Thanks mate, brilliant video, keep it up, I really like the way you explain everything in details.*****
‘ if you get the angle right it just slips in ‘ 😳 I keep telling my wife that but she won’t have it 😂😂😂

Looks great that room Rodger. And looks a lot easier than tapping every row.👍👍. Not bad for a pipe bender 😀😀
What a pleasure to listen to Roger’s lucid explanation and keeping it real. Great work. Truly appreciate it. Best wishes.
For toilets it’s often easier to unscrew the pan and lay the floor underneath. Clearly it’s not always possible but where you can it looks fantastic when done.
I have put a few of these down and I always work from left to right when looking at the job, the short ends will just lay on the other board . Also when tapping together I use an old steel square about 600mm it’s a better tap than an off cut, more solid to ‘tap’. And yes vacuum vacuum vacuum!
Great video Roger your building knowledge is vast your approach and delivery of the videos is always so on point love skillbuilder
Top job Roger..please buy the sparky a laser level for his outlets..:-)
Ron Bladon shocking! 😭
He had one. I think they need adjustment
Those things are usually supplied with a rubber tape measure. ;)
"I don't cut towards my hand," I cut towards my femoral artery instead. lol
As a side note, those floor sensors are less than a fiver each. I put two in side by side, so when one fails it is a simple job of swapping connections in the back of the 'stat.
can you lay it along the length and tap the header in.?.saves lifting .thats how its done with the protek flooring system.much easier and quicker.
A question if i may, Some of the other makers of click LVT floors state that kitchens should not be fitted onto their floors, I assume this is not the case with this range?
It can limit the expansion and contraction of the floor and with granite worktops I would cut around the feet to allow movement but in this case the floor is free on the other sides and is short enough to limit the movement.
@@SkillBuilder Thank you for the answer. I only asked as some may not be aware that not all LVT type of floating floors are the same.
Always watching and learning from the videos.
@@SkillBuilder My builder did this (installed the kitchen on top of the floor) and one particular part of the floor bulges up in the summer. How can we fix this without major disruption? I was thinking of taking off the kitchen plinth and using a Dremel (or something) to basically cut the floor a few millimeters of expansion gap around the kitchen units.
@@nathanevans6693 that is exactly what you should do, but no need for a dremel, just an ordinary Stanley knife will do the job!
I have a ground floor kitchen with underfloor heating was told by kitchen fitter that I should have fitted the kitchen first as the vinyl laminate is floating? Is that correct and I would have saved some money not laying foam underlay !
My skills at doing anything DIY are not that good. But having watched this excellent demonstration of how to lay click flooring by someone who readily admits that he’s not a full time professional floor expert, I feel if I follow the advice I could do a good job on laying my new kitchen click vinyl flooring. The tips I picked up… 1) Don’t rush, and take your time! 2) Prepare the floor and keep is as clean as possible, and vacuum as you go 3) Before starting make sure you lay the first piece parallel to the wall/cupboard 4) Use a concave cutting blade on your knife, and take care to always cut away from your hand to avoid accidents! 5) Angle the piece you’re laying upwards slightly before clicking in to the next piece. There may be other points I’ve missed so I’ll watch it again! Thanks for such an excellent demonstration. First class! 👍
"Clunk-Click Every Trip" ;-)
Hi is this good for animals and un even wood ?
Love the using my brain comment
Great job the only thing I would do is randomise the joints more to avoid a repetitive joint pattern.. but other than that 👍🏼
Thought that thumbnail was Gordan Ramsey doing a bit of DIY.
Hi Roger. You said you ran a "datum line" to set the first row. How did you do that, exactly? Thanks.
For a moment Roger I thought I was watching how to look 10 years younger!
Great vid as I always just about lay a load of laminate floor, this new vinyl floor looks great I will be recommending it.
The LVT I have bought from wickes says dont lay under kitchen units!!
I think it might stop the expansion and contraction if you pin it down with the legs. I would rather but some small holes for the legs and fill around them with silicone. I have seen so many leaking washing machines go undetected because it creeps under the floor covering.
Thanks for this I was struggling because was trying to do this the wrong way your video helped a lot, and it's very true what you said that if you are forcing or struggling, you are doing something wrong. Nothing but satisfying 'clicks' from now on 👍
Glad it helped and best of luck with the rest of the job, It is too expensive to spoil.
@@SkillBuilderfucking right it is!
