@That1Dude 44 Sure, keeping it naturally aspirated was THE way to go and i think toyota nailed it, when it first launched i didn't quite like the look but now its slowly grown on me. Also on the youtube channel of toyota gazoo racing they invited the godfather himself Keiichi Tsuchiya to give his impressions on the car which was soooo cool don't u think so?. Now lets talk about the golf, it might be a Hot hatch but the engineers at VW will always treat its steering like a grand tourer (which it is hence the name) making it bit on the numb side, nor do i think they'll get around the problem of understeer by stiffening up the rear coz lets be honest normal people like you and me (or atleast me) might not be able to correct an oversteer in a FWD. Oh and the MX-5, i don't have much if anything to say about it other than it being a damn good RWD car especially suited for touge.
It's weird watching a review of such a great new car, only to read so many comments about how fantastic the video is. Who am I kidding, I was thinking the same thing. Despite the fact that the GR 86 appears to be a real godsend in this day and age, the video itself was what truly shined here. My compliments to everyone involved in making this one happen. Keep up the great work - just don't raise my rates in order to make that happen. (Kudos to Toyota and Subaru for getting this car right.)
This right here. Kudos to Toyota (and I mean TOYOTA and not Subaru, as Subaru obviously deserves credit for the tuning but their styling SUCKS) for getting the GR86 right, looks-wise. I never knew how to feel about any of the Toyobaru triplets....but now I know which one I'd buy.
@@mitchell-wallisforce7859 Considering that it's primarily a Subaru, I'd think that you'd have to credit both. As for myself, I've yet to buy any car with a freakin' infotainment system and don't see myself doing so anytime soon as long as I can still find excellent used vehicles that hold greater appeal to me than today's cars while also perfectly suiting my needs.
I often noticed that even on technical videos they only say things like the new intro is dope.... By the way I think in Europe we will be far away from 30.000.

In my opinion the new 86 is on the same level as the s2000 performance wise, but the s2000 is much more bare bones drivers car. My interest in cars has been waning lately, but watching Jason Cammisa in Hagerty's videos is sparking that enthusiasm back and feels a lot like when I first started watching Top Gear as a kid. Thank you.
With the quality of this review I was shocked it was a straight to RUclips video and not copied from television. This was on the level of Top Gear production.
I am surprised. I thought it is just another review and comparison. The video quality blew me away! Jason teaches you the principle behind the car power train of VW GTi and the ToyoSubbie 86BRZ GT. They talk about grip, traction in an entertaining way. This is edutainment. I love it! Thanks for the video!
These guys are great, love this guys style and knowledge, well written and the cinematography looks great as well. Haven't been this excited about a car show since the first time I saw Top Gear. These guys deserve a studio audience soon.
Your little spot on weight transfer is so excellent. I love that you took time to explain the difference fully, rather than the perennial “front wheel drive cars are worse”
Lol it’s more than just weight transfer, fwd are inherently worse for a multitude of reasons. Maybe you can find them all on RUclips since you don’t know
WOW. The quality of this video, practicality, production, just literally everything, was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. That’s the easiest instant sub of my life.
Jason Camissa and the Hagerty team teach you about cars with humor and with videos full of great editing, photography, and pace. My favorite car review videos.
Jason, I think you just produced the best car review I ever watched. From a guy who watches way too many car reviews according to his wife... great job!
The Integra is being revived, hopefully we get a Icon episode for it in the future. Forget Motortrend, you don't need a subscription service for the best quality content.
I'm contemplating paying for a month of Motortrend just to binge all of the new Mythbusters car segment. I feel like Roadkill has been on a sort of downward spiral ever since the original Hellcat swap into the Charger, in addition to maybe the leafblower turbo Nissan. Roadkill is good for ridiculousness, and I haven't heard very much ridiculousness happening there since they changed to the subscription model.
Jason is by far my favourite motoring journalist from the States, there's just no one close to him. I'd put him first equal with Henry Catchpole as my all time favourites. Both people that appreciate cars for more than numbers in a brochure or fancy badges and both are amazing when it comes to conveying how a car *feels* when you're behind the wheel - is it stiff, smooth, does it roll, how does it balance under vs oversteer, how is the steering, gearbox and pedals and so on - so much more than someone showing off all the little practicalities or giving you headline power and acceleration numbers.
Since the big three went to Amazon and have been putting out, shall we say, non car entertainment, there has been a void. This host gets it. Well done!
This is the first video that I've seen by you guys and my jaw was dropped the entire time! This video deserves way more views and likes. Amazing job, keep up the good work!
