Hi, we are going to Northumberland in June and staying at Chain Bridge Touring site, just inland from Berrick on tweed which is part of the Tranquil Park group. We watched Mat Bakers Travels on C4 and it was mostly in the North East as a result we have booked 3 nights at CAMC Bernard castle. If you didn't watch the series it worth seeing. Happy Caravaning.

Enjoy Ferry Meadows, its a fantastic site, try dropping down to Grafham water club site for your second stop, great walks around the reservoir. and 10 mins from St Neots, or the caravan and camping club site at St Neots. We travelled to Wales last year, and had a fantastic 10 night stay at Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park, on the Gower peninsula, its independant, and the views are amazing. Have an amazing 2024 travelling.

Happy New Year Jason, a few people have recommended Grafham Water and we have looked at it before but never been so may well take another look. We will also take a look at Three Cliffs because this is the sort of area we would like to spend a while because again the scenery, landscapes and beaches do look very nice. Appreciate you taking the time to share these and hope you have a good touring season too. Take care, Helen & Dave

Dave & Helen, Really enjoy your reviews and ended up spending New Year at Clippesby Hall because of your review. As for Ferry Meadows a bit of advice do nor whatever you do arrive even 1 minute early. We had the most horrendous reception from the most unprofessional warden Ive ever met. Shocking treatment due to the fact that my satnav estimated the incorrect arrival time. Secondly another vote for Fields End Water or even closer to St Ives is Stroud Hill Park. Regards Jim

I’ve never left the door open. But we left Milarrochy Bay at Loch Lomond one time and drove 3 or 4 miles along the twisty, bumpy roads to the next village and stopped outside a shop for some supplies for the journey home. I got out and had a look around the caravan while my wife was in the shop, looked through the window and there on the bench was the kettle. I thought I better move it, so went in and it was still half full of water! That would have been a bit of a pain to clear up after a 200mile journey home!

While there are no historic sites etc, there is a pub (The Salmon very dog friendly), Co-op, Fab fish & Chip shop and a fantastic Farm Shop all within walking distance! The Chip Shop is maybe 20mins walk. It's always our 1st stop on our way South and we've never been disappointed. 15 mins to Lindisfarne, Bamburgh/Seahouses and 20 mins South of Berwick uopn tweed. Happy New Year Dave n Helen! Great to see you both again. Defo visit St. Ives in Cambs. Although I'm from over the border (Northamptonshire) where we say 'Nen' in Kettering for the River Nene, not 'Neen' as they do across that other side of the A1. Nevertheless, I lived in St. Ives for a few years, and I must say it is very Olde Worlde! The old Bridge over the Ouse dates back to 1415 (not quarter past two), and built within the centre is one of the smallest chapels in the UK (and the oddest place to build one) Chapel of St. Ledgers. There is also a Grade 2 listed 200 year old green door on the front of the local bakers! It is the famous green door on the entrance to the bakers. Plenty of pubs, restaurants and Bistros. There is also the oldest (purpose built) Inn on the banks of the Great Ouse just outside St. Ives, built in 560! Yes, the year 560! Also supposed to be haunted by a young girl who hung herself over a lover, wayyyyy back in 1050. There is also the a connection with President Washington, where his parents lived near St. Ives and travelled to the 'new world' on the Mayflower. And don't forget to take the guided bus from St. Ives to Cambridge. Have fun! Regards, Kev.
Oh, by-the-way, Kay and I have just been on our second caravan trip to Stretton Lakes, near Rutland, over the New Year and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, even though we rode a storm! We survived, thanks to your RUclips lessons, and we're defo hooked to caravaning! So looking forward to the Spring and Summer months.

Berwick sea view is a nice site, been there numerous times, Lovely view of the harbour from nearly every pitch. Good to take a walk around Berwick boundary defensive wall. It is a sign though that Berwick itself is a little run down and the area hard pressed for money, that the Wetherspoons on the high bridge has been sold to new owners. Not many shops either, Iceland has shut. When we were there, a net fishing team, with a small boat, was fishing for salmon, near the low bridge, from the town side to a sand bar in the middle of the estuary, at low tide, only for a seal to nip into the middle of their nets and eat their catch like a mars bar. Great entertainment for us but the fishermen were not happy at all.

