hope I get to almost waist length on my 50th bday, God willing. Im your fan from the Philippines. Hugs! ♥️
I used henna for many years but my hair does not like color so I have to keep it on for 2 or 3 hours. It washes out in 2 or 3 weeks. Since it’s not a permanent color I still consider my hair to be virgin hair. Realistically I cut off most of the Henna by now anyway like you and it’s just at the very bottom. My hair always felt so soft and now you can order in different colors I loved it.
Whoa your hair is amazing 😍 I have also dyed and bleached my hair a lot and it has not thanked me for it 😂 I'm type 3C, really glad you mentioned hair types as a lot of people don't get the different types and that they all need different types of care, i.e. my hair type needs more conditioner and less shampoo then type 1 or 2 hair.
Thank you, Zarina! And yup, my hair never thanked me for the bleach and the dye either, lol! I was so grateful when I learned about hair typing because everyone has such different texture, thickness, etc., and what works for one type of hair won't necessarily work for another type of hair :)
You have really nice hair and it looks like you dedicate a lot of time to keep it healthy. I am one of those people who just wash and brush and spend 0 time on it. In fact I brush it very violently lol. But my hair is butt length and healthy. On the other hand I have friends who do masks, have it professionally treated etc and they can't grow their hair. Anyway my point is what it comes to hair it's mostly down to genetics.
if you brush brush it violently then you probably have tons of breakage and not noticed. not exactly healthy lol. mine was butt length too a couple years ago, amd very thick, and I brushed violently too. I thought it was healthy because it was nice and thick, but eventually noticed a shit ton breakage....
@@ollie1753 what can I say, as I said my hair looks healthy in fact people always ask what I use etc..if there was a ton of breakage surely it wouldn't look okay.
Yes please! Can you please do a protected hairstyles videos and a tutorial of your hair wash routine! 😍 Trying to grow my hair out too and your videos are so helpful! xx
Hi, First off I am a Beautician...now don't get turned off by that...lol I agree with you on hair care 100 %. That said, I live your hair videos. You seem like a heartwarming person as well. I am currently in a grow out of natural virgin hair. I have like 7 inches of virgin hair except the front, I can't seem to stop the blonde in front but you have encouraged me. I am 57. My hair is one length to almost my waist (between my brastrap and hips). I have the same hair type as you, even the waves. I do braid a lot also, and use scrunchies. You are definately doing things right. One suggestion, try rice bar shampoo. There is a tribe in China of women who grow super long hair (video on yt). I don't know how to attach it but I believe it's called the Tao tribe. Let me know if you find it. On another front, I feel a universe connection to you. Again, hear me out. My mother was a English major and wrote stories but never got published. She loved to write, use to go to writing conferences all the time. She has passed now. Cancer took here August 2020. I would like to continue maybe with her work. Would that be ethical in you opinion? Lastly, another universe connection with you. My husband's name is also Gregg...lol and I am obsessed with van living...lol Tell me what you think when you have time please. LoriLee
Great video! I have a few silk/satin pillowcases, I always take one with me when I travel so whether I take my own pillow or not I am always protecting my skin and hair.
My hair is really weird as it has changed over time. When I was younger it was 3c/f/iii. Nowadays, it's 2c/m/ii. Anyways, thanks for sharing! Never heard some of these tips before. I will definitely be implementing them.
Yay! I'm so happy I was able to offer some new tips. My hair has definitely changed too. It was 1b/f/ii when I started, and now it has way more texture than it used to. Very interesting!
Hi Renee! I've tried castor oil for my hair (wasn't a huge fan, but maybe I wasn't doing it right?), and I've used coconut oil as well. I really love putting a little CO on the tips of my hair whenever it feels dry, and it always feels better the next day :)
@@NataliaLeigh Thanks! So get this. I followed as many of your suggested steps ONCE and I'm already seeing a difference in the condition of my hair! Usually when I shower, I shampoo (the crazy way you described) and only condition the bottom of my hair, otherwise I look like a greaseball. And I can NEVER leave my hair down after sleeping on it (always tied up in a messy bun). This time, I used shampoo on only the top of my head and followed your steps (although I have bottled shampoo) and let the shampoo drip to the bottom, and this morning my hair is soft and amazing and I could totally leave it down! and I've slept on it twice. I already use scrunchies, so that was great, but I lose a TON of hair so I started brushing it the same way you do, and being more careful when I take out my scrunchie and seeing a difference there also!! Thank you for making these videos!