Interesting video. Does this type of flooring need an expansion gap around the perimeter?
around 5mm expansion on each end
Overall good info but a key point of a Floor is for the aesthetics of a room as its such a big feature. On this basis the header joint spacing depending on customer expectations could ruin that and should all be random and and not duplicated like a-lot of these are across the floor. There a simple way of using the boards in 3 row starter sizes to keep a basic random staggered joint across the floor but a decent floor layer would use the waste from row ends and cut to suit across ensuring no H joints or Step joints across the rows.
By no means a dig at you as i watch a lot of your building videos and think you guys are great, just some feedback so the next Palio click will be installed perfect :)
Hi Luke
It worked out that we had roughly 200mm from the offcut to start the next row. The customer was happy with the idea of keeping the joints in line. I agree with you that more of a stagger would have been better but it would have wasted more planks. I asked them if they wanted it changed and they said no.
How about telling people not to lay cheap flooring and then build a fitted kitchen on top!
Had to replace a cheap floor that outlasted the kitchen! Bloody mare!
You probably dont need it for this, but I use a flooring slide hammer. Super easy to control especially when you have to tap the last row to a wall or other object.
Just got a couple of packs of this for the bathroom. My chipboard flooring was not perfect so laid 12mm play down which seems pretty smooth between joints now. Having read some of the comments I'm now a bit apprehensive about having a go at laying this. I've actually got a bit of a gap at the skirting so was planning to slip it under, lining it up with a datum line on the floor. One question is it advisable to try have a full tile at the door entrance.
How important is it to fill the joint of the plywood and if so what with
Fitted this stuff a few times and it's very installer friendly looks a good job 👍🏻you wouldn't fancy cutting around the pan your a plumber whip it out lol
Lovely job Roger 👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Seen where the last row was missing because it was under furniture. Ofcourse the only way to move the furniture was to lay a new floor
I'm looking into buying & fitting 40sqm of Karndean Korlok lvt plank, for a kitchen & family room. I'm taking time to prepare the subfloor with levelling compound to get it flat as I can see that it probably wouldn’t take much vertical movement to unclick adjacent planks. Still, several flooring contractors I've spoken to recently have been fairly negative about click lvt systems, and are only willing to fit glue down, which is working out about 2x the price of click with their fitting fees... Is there justification to be suspicious of click lvt or is it a good & reliable diy system if you do the prep ?
Doing a bathroom floor in this tomorrow........ around an offset shower tray. Bedded the tray down so that there's around 4-5 mm vertical gap, and approx 10mm to introduce horizontally beneath the rim of the tray; after the underlay and flooring goes down. Hopefully, should be able to tuck it ever so slightly away beneath the tray. Neat bead of silicone to finish off. Fingers crossed. Wasn't aware that it could be scored n snapped. TYVM!
Good luck Loafer. We usually get a joke from you. I hope you aren't getting sensible in your old age
Dour, miserable and ever increasingly more curmudgeonly in my old age. beer and edgy humour keeps me sane(ish) This bathroom is like a black hole or the mafia. There's no getting away from it. As a literary analogy it would be War and Peace. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"
I'm having a new kitchen Roger .
Hopefully your local to Kent Area near Bexley Kent .
Would been more then happy to have you lay my flooring.
Here's hoping
Roger this material... shoe damage animals all the scratches are they permanent or can you remove, as the most careful situation they mark and looks awful !
Is no expansion gap required, skirt aready installed and no chance im takiing them off
Luxary vinyl plank with built in Underlay so should I use separate Underlay for it?
Great job roger....love the channel 👍🇺🇸
Who's done the electrics 😆🤦🏻♂️🤡🤠
You did
I used to tell my guys never work from one box at a time three boxes was ideal weather natural materials or engineered man-made not sure it really makes a difference
You are right but we kept our eye on it and it was consistent through the whole batch, I always mix up ceramic tiles
Skill Builder I’m retired now used to just tell my guys that with everything so I wouldn’t have to check on them. which of course I did anyway. I really enjoy your videos
Kardean recommends you to mix boxes, to give a mixed blend. Had a friend who didn't do this, client complained, kardean came told him he hadn't laid the floor properly. They even tell you on the course to mix the boxes.
Shame you didn’t explain the crown run and starting off? Do you start from the middle and work to the wall?
As always a great video, might have a look at that system
What an absolute dude. Love a bit of quality control. Good job. 👍🏻
Your joins are far to close for that length of board. But good effort
You forgot to introduce yourself :-) love your videos !