Best wishes to both of you! Thanks for all your content. We bought our teeny tiny caravan last June and are still very much learning each time we go. We're based in The Highlands - and I have to say that we absolutely LOVED West Beach Caravan site which is based in Hopeman (East side) FANTASTIC restaurant, bar - even dolphins swimming by. We've been to Luss too - my husband got eaten alive - but I was going through chemo...so they never came anywhere near me 😂 We had also booked the one near Oban, but had to cancel ...so think we'll try that again. Harris is on our top 5 musts! Not sure where we're going this year - work gets in the way 😂
Thanks again for a great channel.

Hi Sharon, Happy New Year and thank you for your kind words. We love the Highlands and all of the areas you have mentioned and we just cannot wait to re-visit in the first half of this year, perhaps late May or early June. WE hope the chemo treatment you had as done the trick and we wish you health and happiness ahead. Caravanning, we find, just helps with getting away from the hustle bustle of daily life and there are so many wonderful places to visit in the UK, with Scotland right at the top of the list! Stay tuned and we hope you have a great 2024 touring season. ATB, Helen & Dave

Hi Dave and Helen and a happy new year to you both!!
We've stayed at Fields End Water caravan park in Doddington, Cambs and it's a lovely site, It's part of the Tranquil Parks group and is an award winning site. We're in south Herts and it makes a very easy and quick get away for us, the Waterside area of the park is particularly nice with a stunning facilities block. I'm not sure if the location is quite where you want but it's definitely worth a look.

Hi guys, happy New year. Sorry to hear Helen is struggling with her health, we fully understand her how she feels about her lack of mobility. It seems that Helen takes her role as the General giving you direction very seriously, she certainly very adapt at it 😁
Thanks for mentioning that you will add to your site reviews your thoughts on accessibility for those with disability issues. I think it's a very welcome addition.
My addition to your list of mishaps is the very common leaving the EHU cable connected, so very boring in afraid. I have seen vanners driving off the pitch with stabilizers still down on the back, and I am sure there are many others as well.
Hope all goes well for your various tours this coming year, it's a good idea to visit more than one site for each trip, makes it feel a longer time away. Even if it's the same amount of days as a one stop holiday is.
Keep up the good work (videos), we look forward to the next one, take care.

We love South West Scotland and really enjoyed the New England club site, its so peaceful. We also plan to try a site called The Ranch at Maybole this year. We've just booked a week at Maragowan club site a bit further up.
Personal choice but we checked out Berwick Upon Tweed site and it looked pretty scruffy and overlooks a housing estate, we were not impressed but some people love it.
Rather than HoddomCastle we love Pow Foot. Infact we just love Scotland!😊

Happy New Year Cas, it’s hard not to love Scotland. We’ve looked the New England site before and it’s remote location certainly gives you a feeling of getting away from it all, so one we must try at some point. We stayed at Maragowan 2 years ago and it was handy for walking into Dochart which is beautiful. Our stop at Berwick would be one or two nights only to break up the journey home but we had noticed the area but liked the view over the harbour. Happy travels, Helen and Dave 👍

Then when you're watching on TV just hit the up button and you should see a title and comments box that you click by moving left and right on the control until the relevant boxes are highlighted. If you can tell me how to get rid of the filth on the sikaflex seals it would be much appreciated, it’s the only thing that lets my van down!
When travelling south from Edinburgh don’t overlook the north east coast of England, Bamburgh, Seahouses and Beadnell are must visits. The caravan sites aren’t the most exciting but the area is my favourite place in the world. Katie and I got married in Bamburgh Castle in September. Recommend Glororum caravan site about 1 mile outside of Bamburgh.

It's quieter there but there is a clubhouse and shop on site and the food there is very good, we know that there are seasonal pitches there too. We’re booked for North Ledaig in July. Was there in 2023 and the view can’t be beaten. Not the nicest when you arrive as it looks a bit like a scrap yard but worth it for the sun sets. And of course Oban is a lovely place.

Hi Lindsey, we took a little drive onto the site when we were last in Oban a couple of years ago, so we know what you mean about the first impressions but we can see beyond that. Oban is lovely and will feature heavily in our video tour later this year. Best wishes and a Happy New Year, Helen & Dave

    Good evening,
Hooe you are keeping well in 2024 😊.
Can we please pick your brains, as part of our potential Norfolk tour, we can't decide between Seacroft or Incleboro having never used either could you help us decide knowing you have used both, any advice welcome.
    Thanks in advance ☺️.
    Paul and Joanne 👍

