100%. Really raises Seawind's profile among us filthy casuals, of all the channels I watch I think my viewpoint aligns well with Ruby Rose. Their thought processes seem rational and sane.
My question is how much of a discount are they getting? I trust their opinion and know its a solid boat but it would be nice to know exactly how much financial incentive is tied to these videos.
Nick,Terysa you have shown your total love for this new build, by building in (forgive the pun) and taking all of you knowledge gained over inspecting all catamarans in the past, and making this your own. I am looking forward to watching this new build, just as much as most of your followers ,if not all. John. Wirral,
Great update on your new home-on-the-water Cat. I’m an RVer, but have really enjoyed watching your boat reviews and now watching the progress of your new boat.
Really pleased for you. Having a boat built to your spec is awesome enough but Seawind marketing a Ruby Rose spec is testament to you two. Can't wait to see her underway.
I know nothing of sailing, but your videos and discussions have educated and thrilled me. From the look of her, Ruby Rose II will far exceed your expectations, and most importantly, will allow you to explore the world to your hearts' content. It would be fun to see the Wynns join you on board and get their feedback as well! May the build go smoothly and well!
Great boat! Two questions: First, what is the total cost estimate for the actual boat you are building? Second, what, if any, financial benefits are you receiving from Seawind, or any of the suppliers? Not trying to be crass, but we are looking for a catamaran now and to be fully informed. Thanks.
This is going to be a very interesting build process to watch. I can't wait, I imagine you two are having periods of insanity waiting and obsessing. I sure as heck would be if it were going to be mine. I know how I have been with frame off project cars. You are building a custom home that floats and travels...a whole new level.
Sounds and looks like a near perfect boat. Can't wait to follow the process and splash and of course your continued sailing adventures. Thanks for bring us along.
I love to hear about the performance characteristics and see the sail plan. Can not wait to see RR.2 at speed and hear about top speeds. Thanks for the update!
This is going to be fun.. I worked for Boston Whaler mold release then inspection of the total hull tap tap tap every SQ. inch listening for voids.. Lots of work putting any boat together... she's going to be awesome duel stations got a thumbs up.. Carry-on
I've been intently watching Cat GreatCircle's Outremer 55 build start to finish and look forward to riding along on your journey with Ruby Rose 2. Thank You in advance for sharing this with all of us, it's much appreciated. I'm excited for the two of you and it could not have happened to nicer folks.
You're gonna love the engine upgrade especially if you choose some higher amp alternators... 🙂 BTW hope you're able to film the vacuum infusion of the hulls too... always satisfying seeing that resin doing its thing.. 🙂
Thanks so much for the information on your beautiful new boat and am looking forward to seeing the build process Always interesting to see others comments especially the naysayers and critics. In the end it is your boat selected and spec’d out by you and it will be awesome. Let the critics buy and build their own boat so they can make it theirs. 😁. Can’t wait for more vids!!
We shall see! But we think it will work really well and we test sailed the 1260 with the same helms and we loved it. All the Seawind lineup have these helms 😊
Suggestion 2. Sails and lines. It seems your code zero will be fastened on the front beam. I suggest that you go the whole way : rig your cat as a CUTTER. Fasten the code 0 nearly at the tip of the bowsprit, have a UV cover sewn on it, and keep the 3 working sails bent. To avoid scalloping on the long code 0 luff: sheaved spectra halyard (and I use running backstays in a stiff breeze). By fastening the code 0 on the windward BOW (padeye) it becomes a spinnaker for windy days. Best with barber hauler. Still, on a cat it does not pay to run straight down, unless sailing easy. With both headsails out, you can TACK the code 0. For that, your self-tacking jib needs TWO traveler controls, port & stb, to improve tacking by keeping the jib aback for a second. And a cat cockpit is too wide to keep crossing during maneuvers. For single handling, easier to lead all cockpit lines to the same PRIMARY HELM station. Mainsail. Speed can become problem. I become frightened at 16 knots, less in a swell. So, mind your REEFING. Have a modest first reef, to keep zipping along in safety. But a very serious 3rd reef. My new mainsail will have a fourth reef (clewed on the 3rd, for a shorter reefing line) And water does fly up through the TRAMPOLINE nets, so stay away for the soft 20mm netting used for charters, insist on 30mm weave. Behind all the above, are the thousand mistakes, expenses, and pleasures, over my catamaran years.
