- Our hybrid all wheel drive dirt bike gets thrash tested and race around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix! We brought the QS273 and Tillotson 225cc powered dirt bike out to Mini Mayhem spring 2024 for some fun with our subscribers. We put the homemade dirt bike up against a Yamaha YZ450F dirt bike to see if our homemade hybrid can compete with an OEM top tier dirt bike!

I mean, Yamaha themselves made a 2WD WR450.. so the concept is solid. I'm not that surprised.

250 2stroke motor with a recluse clutch setup plus electric motor then you'd have a contender
put a belt instead of a chain they are more efficient than a chain when worn. I know it can be costly but im curious if it would make it faster vs chain.

That funky 4 wheeler thing looks like a miniature Dodge Tomahawk; it was a prototype "motorcycle" they made with the 8.4L V10 from the Viper.
Yeah that thing is cool.....that thing deserves a big motor

Dude at the event said he bought it off marketplace, and that it was made by some Chinese company. I think he said you could still buy them, but I have bo clue where to even start lol
I have always wanted to see this done on a e bike. with hub motors on both front and rear wheels. it would make the ultimate mountain bike.
Drive by wire for the tilletson so you can sync up front and rear would be good. There are also cable operated potentiometers, that paired with a 2 cable throttle could sync up front and rear without drive by wire.
16:32 that’s modeled after a concept from when I was a kid called the dodge tomahawk. Was a 2 speed viper v10
The mini bike with dual wheels is so cool, the way the front tires turn is awesome, I’m sure whatever they build next will be another awesome peace.
Miss Charles really bad guys. He was my draw to the channel. It's not personal, of course, we don't know each other. I still enjoy you guys and your antics. I just feel super bummed he couldn't stay.

I have a feeling whenever you corner, you want more wheel speed or torque hitting the front tire to keep from 'driving' into the corners and instead 'pull' through them.

That double-dually GY6 is channeling the Dodge Tomahawk, a "motorcycle" powered by a Viper engine and, like the critter at Mayhem, sporting side-by-side wheels at both ends.
Yall should make another version of the same thing but each version adds another wheel. Next version a 3 wheeler with 2 wheels in the back and then 2 wheels in the front and 2 wheels in the back and then 2 wheels in front 2 wheels in back.
I've loved watching your videos since the beginning. I've seen the channel grow from strength to strength, and I am happy enough to watch the adverts so you can get paid, buy new bikes, and the land and shop you built,... But, £8.99 per month to watch behind the scenes videos! You are seriously taking the pi$$. I can get Netflix basic package for £6.99 per month and watch it every day! That's shocking for your loyal fan base that helped you get where you are today.

Those QS273 motors come in different flavors, or "windings" which greatly affect their torque and top speed. it will likely have specs on it like 2.5T if you got a 5T motor instead you'll get more torque. which might make the difference between climbing a big hill or wining on an open desert.

John's 1.18.46 is nothing to be embarrassed about. Bearing in mind its height and weight and John's lack of height and weight, the fact that he was just on front wheel drive with no front brake I reckon that was a good result, I was surprised he got round the track at all without dumping the bike at some point.
I'd love to see a Tillotson 265 or a ghost engine powered sidecar setup

Relax dawg I’m not certain but that’s there like there “big“ project for the year as far as videography and editing so give them time to edit it this video was probably just filler like a nibble of mini Mayhem before the whole episode

Looks like you need more traction if you are spinning and sliding. It might need some softer compound super knobbies.
Please put a real engine in it! Like a 250 or 450 2 stroke or 4 stroke at least a kx125 engine lol
We went with a Tillotson so we didn't have to shift gears. Two throttles is enough, two throttles plus shifting would be impossible!
I would like to do one with a manual clutch, maybe on a cross kart. You won't need your engine's electric start if it's a hybrid! Just take off in electric only, put it in gear, and dump the clutch!

you can get an electric start kit for the 212s/hondas for like 120, I think It could be beneficial to look into that