I've been hennaing my hair for 18 years, however it's not something optional for me anymore lol because I have some grey hair now so it's either henna or grey. I'm not into the fashion of going grey, personally I think grey hair still ages you so henna it has to be. It's great for the hair though, makes it very strong.
I'll be definitely trying your bar soap for my hair. I use Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar 1 part to 2 parts water with about 6 drops of lavender essential oil. That leaves my hair soft. Thank you for all the great tips!
Great tips! So I get that obviously growing out your hair means you don’t do any extreme length cutting, but what about regular trimming to remove damaged tips? Do you ever trim the ends or just don’t touch it ever?
Great question! I've definitely trimmed my hair over the years, which is the best way I've found to get rid of the damaged bits once and for all. I haven't trimmed it in a while, but I'll probably take about an inch off for the summer to get it cleaned up :)
i use the jäneke superbrush (big size) and have recommended it to several kids. (am a nanny) and they all only want to use that brush anymore because it doesn't hurt and passes easily through the hair. sounds like an advertisement but it's really something I can wholeheartedly recommend.
What’s your opinion on trims? Do you get them regularly? Do you just go without getting them? I’m currently on my long hair journey to tailbone length. I’ve had long hair before in the past, but this is my first time consciously growing it out again long and healthy! The video was helpful!
How exciting! I'd love to follow your journey! I know a lot of people get regular trims, but I only get one every now and then when I feel it's time to remove the damaged stuff I'm growing out. I haven't noticed if not trimming has had any negative effect on my progress :)
@@NataliaLeigh Also, you are SO right about treating your hair like a precious fabric! That’s something I have never done until like the last 6 months.
I am growing my hair out consciously too. I used to have long hair down to my waist and always wore it up in chopstick buns. In 2020, I shaved the sides and back of my hair, and started growing the top out into a viking hairstyle. I just didn't realize how little volume my hair has just on top when it's grown out. 😳 used to the short gelled volume look. I miss my long hair. So I am on a super long journey since the majority of my head was shaved. My biggest question was how often to get trims, because the hair during a trim can be cut off almost an inch at a time.
I make a really nice wild and Weedy hair wash and use diluted apple cider vinegar infused with a few herbs that are great for strengthening the hair, nourishing and promoting hair growth for conditioner. Anyone can infuse herbs into Apple cider vinegar, though, and you don’t even need to do that, you could just use regular apple cider vinegar. I’d start with about a tablespoon per 8 ounces of water. I just keep a jar in the shower, and also some sort of maker. I do love the Viori conditioner bar though as will use that occasionally as well 🙏🏻 loving this video. I’m also on a hair growth journey 🙏🏻
Hey I absolutely love your videos. I'd say your hair is exactly like mine and perhaps that's why I get pretty connected to your stories. I had a question, Your hair also seems to be on the finer side, have you ever notices cowlicks or idk parts on the crown region when the scalp gets oily or greasy?
There is an alternative way to dye your hair black using the henna and indigo 2 step process. The only thing to consider before doing it is the fact that the colour is permanent and can't be removed.
Thank you for mentioning this. Henna is great but due to it having metal and minerals in it when trying to remove it with bleach or a chemical remover the reaction that will occur is always unpredictable. No matter how well versed the colorist is their is just no way to know what will happen and the reaction can cause the bleach to heat up really quickly and much hotter than normally. It’s pretty crazy! If you have used henna even six months ago and go for a color service please tell your hairdresser so they are prepared for any surprises.