👍😎👌 Good job on vid. Nice presentation... I can throw a few things in a bag and be ready to leave about the time RUBY ROSE 2 is finished. HEHE 🥂🙏🤞🍷 Love it !!!!!
Hey I'm not sure you will see this but I have subscribed to your channel and I'm very excited about following this build. I've been looking at catamarans for years and this one truly has the ability to fit my wants. That said, I would like to see an electrical diagram or video on exactly where, the switches, remote controls, battery bank, inverter etc will be located and labeled and additionally how accessible these items will be. This has been an issue on every boat I've looked at until you get to the very high end 50ft and above boats. This accessibility is extremely important and as important as engine accessibility while underway. Thanks so much. Hope to hear back.
I surely hope this awesome "performance" Cat will be comfortable in rough seas while at the same time being a joy to sail. Terysa is always a lovely looking woman but in this video, for some reason, her face is so calmingly beautiful! Perhaps it is knowing that a Seawind is being built for you two, right now.....thank you both for this new information!!
Made my life simple. Will just call and say, "Yes, Hello. I'd like to order a Ruby Rose copy." I am so excited about seeing you two in that amazing looking catamaran.
Ha! I ordered a new Corvette C8 Z51 year ago and now it looks like most of another year before we take delivery at the Corvette Museum. Unfortunately they won’t let us “watch” the build so instead I’ll be watching Ruby Rose II being built! Thank you Guys... look forward to the BUILD!!
You've defiantly rocked the world of the RUclips cruising cat shoppers. I bet too Seawind are stoked your both doing such a great job. I'm hooked, and will be eagerly awaiting of your next episodes. Still can't help thinking your going to set the trend back to easy sailing performance blue water live onboards! Sorry I can't be a patron, I need to save every bickkie I have to live my dream too. All the best of luck with the build.
@@sailingrubyrose Nick, name the Tiki bar and the beers will be on me, as soon as flying returns to normal. I'd LOVE to check out the boat with my wife. Alternatively, if you're ever in the Ft. Lauderdale area, dinner, drinks, whatever you want on me :)
Looks like a very nice configuration, well done. Perfect cat for a couple. I specially like the Yanmars and B&G. You of course deserve a huge discount from the yard as regards publicity.
fred wallinder as a collaboration no doubt there is some accomodating going on. Lol! As an Aussie secondhand Seawind prices are already on the up and up. Ho hum, back to looking for a solid monohull.
Hey guys, great to hear more about Ruby Rose 2. Sounds and looks fantastic. What an amazing boat she'll be. Are the Doyle Sails you've chosen something that is on the option list with Seawind or are you doing that separately?
Incredible Boat, Incredible project and the hosts are not to shabby as well ;) Question would be washer/dryer, AC, Water maker (Maybe DC versions). With lithium and regen/solar you could have and run as much as you like.. Plans? I get the weight/speed equation but the latest versions of this stuff is light and makes an exponential diff to live aboard.
Another super update.....Glad you 2 are living your dreams....A new cat is once in a lifetime for most people on the planet....The closest I will be getting to this will be my new Seadoo spark jetski....Lol.....Keep those build vids coming.
Great channel.... I'm a huge fan of the Seawinds. I started looking for a used 1260 about a year ago. I'm definitely going to follow you through the production of your 1370. I would like to know how much you are going to spend on your 1370 including all your options.
Unless I missed it, I didn't hear the cost estimate. Given the size and options I am assuming you must be around $750K US but I'd love to hear the actual number.