Just came across this vid from Hagerty for the first time, and such a fresh take on car review. A lively review, great illustration of dynamic of each car, nice combo of graphics, action shot, and comedy. Overall a great recipe of success. Well done Hagerty & Jason.
Jason has a way of explaining things so comprehensively. And as far as comedy goes he always has memes or fun facts at hand and depending on the production he can fill a review with that. I didn't expect Hagerty to provide him with more freedom than Motor Trend but I don't know the circumstances of that so I can't talk.
All you have to do is watch the intro and just like that you are already subscribed! A fun and interesting way to describe what the whole video is about while still being entertaining. These people are geniuses!

Jason, Hagerty and the crew, thank you for making these videos, you're just doing it the best. And I appreciate cinematic 21:9 ratio, such a joy to watch these. Bravo!
I rented an abarth spider(same chasis, much nicer record monza exhaust sounds😝) in the Canares for 12 days and it fitted: one big sport travel bag(78 or 86 liters, I can't remember), one cabin trolley and two backpacks. In truth, the smaller backpack was behind my headrest and the bigger one at the feet of my fiancee but, we managed to get from the airport and to the airport with all our luggages; and for the rest of our holiday, it was no chore and, in fact, an epic holiday car.
They dropped Jason and Carlos for Jonny Lieberman. I didn't bother renewing my MT On Demand over a year ago and never looked back. Lieberman killed Motor Trend.
@@eduardelric He's at Car and Driver now. I hope he gets a budget to play with. Edmunds didn't have the budget to produce quality videos since they're a really small independent company. I'm glad Hagerty gave Jason the budget to have some fun and make some amazing content. But Motor Trend has the budget but Lieberman sucks. He screams and shout, gives you basic information that he reads from a stat sheet with no passion.

I've watched this a few times since it came out, and his take on the GTI is spot on. I've taken my GTI mk 7.5 to the track twice now, and it feels like something is missing compared to back roads. It lights up back roads, but once the tires slip on the track I need to back off and not ask the front tires to do so much. Hoping to get into a GR86 sooner than later!
I had 2016 FRS for a few years and loved it. I’ve owned my Mk 7.5 for the last couple years now, and as much as I’d like to experience the improvements/fixes made to the 86 platform, you can’t substitute the overall practicality of the GTI, and performance wise, it’s no joke either. A few mods and a tune make it so much more exciting too. I never took my FRS on a track tho, but I drove that car quite crazy around town. I do miss the stupid oversteer I could get on it. I still have loads of fun daily driving my GTI, especially of windy roads and coming out of corners with the fantastic LSD. Both amazing cars, just gotta pick what’s right for you I guess.
Love this new 86! Hanging on to my 944 Turbo as my daily (and only) as long as I can - it’s so fun, practical enough (it’s a hatch!), has all that personality, and still gets looks! A true icon, and undoubtably how the 86 will look and feel in 30 years! Amazingly presented, shot and edited!!!!
We dont like Supra 'cause it's Bmw .. and its design is a.bit messy .. but still impressive and oryginal ... ... GT86 looks nice&clean and probably more sporty than it is in reality ... but looking at them U can see Supra is 'more' of a car ...
Brilliant video, writing, and review! Genuinely the best produced automotive content ever. Total package. And the suggestion that Porsche give away a free 86 to every GT3 buyer!! Too good
Love that 944! Bought my in August. Practical enough with the boot and still pretty fast. But mostly the feeling it gives when driving, amazing! Maybe in after the 944, the GR86 is a good replacement. The concept is just great.
@@layne4376 Everything I've read shows that the 944 does edge the BRZ out a bit in the weight distribution department; but the CG of the BRZ is a little better. Handling, I've read that the two are very close in stock form; with the BRZ having benefit due to it being a bit more advanced from a function/component standpoint with it being a newer design. Of course it brakes better; for the very same reasons.

Dude the production on this one is insane!
@That1Dude 44 shut up. You whine in every comment.
This simply oozes 00s Top Gear production style.
As for the GR86, well, its front reminds me of the stunning Jaguar F type.
Too bad the rear looks like an insignia we had 10 years ago
I think he does them one better.
This was worlds better than top gear.
That is barely faster than a Mazda Miata. Yeah, not so much.
I thought it was really overdone.
@@Nordlicht05 probably depends on the market and exchange rate.
I'd assume it'll slot in at about the same point as a camry v6 or 2L accord which in the states is equal to a mid trim GTI in price.
