Thanks! I'm planning to only use it seasonally through the summer dry season. It could run through the winter as far as freezing goes, since the water would be moving and our winters are fairly mild here. However, the creek will be running much higher, so I couldn't keep the pump down where it is now. When enough rain comes to raise the creek, we won't need to pump the water anyways, so it works out well.
I’ve noticed other RUclips creators installing these and then shortly after removing them and I keep wondering why? Seems like a beautiful and simple system to install and maintain, especially for an electricity, free pump.
We will need to remove and reinstall our pump annually so it doesn't get washed away by heavy creek flow in the winter. Not sure about others you've seen. I agree, we love the beautiful simplicity of the ram pump!
What happens when the creek floods and the rushing waters carry the pump away? I'd like to do this but between the creek flooding and then freezing in the winter I don't know if it a great idea.
Great question! Every fall we're going to remove the pump before the creek raises too high, and we'll reinstall it the next summer as the creek lowers. We don't need the water in the wet winter when the creek is running high, so it will work out well for us.
That looks like a great watering system! Thanks for sharing that. Will you be able to operate that in the winter?