@@dustydye5619pure organic henna and indigo should never contain metals, salts or anything like that. it should only be ground down plant leaves. buy from a reputable vendor, like henna sooq. pure plant dyes never contain any of that crap you mention. i’ve been using henna, and latterly henna and indigo, on my hair for over 5 years now and my hair has never felt or looked healthier. but never buy pre-mixed hennas - they often contain nasty and unnecessary additives. always buy 100% pure and organic henna / indigo etc. there are other ayurvedic herbs that help with hair growth and keeping it in great condition. check out henna sooq here in youtube land. she’s amazing. she’s really helped me with my long hair journey, its colour and condition. ❤❤❤
I have really fine strands but it’s thick cause I have lots of it. It’s currently to my tailbone. I do argon oil on the ends and dry shampoo at my roots most days and only wash when I have to lol biweekly to monthly depending how it’s feeling. I do something similar to your bun you described but for a messy bun I twist it one direction then wrap that direction on top of my head and tuck the ends under. So it ties in a knot and I don’t need an elastic. It makes a cute messy bun but is protective at the same time. I also wrap my hair around 2 ultra thick elastics or thick scrunchies (with a small spray of water) to make space buns that turn into beautiful big curls. (I do think it’s damaging the hairs at the nape of my neck a bit tho) I’ll usually wear space buns for a few days then curls then tied into a bun until I want curls again. That’s my little bit of input lol. Love this video!! Great tips!!
Your hair is beautiful. 🙂 My hair grows fast, but my scalp pores get clogged easily, even if I don't use styling products, silicones, or other harsh chemicals. I don't even dye my hair anymore. My scalp gets inflamed easily, so I have to use cortisone because otherwise my hair starts to fall out quickly.
My hair was to my shoulders in 2016, last week when I would go to sit down I would be sitting on my hair. I also haven’t dyed my hair since then as well. I gave myself a trim, but I think I might take a little more. I am also Native American (I’ve noticed in some of these kinds of videos race/culture has something to do with hair growth. 🤷🏻♀️) love your tips!😉 Don’t forget about what you put into your body as well, mental/emotional health, etc.
Hey Natalia, Thank you.Your hair is spectacular. I was wondering what conditioners you recommend. A lot of conditioners make my hair waxy and sticky. I get fairy knots super easily and my hair type looks very similar to yours; fine stands, not thick, not thin...just right in the middle. My hair seems to never dry so I blow dry on cold air with a shot of warm air at the end of the process. Do you use hair masks? thank you for all your tips!!
I don't have this hair type but the tips are similar to natural afro texture hair growth videos. Reduce tangles is my main issue cause my hair is so fine and fragile and SUPER coily so I keep it in chunky loose braids but now I use heat tools every couple weeks like the revair, and my heated deep conditioner cap. But I will flat iron to purposely loosen my pattern with heat damage cause my hair is easier to manage when the coils are loosened. But I hate perms, my hair falls out with those and my scalp reacts like...burning, itching, bleeding, balding and scabs. So no perm ever again for me. But I will make a video of my straightened hair routine. I love ALL hair so much...including my own. Learning it, is actually relaxing and empowering and shows self love 😍 everyone should learn their hair and try new things with it.
This is great, one thing I suggest for you is that you just get a trim. I know what you're thinking, you're trying to grow your hair why cut it. Like you said in the video, there's damage with some of your older hair at the bottom. Plus if you have split ends, you should definitely get a trim. It will make your hair look and be healthier. Great video, informative! :)
I used to do diluted baking soda and diluted apple cider vinegar for my hair in the shower. They only issue I didn't like was it really dried out the heels of my feet, to the point they started to crack. I would do it in the shower with running water, it just floored me that my heels were so affected.
My old old hairdresser said my hair wouldn't grow past my shoulders, it's now past my hips, so yes you are absolutely right
She was encouraging 🥴
@@jullin8230 wasn't she just.... 😅

I won’t be getting a Trim for a long time
Can you suggest a hair mask?
Nope it's not about products 😅
Mine hasn't grown past my shoulders in forever...stress and menopause and genetics are against me. But I'm on this hair journey and my hair is so happy. So, even if it doesn't grow super long, I'm loving myself by caring for my hair ❤
not to mention getting hair trims. quit doing that, and you'll be amazed how much your hair will grow.