That's Awesome ! I have some electric stuff I want to put on a front wheel of my 'Motorized' and you've given the Push. I'll use the Twist throttle for gas,and will put a peg through the grip to hit the Electric so it runs evenly. You guys should do that.< Synched power without having to coordinate 2 different.Just a switch to turn On the electric front so it's not always in play.
And on that bombshell ! you'll have a stigg next 🤣🤣

I mean, the concept is good. If there was a way to make it switchable 2wd on one throttle setup then you might have something really special there. Like front only, rear only and then AWD. That would be pretty cool. Regen on the front would be cool for down hills.
I want to make one so bad now, been on my mind for a few years.

have you figured out the top speed of that electric motor would be yet. my trail will fun 58 on a good day but it likes 48 to 54 mph on most days.

Now all you need to do is putting an electric hub on the rear too, see how zippy it is then... :P
Gears weren't just invented for torque and speed! They also work well for braking so why don't you fit an engine with a gearbox and see what it's like instead of relying on brakes only to slow you down. A centrifugal clutch doesn't help with braking what so ever 🤔👍💚💛❤️
Also if you can incorporate a front brake that would also be handy 👍💚💛❤️
That motor should be able to do regen braking with the right controller and that whole drivetrain might be cool on the big land speed bike
Get another hub motor wheel and use a generator to power both.

To be honest, the power of that dual-drive dirt bike is better than I expected. I figured the basic Tillitson engine would hold it back more than it does. I get they are good engines for Go-Karts but obviously going up against a 450cc is like a Civic going up against a Ferrari. I had an older 90's Honda 200cc Dirt Bike a few years back. I honestly think the dual-drive could keep up or even just barely out-pace the old Honda 200cc. Thats honestly not bad when you remember that standard dirt bikes have gears and yours just has a torque converter. I hope GoPowerSports one day makes like a little 3 or 4-speed transmission that can be mated to Tillitson and Harbor Freight engines.

Edit: Another thought, slightly cheaper this time. Maybe a 3-wheel drive Morgan-style build with electric power on the rear-wheel with a gas-motor up front?
Fix the front brake! Then figure a inking together throttle potentiometer controller device - you know dual carb cable connecting carb and electric control.. maybe find an electronic type guy to sync up an Arduino (programable features) box device control to match the gas engine hp power curve (dyno)... I.E. full control all wheel drive bike.. then show me a standing launch and find a G force meter... LOL!!!
I've been thinking about it for a while and I can't think of a better place to ask- I'd like to find the old three-wheeler I had as a kid and buy it back, if it's still around. 70-something Yamaha 125 2-stroke, allegedly bored over, yellow and black with the rear fenders cut half-off. My dad sold his and mine after he had a rollover and got horses instead maybe twenty years ago in the Charlotte area. I prefer ATVs over horses and want it back.

🇺🇸👍 Awesome toy now put a 200-250 2 or 4 stroke with an automatic clutch and synchronize the throttle the best you can. With the gears now you can utilize the torque at low end so the front not pulling the rear and losing power.

electric supercharging might be something cool to look at electric to get upto say 45mph then the gearing of the 212cc picks it up at 35mph to 80mph it would have the benefit of self-charging when going over a certain speed how many miles can you get on a home built hybrid bike? challenge between ike and john?
Finally a REAL BIKE on the channel. Hope to see you guy get one...at least consider buying a crf250f its a full sized trail bike for adults low seat height air cooled engine and its 5k new but it handles like a true dirtbike and i think it would take you guys to the next level
That suspension is complete garbage. The front end is blown to bits. That’s your weakest link.. replace it with with good front end !

I could totally see you guys putting a KX80 engine in place of the tillotson. Shifting wouldnt be fun but maybe getting the electric motor and gas motor all in one throttle would help. Just delay the electric motor to a certain throttle position before it kicks in. Either way i love it

I think, you should have put the electric engine in the back and gas engine power the front wheel. Front wheel doesnt need torque, it needs speed, rear doesnt need speed, it needs torque.
I wonder how it would perform with just electric power. Maybe a second hub motor for the rear would be fun.