Suggestion 1. The Helm position. One notices that Peter, a tall guy, likes to look over his spray dodger on RR1. Who doesn't ? You get a good comprehensive view, even unconsciously, and if spray flies up, you duck. In traffic at night, it is my only way to guess forward. When docking, it gives an ersatz of a helicopter view. Peter, it looks to me like you won't be able to do that on RR2. Unless... unless you ask for a slight modification: choose one helm, which will be your primary helm (more instruments, more lines, better winches). Have the axis of this helm affixed higher on the bulkhead, (even if the spokes will show throw the window) and the throttles higher too, if possible. Have a platform under the helm seat flippable to a horizontal position, to stand on and so have your (and Terysa's) head reach over the coach roof, while still reaching the wheel top with your fingers. Of course, the bimini roof must be cut-out, to be covered when not in use, with canvas, or clear vinyl, or (luxury) a sliding hard top. By doing this now, or a better solution probably waiting by the corner of your clever brains, it will be cheaper than regretting later having bet all on one helm solution and needing two people in iffy conditions. From Noël, an Outremer owner of 20 years
Hello I've never followed you prior to your inspections of catermerans . You have a down to earth in the way you present your videos. Having made your decision on a 1370 Seawind. I hope one of the changes are all electrical winches if it's not standard. I've never sailed a yacht with the sail size your talking about I think it would be very difficult for your lovely wife if she was forced to singlehand. . I do yacht deliveries where hatchs have leaked. Every opening in the fibreglass is a potential leak in the Future. The worst was the emergency hatches low in the keels. On one passage due to the extreme sea conditions they leaked most of the time,as they were under water. Sailing coccos Keeling to Perth after the first 13 days we crossed our rum line to find we had sailed 2nm of our rum line I think the best we could Saul was about 60 to the wind. We lost so much ground due to side slip in the water any way 1530nm took 63 days.
How can you wait!! I have my eye on a cat in my budget, however constantly think about the dream of coming into serious money and buying a top cat, but the lead time would kill me!
I am really late to the game but really enjoyed your search for your CAT and all of your commentaries and reviews. One thing I have not heard you address, and please forgive me that I have not seen all of your videos, is how you intend to equip your CAT to maintain connectivity. I would really be interested to know how you intend to configure your CAT for internet and comma connectivity. Thanks for all you do for this industry, you guys are great!!
Have you calculated a possibility to convert it to fully electric or hybrid ( diesel - electric )propulsion? What max speed on electric motor would you have if cover all roof with solar panels?
Full electric propulsion with a backup generator is the way to go, but probably more costly up front. Much cheaper in the long run for fuel and maintenance savings, especially as batteries continue to fall in price. Hydrogeneration means being able to recharge and power house loads simply by sailing. Much better than burning dirty fossil fuel and much more in harmony with nature, which is what sailing is all about. Definitely max out the solar and possibly add a wind generator too.
Great looking video... But I still don't understand there helm visibility. If you're not in the Caribbean, and don't want to have the window open, well if the weather is bad, you to keep the interior dry... What can you see? If the helms were more on the sides I'd get it, but here I'm still perplex. You seem very confident, surely will work. Well if it works for you. Can't wait to see you use it.
Once we get sailing on her, you’ll see what we mean ☺️ The 1260 and 1600 both have the same helms as the 1370 will have so we’ve already experienced the helms first hand, so if you want to watch those review videos, that might explain more.
Fantastic news, sounds like it will be quite awesome, the other side of the coin is the staggering cost. I'd stick a twenty mile exclusion zone around it, especially here in Spain having witnessed the antics of other boat owners in marinas
Are the helm windows retrievable if electrical problems present? And is it the lens/camera angle or is terysa smiling for two? A lot to love on this boat!
Have you guys heard of a RUclips channel out of Australia called Life on the Hulls? He is building a cat from molds he purchased. Doing all the work himself under a tarp and canvas structure at the end of his shop. Amazing to watch the process. Anyway love the channel can’t wait to see RR 2 sailing.
Hahaha, just a little bit. To be involved in a process where we can add our liveaboard experience to shape the way the boats are designed is a dream for me
Hi, I've been researching catamarans and I'm grateful for the information you've provided. My question is about the sail drives you've gone with. In other videos you talked about the negatives of sail drives. Will this new design have an option for shaft drive?
Ruby Rose 2 is going to be fantastic. I am confident she will bring you much pleasure. Just one little negative. Not keen on the flourescent graphics on the video. Looking forward to seeing the build!
I can see another reason you've really enjoyed sailing the French coast last season. With RR2 European ports must be esp. challenging and more expensive for a cat.
