  • This video shows how I cast resin and avoiding bubbles in a resin cast, without a pressure pot and without using layers when casting a larger item. It also looks at how many bubbles it produces without using a pressure pot. Not all of us have a pressure pot for resin, but would still like to cast larger pieces and not have to worry about not being able to see what is inside of the casting because of the bubbles. What is important is that you use the correct resin and not try to use a pouring resin for casting.

Hello Steve, fantastic work, loving the videos you've got and the work you create. Could you tell me which resin/polyeurothane you used for this mold? It really did well and not many bubbles. 👍🏻

But how would I put bubbles in the casting ?? Like if I wanted the look of the old Coca-Cola glass bottles or just have floating bubbles
I can't find any info on that

Hi, do you mind telling me which casting resin your using please? I'm wanting to do this very same size mould, and torn between craft resin and resin8 casting resin.

I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I find your humor refreshing. Your passion for your creations is obvious, your comments on your work are entertaining. I do appreciate your spontaneity. I fought bubbles in resin for years. I created a paperweight for a butterfly enthusiast that included several dimensional butterflies. I layered the resin pours. In spite of my best efforts I had several tiny air bubbles. I decided to 'embrace the bubbles' - I told the future owner of the piece how challenging it was to incorporate the bits of pollen into the piece. (And now they sell micro-beads to add floating orbs. Go figure!)

This is very nice, and very helpful! ^^
So the main difference between the method shown here and using a pressure pot is curing time?

Question, i don't get bubbles in my resin but the moment I pour into the square mold it starts to form small bubbles on the square mold walls. Do u know why this happens? And how can I prevent it from happening again

What is better to use a pressure pot or a vacuum pot? Can you use a compound to polish the leaf and butterfly before putting it in the mold or will that affect the curing of the resin?

How can you tell the difference between a casting resin and a pouring resin? Just by how long the pot time is? Also, the original piece would have made a lovely hairclip.

Hi which resin did you use for this? Can you pour all resins into a mould that size in one go or do some need to be done layer by layer ? Thanks

Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts that’s great thanks, I was also wondering if I could put fresh flowers or petals in the resin or do they have to be dried first?

If you'd put the flowers in the other way round then the top of the paper weight would have been the decent cast face, the uneven face would be at the bottom.

With the steps you showed I find it hard to believe it came out this clear. Seems a lot of steps weren’t mentioned... like maybe warming the resin before pouring...idk. Seems hard to believe sorry.