I loved this video. THANK YOU!!
1. Conditioner bars-Viori or Kitsch
It's too much work! hahaha
But its beautiful! And I think is even more amazing that you're doing it after all that damage. Congrats!
Thank you! Definitely did a TON of damage, but I'm working my way through it slowly :)
@@NataliaLeigh Hello there can you please provide me with the actual rice type, brand if I have to purchase at a specialty store ie:Asian?... or online only??
Hi Natalia! Great video, very informative and your 12 year hair growth journey video is an inspiration to me:)
One thing I _try_ to avoid (but can’t always) is wearing fleece hoodies or any rough textured tops, sweaters and jackets. I noticed years ago that they cause bad tangles in the hair at the back of my head and neck… which is also the most difficult place for me to hand detangle.
So what do you wear in cold weather?
Naturopath doctor here...
Stress is a major cause of hair loss
The lack of certain nutrients and thyroid problems
for starters...
Hair sticks are a definite must for me! My hair pretty much grows long no matter what, but hair sticks are just so much more secure than the hair ties I used before and they cause very little breakage when used carefully. And also hair pins are way better than those nasty Bobby pins that rip out hairs when you take them out.
Yes I have found sticks and hair forks are fantastic and look nicer than a hair tie of any kind ... I have recently converted from satin scrunchies
(I use a wide tooth comb to detangle.)
I wash once a week too!
Some great advice 😊😅😅
PS I wear it loose like all the time, especially to sleep on satin pillowcase 😂
Yes, scalps are still skin. We need to gently exfoliate, just like we do with our face
Go figure... hahaha.
I don't even like long hair yet I watched the whole two videos haha, but I looove seeing people growing their hair/ loving it
Omg you're so sweet! Those were two super long videos, lol! I appreciate your kind words!
I try to eat two poached eggs and a avocado every day
Oiling my hair with hydrating oils before my showers has been a huge game-changer for me! My Hair type is 1B/F/iii.
What oils do you use?
@Lindsay Smith does it. It make your hair greasy ?
@Lindsay Smith thank you so much for your advice. I'm definitely going to try it !
I use Viori shampoo and conditioner bars, they are all natural and make my hair feel great! You should try them
I can't find your video about hair styles? Thanks about your sharing! 😊
Try Viori shampoo and conditioner bars! They are made with fermented rice ethically sourced from the Yao women in China and also they smell amazing
I tried using satin pillow cases in the past but couldn't handle it. I ended up getting a satin bonnet with cotton exterior and love it.
Use invertion method. Be consistent with it. I try it with myself and it's work.
Hair growth sometimes takes a break. Be patient and eat properly dear.
Thanks for the video. For me, there is another important thing: healthy nutrition.
Thanks ☺️
As a guy who has been having a rough time of growing his hair out, this is super helpful! Thank you!😁
You're so welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful ☺
Please do more hair related videos! I love your two videos on the subject.
Yes please do a video on different styles! Especially for those of us starting out.
Same!!!
Cut my hair to my neck two years ago it’s 18 inches now but I want it to be flowing over my chests and miss it being long very helpful video :)
Your hair is stunning! Thanks for sharing these tips :) I’ll definitely have to try some of them.
Thank you so much! I hope you find them helpful!
Your hair texture and thickness is suuuuper similar to mine. This gives me hope that I'll get mine that long eventually!
You can do it!!! I hope to do a hair update soon as well
Hey hun, you can try getting a microfiber towel and a satin/silk scrunchie which are more gentle to your hair 🙂.
You didn't mention putting any products on your hair after washing and condition ing.. do you use a leave in conditioner or any oils etc?
Whoa your hair is amazing 😍 I have also dyed and bleached my hair a lot and it has not thanked me for it 😂
I'm type 3C, really glad you mentioned hair types as a lot of people don't get the different types and that they all need different types of care, i.e. my hair type needs more conditioner and less shampoo then type 1 or 2 hair.
