    What a fantastic video this is. I never new to leave the vinyl flooring in the room for 24 hrs to accustomize it to the room temp. also, everything was covered brilliantly . I have searched for a decent video to show me how its done. Well done to you . So easy to watch and follow. xx

    absolutely fantastic video!
    My advice is, do not use skirting as the same colour of the floor because if gives the impression that the floor is "climbing" the wall.
    Instead, always use white skirting (if your walls are white of course) because it will give the impression that the floor is fitted underneath the house structure, looks much nicer.

  • @doylee469
    @doylee469 6 лет назад +4

    Word of advice, pull of your carpet and see whats underneath before taking on this project, especially if your house is pre1980. Check for leveling. If your floor takes a significant amount of leveling then just carpet it. Ive been scraping up old carpet matt that has compressed to my subfloor for 5 days and took around 20 hours. After getting it up, i found an uneven wood subfloor, now im 200 extra dollars in on underlaymemt, and the heavy labor thats involved with that. Clicking boards together is easy, not the prep work.

      Joe D I have found the flooring can go over minor unevenness. If more I use drywall knife and thin set to even out. If too much I lay cement board over or other types of covering like osb or plywood.

    Luxury Vinyl usually has an expansion coefficient of less than .1% so the expansion gap is completely unnecessary. This gap IS necessary when using wood and bamboo laminate flooring which expands excessively, so this video seems to confuse these products and provides poor advice.

  • @dainazinas
    @dainazinas 7 лет назад +6

    What you have on the floor is not hardboard. It`s plywood(3.6or5.5mm). This plywood is NOT going to make sure your floor is nice and level!! The required thickness of the plywood is dependent on the condition of the subfloor(you might have to go 9 or even 12.5 mm in some cases). Underlay..... there is a massive confusion on what smooth floor underlay is designed for, confusion continues in this video. Underlay is for giving your floor some sound, moisture and temperature insulation, it at best helps with 1-1.5mm irregularities of the subfloor, and it is NOT designed for leveling the subfloor!!!
    Radiator pipes can be done with a drillbit and a single slit behind the pipe, no need for keyhole cutout(a hairdryer can be used to heat-up the vinyl in some cases). 5mm expansion gap is a myth. LVT is structurally weak at its joints and actually most manufacturers recommend fitting LVT with no expansion gap at all(exceptions are : areas in direct sunlight and sudden temperature changing areas like underfloor heated rooms/parts). So all in all if you want the job done right you should get a professional to do it....

    Luxury Vinyl Plank does not expand and contract

  • @1longholiday
    @1longholiday 15 дней назад

    Why would plastic/vinyl need to acclimatise to a room? It’s not wood or chipboard/laminate.

  • @MSeroga
    @MSeroga 3 года назад +2

    Luxury Vinyl flooring doesn't have to acclimate if there are not VERY drastic changes in temperature in the area where you will be installing. Acclimation is much more important for wood flooring, vinyl flooring has almost 0 expansion. Also the stagger effect is not only for appearance, but to give strength to the floor so it doesn't separate anywhere. Good video, but lacks experience with the product to give the best advice.

  • @kayoss9922
    @kayoss9922 6 лет назад +14

    I wish people would stop installing staggered exactly the same every other row. It should be random. Looks so fake the way it's shown.

    • @MSeroga
      @MSeroga 3 года назад +2

      The best way is to make starter pieces. Take a full piece and cut off 1/3, 1/2, and 3/4 all from the same side on 3 different pieces. Then use them to start rows. But to make the effect look more random, when you make those starter cuts, don't use exact measurements, just eyeball it, and they will be slightly different each time and give it a more realistic and random look.

    • @kayoss9922
      @kayoss9922 3 года назад

      Stair stepping looks just as bad. It should be random!

    • @MSeroga
      @MSeroga 3 года назад +1

      @@kayoss9922 Well if you eyeball the cuts they won't be the same so it will look pretty random, Ahh its easier to show rather than explain :P I think u get the idea.

    • @kayoss9922
      @kayoss9922 3 года назад +2

      @@MSeroga I have installed thousands of sq ft, I know what you mean. Stair stepping does not look good. They should have enough variation to not look like steps or have any noticeable pattern. Once in a while an unintentional step pattern of 3 in a row may happen, but shouldn't be consistent. :-)