    • @HelenandDave
      @HelenandDave  8 месяцев назад +2

Hi Paul & Joanne, thanks for your comment. A tough one because they are both lovely sites, I might be inclined to split the holiday and visit both. INCLEBORO is a lot, lot bigger and is quite hilly in places, fabulous views and lovely walks but a good walk to the village, which is nice with pubs, tea room and railway station with trains to Sheringham, Cromer and Norwich.
Seacroft is smaller and has a nice clubhouse and swimming pool with a bus stop outside running the coastal hopper North or South. Walk into Cromer in approx 15 minutes.
I couldn’t call it other than to say hi to both 👍 No help at all as usual, sorry 😂 Helen & Dave 👍

      Hi,
Thanks for the reply, looking at reviews you have now confirmed our thoughts it's a tough choice 🤔.
Looking at your vlogs Seacroft looks more crowded where as Incleboro looks to give more space plus your epic storm shot would be lovely.
Thanks as always for your help.
Maybe see you on our travels 😉

Happy New Year to you both. To add to your list, one thing we would look for from a site review would be phone reception, I often have to use my phone with ee unlimited data contract as a hotspot. I have a Huawei mifi device, normally used on a 3/Smarty sim. Have used an O2 in the past. As we do not watch live TV anymore (except for Rugby), the Firestick gets a bit of use. Wife has Vodafone, so we are covered fairly well except on sites with high occupancy robbing all the bandwidth…..
As for cleaning our van, it is covered in road dirt and mud from pre and post Xmas, so will get done in better weather! Wales is also on our radar for later in the year, so may take some cues.

Hi Mel, and a Happy New Year to you both too. Thanks for raising another great point on phone signals. We live in Llanelli and I’m sure you will love your West Wales tour as west is best! The site you mention with the hot tubs is further mid Wales way near a town called Aberaeron - It’s called Bargoed Farm Caravan & Camping Park, we have never stayed there but friends of ours have and they loved it!.
If your wanting to come down West Wales we could highly recommend -
Gowerton CMC - good for touring the Gower Peninsula
South Wales Touring Park Llwynifan Farm - private run site - touring Gower or Further West
Pembrey CMC site - Our favourite local to home site situated near the beach.
Hill Croft CMC CL Site - Amazing site! By far, our favourite site being 4 miles from Tenby, 1.5 miles from Saundersfoot and 12 miles from Pembroke with amazing owners.
WoodStock CMC CL site - again a lovely smaller CL which is also close to the above places but not as good as Hill Croft.
      Mid Wales -
Terfyn Mawr CMC CL site - 10 miles from Cardigan and a gem
Bargoed Farm Caravan & Camping Park - Close to Aberaeron or going further down the coast to Cardigan.
      Hope this helps!
When your down this way if you get chance lets us know and we would love to meet you for a coffee or something stronger! Thanks Emyr & Karen.

Hi Helen and Dave, Happy New Year! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures and learning vicariously through them. Would love it if you posted a checklist sometime, not that we have had a cock up yet, no no no, not a single one. Not unless you count a break away cable, or driving off leaving the house front door wide open with the keys in the lock.
You were kind enough to ask for an update on Christmas dinner in the 'van, it was brilliant. Turkey, stuffing with all the trimmings, Xmas Pud' - fantastic. Caz whooped me at Monopoly too so all was well. First Xmas on our own for 20 years and we loved it.

Great to see you back. Recently disvovered your videos. Having been holidaying in Norfolk for 40 years (mum had a static on Sandy Gulls at Mundsley) you have still managed to help us discover so many fantastic sites I never knew existed. So many more for us to carry on enjoying in that county as we now have a touring caravan. If you want a recommendation for small secluded but wonderful site our regular in Norfolk is one called Woodstock near Downham Market.
We also holiday regularly in Wales in particular Pembrokeshire. The site we used most is Nicolstans Farm that sits adjacent to Three Cliffs Bay. It has wonderful walks down to the sea & along to Oxwich Bay. A major favourite. So much so, it is virtually an annual pilgrimage and only about half hour from Swansea Bay.
Keep up the excellent work, your enjoyable to watch & informative.

The Scottish trip you are going to do ( been there numerous times before apart from the hebrides ) is ideal for us. We can travel to the mainland camp sites near Fort William kyle of Lochalsh etc. then carry on, leaving the caravan behind on a camp site and go on the ferry with our camper van and sleep in that on Harris and Lewis, then return to the caravan afterwards. From Bunree as a base last year, we went up the peninsula to Arisaig and Malaig, there is some beautiful coastal inlets along that route and of course the Glenfinnan rail viaduct. A trip across the Corran Ferry ( free on push bikes ) from Inchree area was lovely and pucturesque as well. Don't forget Plockton, while at the Kyle of Lochash.