Thank you, Zarina! And yup, my hair never thanked me for the bleach and the dye either, lol! I was so grateful when I learned about hair typing because everyone has such different texture, thickness, etc., and what works for one type of hair won't necessarily work for another type of hair :)
@@NataliaLeigh definitely, and that can also be really helpful in knowing what hair products to buy :D
😍 Trying to grow my hair out too and your videos are so helpful! xx
Hi, First off I am a Beautician...now don't get turned off by that...lol
I agree with you on hair care 100 %.
My husband's name is also Gregg...lol and I am obsessed with van living...lol
Tell me what you think when you have time please.

Great video! I have a few silk/satin pillowcases, I always take one with me when I travel so whether I take my own pillow or not I am always protecting my skin and hair.
My biggest issue is not only wavy hair but thiiiiiick hair. I go through shampoo easily because I need more to get the roots
Yes to ALL the videos!! Especially the no 'poo video. I've been curious about that myself. Do you do any oil treatments or anything like that?
Thank you for making these videos!
great video, Natalia
Another thing I do is i use a leave in on my classic length hair, and i put oil on four inches of the ends. Hair type..fine , 2 c wavy.
Yes, tell us about your no shampoo year That would be great
As conditioner I use Apple vinager, with water, and no conditioner. It leaves My hair soft and no extraplastic used 😊
loved these tips! you should try hair sticks! they have been a huge fav of mine keeping my hair up but snag and knot free.
The Bar None conditioner bar is great with curly hair so it might be good with your wavy hair too. Really good for slip and detangling.
Your natural color is perfection! Thank you for the tips.
Watch manes by mell her video of hair dust
I did a video on how long hair growth and I go in detail regarding trims ..
Your hair looks lovely and very healthy! And you are correct - you can learn so much on the LHC forum! :)
What a great video! Thank you for sharing! It's super helpful! ❤👍👍
thankyou so much for these tips these will be very helpful to me throughout my hair journey ❤❤
love from india❤
You're so welcome! Happy hair growing! ❤️
I’m trying to grow my hair long but it keeps snapping , I have very fine hair. Thank you for your video, you have lovely long hair. ❤
Tip : use more oil. Also eating oil on salads.
Wonderful video. Pleaseake more. I have 1b hair and it's also very delicate & fragile. Make one perhaps on maintaining healthy ends(?)
OMG 😱 you have such beautiful hair 😍♥️
VIORI makes a nice conditioner bar. Their shampoo bar is very nice too if you ever are looking for an alternative shampoo bar.
Just wanted to say thank you for giving good advice for hair growth .
How often do you trim your hair
Can colour shampoo break hair...
how do you cover grey hair
I ordered the shampoo bar and they have a conditioner bar too, so I ordered one too. Can’t wait to use them.
Im in a phase of getting rid of bins this last year. I clip up my braid but never messy anymore
What did your mom use on her hair ? Was it a henna indigo mix ? That sounds amazing I would love to use it myself
J R Liggetts Also makes a conditioner bar … found it on Amazon
Hey Natalia,
Thank you.Your hair is spectacular.
Taking care of your scalp is important for healthy hair as well as diet.
Definitely worth mentioning that J.R. Liggett's shampoo bar is cruelty free and vegan as well!
I love your natural hair color. It’s so rare these days to see virgin GAO.
Very pretty and great energy....
Thank you for the tips 🙏🏾💖
Viori shampoo or conditioner soap bars contain rice water- rice water encourages hair growth. So check out the brand name VIORI for a bar condioner👌
This was super helpful thanks so much 😊😊
This is great, one thing I suggest for you is that you just get a trim. I know what you're thinking, you're trying to grow your hair why cut it. Like you said in the video, there's damage with some of your older hair at the bottom. Plus if you have split ends, you should definitely get a trim. It will make your hair look and be healthier. Great video, informative! :)
Diluted apple cider vinegar as a conditioner works wonderfully for me! I have dry hair and it smoothes it
I definitely want to try this!
I used to do diluted baking soda and diluted apple cider vinegar for my hair in the shower.
They only issue I didn't like was it really dried out the heels of my feet, to the point they started to crack.
I would do it in the shower with running water, it just floored me that my heels were so affected.