Yes you are right
Hi. Looking for some help. I have a self level compound on my floor, which I don't think has been layed well. It's level. But it's dusty. I know enough to know it's not meant to be like that. Could I still lay this sort of flooring on top? Thanks.
Seal it with some SBR and it will be fine
Are the loose lay vinyls better than these with sound, feel under feet? anyone ?
Can this be layed straight over floor boards or can i lay it over old laminate floor underlay the green fibre boards
Did you put the kitchen back over the flooring? I'm aiming to my kitchen/diner and concerned about the heavy appliances - Karndean seem to be saying to fit up to the heavy stuff but as this isn't glued i wondered how that would work ....
We just put it under the units all to wall before anything was fitted. It seems fine
Hi Roger, can you recommend any easy install flooring for my kitchen. I have loads of cracked kitchen tiles because the floor was laid uneven. I'd like to lay flooring on top of the tiles. Thanks.
Perfect timing Roger - I'll be doing a large kitchen & 3 bathrooms soon!!!
Pro tip: you can watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Matias Wesley yup, been using flixzone} for since december myself :D
Roger, I love that you laid the flooring all the way to the wall. The Wickes fitter annoyed the hell out of me when even though the room was empty he installed all the units first and then only laid the flooring part of the way. The kickboards hid the bare floor from view but it bugged me that I knew the flooring didn't reach the wall. Liked and subscribed.
Hi mate, in all honesty the guy did right what he done for multiple reasons imo so don't let it bug you to much , fitting units etc on top of flooring like this restricts it's movement and expansion, floor like these move naturally and are meant to , this is why he leaves gap gap around perimeter.
Also your kitchen will most likely outlive your floor so if and when you change due too damage or just wear and tear it will be a hell of a lot easier from what your fitter has done and very common to fit the finished floor after kitchens or are fitted incase damage during installation etc .
Hope this puts you at ease and it's not a dig at a very good installation guide .
Can you lay click luxury vinyl over jackboard?
NICE WORK
U r the best man.
I thought you were a security specialist?
I am really struggling with an uneven floor.. it is part floorboard, part concrete and part chipboard sheets.. what is the best way to level this out.. Also what UFH would you recommend??
I think I would lay cement board over the whole lot. You can bed it on cement based tiles adhesive. The other alternative it to bed some underfloor heating trays onto tile adhesive and then lay tongue and grooved chipboard over the whole lot as a floating floor.
Looks like a decent floor. 👍
Did you not laytex the floor
We did
Can you do a contrast/decorative border with click flooring like this?
you can but it is not as easy as doing it with square edge. You can't get the mitres on this
for flats (3rd floor), would this system need an underlay for noise? If so what type of underlay, density?
Lvt click like this is fairly quite compared to laminate.. but you can get underlay, use the same brand of underlay as the lvt
@@danielboard7097 thanks, what about construction board?
Paul Thomas no only use what is recommended for warranty purposes in my experience the underlay will come on a roll but different brands have different under lays to soft and thick and the joints will brake
Paul Thomas there are other ways such as recolay and regipol which is a dense rubber underlay but needs to be stuck down all over we used a lot of this in 600 bedrooms recently it’s more for a floorlayer than a do it yourself option
@@danielboard7097 thanks for your help.
How do you finish if the room has skirting on do you need to leave a gap for temperature changes
yes, usually people put a bead around the edge to cover the 5mm expansion gap
This channel has helped me so many times over the years. Thanks 👍
Great to hear!
What are your views regarding the staggering of joints on each row.?
Completely random or match the joint on every row.
They say random but it works out that the offcut from one row starts the next so the cuts stay the same. We kept the joints in line on this one
What did you put on thr floor that make it level and smooth? I'm about to install Karndean looselay flooring over plywood but I need to make the surface smooth it's pretty rough since I ripped ceramic tile off of it. Any recommendations? Thanks for these Karndean videos!
You will need to latex the floor with a flexible latex because of the ply. It's the same procedure as doing the lvt. You need to follow karndeans installation procedures, notoriously good at het out of there guarantee.
Is it best to take your skirting boards off,lay the flooring and then replace, rather than use that trimming quadrant stuff?
I prefer it but in the case of this flooring you butt right up to the skirting with no expansion gap so there is no need for quadrant.
@@SkillBuilder Thanks for your reply
Do you still need to have a 10mm expansion gap like laminate?
yes on this system a gap is needed
I put mine underneath the WC pan.
Looks like great stuff, the fact it's so easy to cut must save so much time and mess.
Can this stuff be laid on a wood board subfloor using a suitable underlay?
