We only have one box on our hill and it's super skinny😕 but I will try (Edit): just got back from skiing and now I have a sore hip lol (Edit 2): one week later and now I can do it just kept trying👍
I shoulda watched this video before I tried to hit a rail after having only hit 50-50's prior. Hurt my back a little bit and ski'd like a wimp the rest of the day.
"Remember not to edge on the box" is said as if there's no severe consequences of edging on the box. If you've ever done it, you know *exactly* what happens.
just learned box slides today and if you are willing to risk you can learn it in like 3-4 tries on the wide box and after that youre good to go on every box that is not downside and have it in two tries i thought it was hard but im moving on to rails now
@@bcrides6717 havent skied for 2 years now...university and ankle injury. But i did learn tubes which i think might be similar to rails, a bit harder to slide the whole thing if its long but hurts less if you fall on it
Honestly, I like your tutorials and everything but please wear an helmet next time, we never know what can happen, I lost one of my great friends who was extremely good at this, he was not wearing an helmet, he attempted a backflip, he was always able to do them before, but this time, he landed on his head and broke his neck, rest in peace Gary :(
Wish I would have known not to try and grind on the side of a box lol I slipped it and landed right on my hip on the edge it felt just slightly painful 😬
I always slide out backwards and have tried so hard to lean forward even by grabbing the pant leg of my leading foot and I still feel like I lean back too far. any tips?
make sure that you are not trying to apply any edge. it is natural to expect that your edge will catch when you are 90 degrees to your direction, since when you do that on snow you stop. Just relax and imagine keeping your ski bottoms totally flat. Also, keep your feet wider until you are awesome.
iVyper_ you are either unbalanced or you are going too slow. When you go for a 50 50 don’t go too slow and when you are on the box, be sure to keep your skis straight. Don’t look down on your skis but instead look towards the end of the box. It also helps if you bend your knees a little.
I dont know if its my ski or im bad but i always keep falling in same direction in same way. I tried going slow, fast, average doing jump. Basically everything but my skis just doesnt slide on the box do i need to wax my skis?
Keep your skiis flat on the rail and stand straight up. Also keep your shoulders facing the same way as your skiis are pointing to keep balance but turn only your head to look to the end of the rail.
Mace29 11 when you say lean forward do you mean literally lean forward or lean sideways in the direction of the rail, which would be forwards in my momentum
Keep your leading hand by your knee. Every time you slip out try to think about where your front hand was. I am sure it was up by your shoulders or over your head
The rails are easier to control and bite into for sure…but obviously take more confidence because your ski is not supported so you can just stand there and glide across in any position.
I wanna ski so badly but I’m only twelve and my parents won’t help pay for lessons I’m pretty sure I’m also doing three instruments any tips on when to start
whats up guys, when I try to 50-50 a box, my skis tend to get "stuck" on the box, I get alot of friction and feel like I'm thrown forwards by the abrupt braking of my skis. anyone has got a clue wether it's my skis (blizzard brahma CA), just the box which hasn't got enough slip on it's surface, or last but not least is it an issue with my technique? thanks :)
We wanna see a vid like this where you teach a beginner
Watch stomp it tutorials on you tube an look up how to hit a box

Nice video, guys! Super simple and really well filmed. I'll definitely be taking these tips to the park this season. :)
going to a skiing center in early march with some friend. gonna try to learn this! thanks for the help!

Can I do it without freestyle skis? I have the mountain ones and my mom won't let my buy the freestyle ones.

I don’t have twin tip skis yet tho
Damn that’s a wide ass box
I always slide out backwards and have tried so hard to lean forward even by grabbing the pant leg of my leading foot and I still feel like I lean back too far. any tips?
They say it in the damn video, apply pressure to the tail of your ski. Not by leaning back, but by using your anckle, otherwise it won´t work well.
IK II IL IL just try looking where you are going

Your ski's bindings are not properly set up like backward so your boots are not centered with the ski
Try to have the rail under your feet, directly under, in the middle of your skis (if you dont have your bindings set back or anything)
Great tutorial, but how come whenever I go for a 50 50 on a box my I always slide off it?
iVyper_ you are either unbalanced or you are going too slow. When you go for a 50 50 don’t go too slow and when you are on the box, be sure to keep your skis straight. Don’t look down on your skis but instead look towards the end of the box. It also helps if you bend your knees a little.
ok thanks
you have to have a wide stance
on the box
and rail my coach said

Crack Kid you are probably leaning to much forward
I always fall backwards when I’m hitting a rail how do I stop that
Lean a little more forward? Or try to hit the rail in another way. Maybe you are doing something wrong
Lean forward xD
Keep your skiis flat on the rail and stand straight up. Also keep your shoulders facing the same way as your skiis are pointing to keep balance but turn only your head to look to the end of the rail.
You probably need center mounted skis, you likely have most of the ski infront of your binding and too less in the back so you are falling back
MC21 im always afraid that my ski cut in to the box and slam my face of my body😂😂
Have you any ideas how I could build på own rail? Just a regilar pipe on a snow bank? Wich type of pipe should I use? Plastic och metal?
I need a part where you purposefully fall and show us how to fall
Every time i try a rail a slide out back and my side falls down onto the rail. How do i stop this?
Lean forward
Mace29 11 when you say lean forward do you mean literally lean forward or lean sideways in the direction of the rail, which would be forwards in my momentum
The Chindex i learned to do rails over this season. U gotta lean forward sideways so with your momentum
Keep your leading hand by your knee. Every time you slip out try to think about where your front hand was. I am sure it was up by your shoulders or over your head
Is it correct that boxes are way more slippery than rails?
It tried sliding sideways on a box today and my skis just went flying off to the side
The rails are easier to control and bite into for sure…but obviously take more confidence because your ski is not supported so you can just stand there and glide across in any position.

Probably not going at the box fast enough. Even rails get sticky when you don’t go at them with some speed

not always true. I have heavy skis and can still pop. Just do ur squats bro
