This was the only ride that my mom took me on after turning 4 or 5. We always went on rides at night making this ride even scarier. Years later enjoyed taking my kids on it. Back the late 1950 & 60' s Hunt's pier had the best rides in Wildwood.

OMG this is the most amazing video. I must admit....like many of my past favorites, I got a bit teary eyed watching it come down Did you know that they rebuilt a version of this ride at Knoebel's in PA? They even erected a Mining Museum right next to it, to honor the history of mining. I think that is wonderful and hope to get out there next Spring. It's only 3 hrs from NJ. - Cheers and Thank You for sharing this historical "Sad" moment.

The mining museum was there for years, way before Black Diamond was built.

Brings a tear to my eye. I spent three summers working on that ride.

Jack Morey said in 2008 that it was too cost prohibitive to restore. Blame the state. NJ is very strict about indoor attractions since the May 11, 1984 Six Flags Haunted Castle fire. A bunch of haunted attractions in the state were shuttered. Dinosaur Beach's closing in Sept. 1998 caused this. Pat Croce wanted to reopen the Nugget if he bought the pier, the other potential buyer was the Titus family of Wildwood, who planned to build a waterpark at the end of the pier. Morey's bought the pier in 2000. PA has not as strict laws so it was able to be rebuilt at Knoebel's. But, PA has tough amusement inspection laws to ensure rides are safe.

No, I was just there several times on vacation. Aug 1982, Aug 1983, Aug 1995, June 1996, June 1998 and July 5-9, 2011. I rode the Nugget in 1982, 1983, 1996 and 1998. It was closed in August 1995.

I wonder what happened to the piece of wood that was at the start of the ride where someone carved their name every year! I believe it was an Ed! This was awesome thank u!

The letters were L.V. and belonged to Lou, the mechanic who took care of the mine.

To think, Obummer was the new prez when all this was going on in Feb 2009. And our current prez was vice prez. The last time it operated was when Willy from Little Rock was prez in 1998. There's a whole generation who never got to ride this in Wildwood. They can now at Knoebel's but it's a new ride with new scenes. Knoebel's doesn't have the same vibe as Wildwood it's just an old amusement park in the woods in the middle of nowhere.

I built a replica of this ride in Planet Coaster as well as in RCT3 and RCT2. They are computer games where you build amusement parks.

I don't know which is worse, seeing this or Castle Dracula on fire on Jan 16, 2002. At least Knoebel's built a new version with the old track.
