Good video! We are planning possible adventures for this year. We start with putting together a reasonable wish list (which didn't include Dawn's wish to ride the Alps..lol). Then we weed it down from there. I'm good with the accessories we have on the bike, but I always stay on top of tires and brakes. Thanks for the heads up on the wheel bearings! Be safe!
Thanks! A wish list is a good idea. We have a list of places to visit a mile long. Lol Most of the places I want to go to will take over a week to do comfortably, which can make it hard to choose. With our work situation, we can only take one week off a year, so anything more will have to wait until retirement. The Alps would be amazing! Thanks for watching
My project for this year is to get my 1973 Yamaha TX500 back together, and once that's done, hopefully ride it to the Barber Vintage Festival and return via Natchez Trace Parkway, assuming I can work out the time off for that.
That sounds like an excellent plan! Is the Barber Vintage Festival same place as the Barber Museum? We've been wanting to go there. Hopefully, you can get the time off.
@@motorcycleden sometimes I’ll do my own, usually I bring them to a shop now, I’m just lazy. My son and I are thinking about the Rabaconda, expensive, but we have four bikes between us. I’m sure we’d get our money’s worth….
@Motoramblings that was my thought when I started to buy the one. Had my dad's, brother's, and uncle, plus mine, so I thought it would've been worth it. Not getting it is a decision I regret.
I'm looking to upgrade some lights on the back with a strobe, and some pinstripe on the tour pack. Rear tire lol and covered bridge ride and then the tunnels.
Great subject. My multi week cross-country trips are always planned. Other than that, I just point and shoot unless there's another rider involved. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks! Yeah, I can see where you would almost have to plan a trip like that. At least to some point. I even plan our day rides. The only ones I don't are when we go out for an evening ride.
@@motorcycleden When you do your planning, do you use any kind of mapping software and upload daily routes to your gps? i do my route planning in mapsource or basecamp for Garmin gps. I do the overall route then break it into daily routes then upload it to the gps.
@HaveMotoWillTravel I use www.myrouteapp.com/en/home It does cost, but I paid a one-time price for lifetime membership and love it! They have a team that works on improvements and updates.
We need to add some lights to ours. I'm just not sure which ones I want to replace next. We don't have any plans yet, but I definitely want to do some weekend trips this summer.
Never replaced wheel bearings on my bikes…. Never owned a Harley. I’m sure I will have to replace the bearings on my Strom just because of the terrain I ride
Yeah, I would imagine that rough terrain is hard on a lot of things. I really shouldn't complain about Harley-Davidson's quality, I knew what I was getting into when I first bought one.
I have dates for different meet ups written down, will go to several of them. Then I have ideas of trips I will take at last minute. I have some off road rides tentatively set up for different dates. I also plan to take some quick overnight trips to hopefully meet some folks traveling….
I know I will be doing some trips on the bikes, but I haven’t committed to any of them %100 yet…. Gotta keep my options open!😂😂😂 My planning usually involves just checking dates, then last minute plans to take off!!!
After seeing what Harley put out for 2024 I do have plans for my “16” as for vacation trip heck yes, when riding with friends we pick out different things to see and as well as the friends we are riding with. And from there we put together what we can fit in 😁👊🏼✌🏼
If your plans are what I'm thinking👍 We've only been on weekend or a long weekend trip with others. Haven't gone on a week long trip with anyone else. Most people don't want to put in as many miles as we want.🤷♂️
@@motorcycleden Lol I hear you on the mileage. We are still mostly back roads to get to where we are wanting to go. But Brigette is slowing getting around to thinking that maybe riding the interstate to save time is ok 😂
@james82744 Mrs Den wasn't a fan of interstate when we first started taking it, but now she's fine with it. We only do it when we have to make time, but it does allow for more time in the area we are visiting.
Yeah I'm planning to get a 2000-2005 Road King Twincam 88 carby model. The new shift linkage looks cool. Does it shift better ? apart from the cool factor. The phone mount cyro charger sounds good. Happy Birthday bro 🎉. Yeah some zippers are crappo made. I'm allways wrecking zippers. Cool trike going past 😎. I've only ever replaced steering head bearings and fork seals. No wheel bearings. I don't plan trips. I just go wherever on the day to random places. Agree when you work, you have to plan. Also have to have a good boss who will organize time off.
The shift linkage does shift a little better. You can tell there's less play when shifting. Fork seals do seam to wear out often. Yeah, having a good boss is important to allowing you to take the time off. Are you in summer season now?
@motorcycleden Ok cool i might see if they have one of those shifters for my bros Electra Glide. Yeah we are in the seriously hot / humid Summer. Looking forward to Autum / Winter riding ❄️🏍
I usually start planning on the next vacation trip when I get back from this years trip, and it usually changes several times over the course of the planning.. also I'm never had to replace wheel bearings..
I should try that, but it's hard for me to get in the mood to plan that far in advance. I do constantly make little notes for different places that sound interesting. So I guess that's like planning. That's good you've never had to replace a wheel bearing. On our 2018, we had one that was bad right around 15k. Also, we were on a ride with my uncle, and his bike had right around 15k. At a stop sign, he said he felt a slight wobble in the corner, like he ran over a stick, and his tire rolled off. Right after we took off from stop sign, his rear wheel started wobbling back and forth so bad he could even ride it. Turned out to be bad bearings. After that, I started looking into it and found a lot of people online that ran into the same problem right around 15k. So with this bike, I just went ahead and replaced them when I replaced my tires, just to be on the safe side.
@@motorcycleden Initially it's just okay where/what do I want to do next year.. Like this year its see the sister in Dallas, then do the Natchez, then on to Ohio for a weekend. Then it's over to Gettysburg Civil War stuff for several days.
Have you riden Rt192 The Rattlesnake, down by Cumberland falls. It was a nice route but the eastern side by 75 has lots of houses. My family are from that area and i know the roads pretty well.
We haven't, but I have an app with each state separately listed and the roads I want to ride. 192 is on my list. We have ridden in that area a couple times and it's beautiful
I pick out a few places I want to see then put them in the gps on my phone to see how many miles I have to average a day. I usually never plan were I will be staying for the night. Last year was the million dollar Highway, Four corners monument, Grand Canyon, Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona, then the Big Texan steak ranch. Then back to Ohio. Avoided interstate all the way to Grand Canyon then about 90 percent interstate on the way back. This year I’m thinking about going across the top of the country to hit the states I haven’t been to yet.
That sounds like an awesome trip! Hopefully, next year, we will get to ride Million Dollar Highway. We plan on checking out several things in the southern part of Colorado. Yeah, we will take highway when we have to make time.

That's not to say I wouldn't buy a different brand bike. We honestly went to look at a Goldwing before we bought our first Harley, but we couldn't get anyone to help us at the dealership, so after about 45 minutes, we left.
Yea, I think Harley definitely has the better dealership network. I’m cheap, my GoldWing is a 2001. To cheap to pay over $30,000 for a new bike of any kind

Honestly, I never thought I'd hear a Harley owner say that. I'm still trying to convince myself that you're telling the truth😂👍 Sounds like you have several events to go to this year! I mentioned Ocean City to the Mrs but not sure if we'll be able to go or not yet. Sounds like a great event.