If the floor is stable and the joints are good it will be fine. If there are gaps in the boards they will telegraph through.
@@SkillBuilder thanks for the reply. The boards are very strong and are all fixed down well but I understand that the lines of the boards may show through. Is there an underlay that can be used?
Great vid roger “as always “
Never used the Palio click but have fitted miles of laminate and with laminate it’s easier to fit left to right with tongue out, is it the same with this system.
Keep up the excellent work 👍
It probably is better but I went with the room and got the recess done. It is slightly different because you don' tap the end in.
nice vid, i missed only the start off the floor and its essential to a good end i think
Hi roger did you leave an expansion gap around the edge mate
yes on this floor there is a 10mm expansion gap on all sides. We put the skirtings on afterwards.
Thank you so much for your video, it was very helpful.😊😊
Glad it was helpful!
I have never laid vinyl flooring, but it would have been better if Roger had showed how to cut around objects that you cannot scribe and snap. Great video though. Very informative.
We will do a follow up on difficult cuts. Works well with a template and multi tool
Skill Builder thank you
Bet Georgina is chuffed - you've made a lovely job of that 👍👍👍

Tim
well spotted. No pay on this one
How does the flooring hold up with moving washing machines and fridges around on top of it?
It is never a good idea to drag appliances around on any finished floor but it is tough stuff
Cooshty
It's a nightmare to lay
Would you not just take WC out. Lay floor then re seat the WC. I have this stuff in my WC and it is great really hard wearing. Looks amazing
Depends how hard that is to do. I would because I am a plumber but floor layers cut around it a lot of the time.
@@SkillBuilder fair point. I am a scaffolder and i take out the toilet when laying floors. The finish is much better. Thanks for the reply
@Steve Diamond always one idiot. Yes it gets a silicone finish. Use a 90 degree forming tool so it takes the shape of the toilet rather than have an obvious silicone bead around the toilet
@Steve Diamond as i said always one idiot steve thats on here just to troll
@Steve Diamond not disputing weather you move the toilet or not. I was just saying its my preference to move the toilet. Read the comments instead of having an attitude you would see i am talking about my own house. Again your just a troll. Think you know everything but know F ALL

Top job as always Roger
Thank you Luke. You made a great job of the screed.
Wish me luck. This is my job today!
Take your time.
can you lay it straight on floor board? in a small upstairs bathroom or would you recommend hardboard or ply first? assuming the floorboards are level. my instinct is telling me it would be fine on straight on floor board, but I don't have the product in front of me.
vinyl flooring, even planks, need a smooth finish. skin it with 6mm ply and staple it down
No it must be smooth and fill any gaps in the ply or use a self leveller over the timber. They make a fibre reinforced on. Levelex
@@SkillBuilder thanks
I wouldn’t do that, I got some of this type of flooring (B and Q own not karndean) and put it on bathroom floor on some thin underlay. It looked OK at first then it all came apart as the floor wasn’t level enough. This stuff only has tiny interlocking bits unlike normal laminate so if there’s any flex to it as you walk on it it’s enough to disconnect it, it does need some sort of boarding I think. Eventually it got so bad here I just put some nice vinyl down over the top of it which is quicker, cheaper and easier anyway if not as hard wearing. You can get some really nice vinyl these days.
Tip Top Tips!
Cool video
Excellent
Why dont u just cut the board twice instead of struggling to snap it
Hi Neil. I tried that and it doesn't help much
Ok buddy just when score it twice I find easy thanks for reply
@@bestfloors5084 I will try it, thanks

Great job Rodger 👍
I’m planning on using this on a oak floor. It’s nice and level but I’m concerned the V grooves in the existing floor will show through?
Will it?
Can I use an underlay to avoid that problem?
Eventually the V grooves will telegraph through. You can get Palio core which is made for this kind of job where you are going over tiles etc but you might not like it. The alternative is an underlay. If you use something that is no more than 2mm thick you will be fine.
If I use the Palio Core I won’t need underlay or should I use it as an added protection against the lines coming through?
I want to leave no gap one side of the room but a bigger gap the other side under the kitchen cabinets. Will that be a problem?
Wow there is so much more to a installation this than this vid. Like what is the standard of floor level. Climate control. More than said. Door James. Direct sunlight. Furniture placment. Trims. Etc
There is always more to say. Of we make a video 5 times as long then 5 times as many people will leave before the end.
Good work. Splitting the boards/planks into three equal pieces looks better at staggering the joins.
Yes I agree but it depends what you can do with the offcuts.