Do you really have 1920w with three panels or is this just an example? If so, what's your layout and do will have have flexpanels or rigid? Thank you and best regards from Germany
Suggestion 3. Sundry. Still to consider before the boat is built. Have a LARGE STORM JIB, furled on its textile stay. It will save your expensive Solent jib. It can be affixed to the cross-beam, slightly off-center, but high enough to borrow the self tacking sheet from your Solent. Go for INDUCTION STOVE top now, so your Corian will not have to be redone. It does work well for me. Though maybe not for Nick the chef, wanting 3 burners! CampingGas for the barbecue and emergencies. Put in an EMERGENCY AUTOPILOT. I have the Raymarine Wheelpilot, simple, fully autonomous, on my second wheel. Although you are double handing, less vital than for me as a single hander. Have the BOW-SPRIT LIFTABLE. Safer to fix furling jams, saves docking fees. Have hoses for HEATING laid while it is easy (foam filled ducts). Just the hoses for now. Delicate topic: imo, we only need ONE HELM. I know, I have had two for twenty years! It would save space, money, weight. But it implies that you can crane your head above the coach roof when in close quarters. I only dock on one side anyway, easy with a cat, whatever the wind. BON VENT à vous deux, sur deux coques. Noël.
I love this and will have one too :) , but I have 3 questions: 1) Why don´t you have a back rest on the sofa up against the navigation station - I love sitting in the corner of our U sofa. 2) Why this big navigation station in the saloon? - with modern remote control and electronic maps it seems like waste of space ( we never use ours) I sit in the sofa a control everything from the Ipad... and you have 2 excellent helm stations. :) last 3) Why dont you prolong the kitchen table (more storage) - between saloon / cockpit. ( the opening is more than big enough.
Love your videos and thank you so much for sharing! It seems as you won’t be able to sail and having your blinds shut at the same time. Is that true???
Love love this boat, but honestly think one helm would do the job and you would then have much more space in the cockpit. The visibility looks to be so good to all corners of the boat from either helm. I think with the two helms the available cockpit space is pretty small. Thoughts?
Absolute Boat Porn. I am looking forward to living vicariously through your entire build. Good luck and enjoy the once in a lifetime experience.
Cheers. It is super exciting
LOL I couldn’t have said it better myself! 😂
This documentary on the boat build is an absolute masterpiece in marketing for Seawind. And you get a fantastic boat...

Ah thanks so much mate. Kind words
Absolutely can’t wait to watch your beautiful boat come to life.
Smart having cameras on the mast, especially going under bridges.
I think they are low light, so will be good for night watches
And a little peak ahead in uncharted water?
The mast camera would always point down? Or will you get one that can pan and zoom?
Looking forward to watching the build . . .

We lost so much ground due to side slip in the water any way 1530nm took 63 days.
Big fan of the boat. Looking forward to hopefully seeing it at Annapolis one day.
Oh there will definitely be a 1370 at Annapolis
Hull#1 is reserved for the shows, you'll be seeing it there
it a lovely Catamaran, I am sure you will enjoy every minute and nautical mile sailing Ruby Rose II
Nice video guys, I will watch the build but I am not into rich peoples boat videos but I will give them a try.
Splendid video.
How can you wait!! I have my eye on a cat in my budget, however constantly think about the dream of coming into serious money and buying a top cat, but the lead time would kill me!
Fantastic. Can’t wait.
I am really late to the game but really enjoyed your search for your CAT and all
of your commentaries and reviews.
I'd stick a twenty mile exclusion zone around it, especially here in Spain having witnessed the antics of other boat owners in marinas
oh, we will have sharpened boat hooks for those getting too close.
RR2 is a beast !!!!!!
Will check it out mate
Great video. Looking forward to the new build. I am not sure but I think you sound excited by all this. :)
Love the 80's Tron graphics!
Thank you mate. Loving that people are picking up on the homage to 80's sci-fi
Impressive, fantastic spec.
Cheers mate
Ruby Rose 2 is going to be fantastic. I am confident she will bring you much pleasure. Just one little negative. Not keen on the flourescent graphics on the video. Looking forward to seeing the build!
Or the loud music. .???
I can see another reason you've really enjoyed sailing the French coast last season. With RR2 European ports must be esp. challenging and more expensive for a cat.
Good info... thanks
That is one light boat. It will be interesting to see how it behaves in the different sea states. Although that will only affect Nick.
true dat!
Thoughts?
Twin helms means a joy to dock. ALso the helm seats can be used to lounge on, so the space is multi functional
