    This scene really is a masterclass in writing, directing and especially acting. JT Walsh was one of the best character actors ever. Everything he did felt so natural and memorable. This performance is no exception. His timing, line delivery, pauses, hand gestures, facial expressions etc. make you feel like you’re watching an actual textbook narcissistic psychopath who you would never want to meet in real life. Brilliant performance. BBT also gives one of, if not the best performances of his career. Just a brilliant movie all around.

    Brilliant performance by J.T. Walsh. He had only a couple of scenes in this movie but brilliantly played a sex offender and the inappropriate and awkward traits sex offenders possess.

    • @manco828
      @manco828 6 лет назад +39

      He wasn't just a sex offender, it was strongly implied that he killed his victims. He mentioned 'nylon cord' in the 2nd scene.

      I know what u mean. Yeah a lot of sex offenders can blend in very well but obviously not as many sentenced to mental institutions I've had a little experience there and I saw some of what you mean even when it's nothing you could put ur finger on many just have a disturbing not quite right aura about them and this is before u know what they are there for sometimes you can just about tell others are creepy in the extreme and then some u would never know and I guess there probably the scariest to think there walking around maybe working with your sister or mom.

      J.T. was a brilliant character actor with chops in the same vein as M. Emmit Walsh and Kenneth McMillan. There's a scene in the film 'The Grifters', where he portrays a con man having a nervous breakdown in the throes of catatonic psychosis that's downright chilling..

    The writing is fantastic. The bit about JT's charactor being infatuated with the way he rolled up and lowered the window using "electric power" perfectly falls in line with the kind of psychosis his character apparently has. Although they couldn't resist giving the character the unspoken last name of Bushman.

    There is something that sets Thornton apart from other "disabled" performances. It's gotta be the poster, he looks like a typical American working man in the south, and then he starts talking and you see what the catch is. But aside from how he talks, him being hunched over and dressed like a farmer everywhere he goes, his portrayal still entails a guy that looks and acts kind of the same as most people would. In other words, he doesn't gloss over or over do the part, he plays it as naturally as it comes. I could see Karl Childers as a real person because of this.

    We got the honor and pleasure of meeting the late, great J.T Walsh back in 1991 in the Beverly Center.
    He was with his son and he talked to us for a while and gave us an autograph. He was very pleasant and a decent man and an amazing actor. She he passed so young. Reminded me of when we met Martin Sheen at Pavilions grocery. He was amazing and so appreciative we noticed him, talked for like an hour. A great man truly and an amazing actor.