Haven't looked at euro pricing in a while
@@VirtualGuth I wish Toyota would offer a cheaper version without the giant screen. In my opinion the new 86 is on the same level as the s2000 performance wise, but the s2000 is much more bare bones drivers car. Still, if I only had one of the two I’d still pick GR86 simply because it is much more practical.
This is the first time in a long time that I have rewatched a YT video in the same week! I am captivated by the story telling and educated at the same time about history and the accurate vehicle comparisons. New subscriber here and cannot wait for more Hagerdy content!
And I thought Motortrend's online reviews were tight (before they ditched RUclips)...THIS is what I would consider to be a benchmark for an automotive enthusiast review, with the right amount of humor mixed in. Jason, you have a natrual ability to convey WHAT makes a car feel good to drive, combined with scientific explainations for WHY a car feels good to drive. Bravo to you and your team sir, bravo.
Thank you!
This is the greatest automotive film I've seen this year. Take a bow, Jason.
If I️ wasn’t already a Haggerty customer, I’d become one just for what they are doing with this channel. Whatever you are paying Jason, triple it. I’d gladly pay a few bucks more a year.
Hmmm....how does Hagerty afford to triple Jason's pay when all you do is pay a few bucks more?
I've been watching car channels for like a year just found the best
I'd assume he gets bonuses for doing these well-performing videos
@@kindface well, I️ guess that depends on a few things, like how much they are paying him and how many customers they have.
Reading that last sentence, I thought you were crazy. I looked at your channel and uploads, and yeah - you are crazy LMAO.
This channel's quaity is insane.
The videography in it's every frame is straight out of Hollywood and brings a smile to my face, the "nerd-talk" in between is so well brought across and the and the commentary is really well thought out. Some lines really make you think.
It's insane to be watching this on RUclips for free.
Thank you for this great content. You have a new subscriber!
Hands down one of the best car reviews I’ve seen in the last decade. Jason (and crew) you’re on a roll right now and I hope Hagerty continues to fund you in ALL of your automotive endeavors.
I’m wowed by the quality of this review. Loved the shot of the GTI with the eventual 86 drifting in front of it 🤣
Seriously! That shot was amazing!
thats Humour enough, when GTI staring at 86 who took away his focus,😳😒😩
Can we _please_ take a moment to appreciate that the video editing, camera work and audio mixing are LIT AF?! 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely fantastic work all around!!!
This was absolute perfection. Congrats to everyone that made that video possible, that was incredible.
Outstanding show. I've just watched a half-dozen 86 videos, and yours was by far the most entertaining. Nicely done.
Jason Camissa and the Hagerty team teach you about cars with humor and with videos full of great editing, photography, and pace. My favorite car review videos.
Jason, I think you just produced the best car review I ever watched. From a guy who watches way too many car reviews according to his wife... great job!
Thank you!
@Fatbike Daddy
check the Supra meets M2 on this channel too!
The Integra is being revived, hopefully we get a Icon episode for it in the future.
Forget Motortrend, you don't need a subscription service for the best quality content.
Yea motor trend really went down the tubes
Cant agree nomore
I'm contemplating paying for a month of Motortrend just to binge all of the new Mythbusters car segment. I feel like Roadkill has been on a sort of downward spiral ever since the original Hellcat swap into the Charger, in addition to maybe the leafblower turbo Nissan. Roadkill is good for ridiculousness, and I haven't heard very much ridiculousness happening there since they changed to the subscription model.
I don't know why people don't like ILX, it's awesome. It's basically current Integra.
Jason looks like one of the few journalists actually having a good time.
He's not an industry cuck
Jason is by far my favourite motoring journalist from the States, there's just no one close to him. I'd put him first equal with Henry Catchpole as my all time favourites.
Both people that appreciate cars for more than numbers in a brochure or fancy badges and both are amazing when it comes to conveying how a car *feels* when you're behind the wheel - is it stiff, smooth, does it roll, how does it balance under vs oversteer, how is the steering, gearbox and pedals and so on - so much more than someone showing off all the little practicalities or giving you headline power and acceleration numbers.
Good point
Wow he can drive his ass off! Love the driving shots, they were done so well. This is my new fav car channel
No jokes: this is so informative but yet so much fun to watch.
Love you show guys!
This might be the best produced car video I've ever seen. The angles, long sweeping shots, and editing was fantastic!
GO AND SEE THE ONE ON THE SUPRA AND BMW M2
This show represents the absolute quality top of the RUclips car content as of right now.
This and Carfection are the only two I watch.
@@Peanutdenver Same here ;)
Just came across this vid from Hagerty for the first time, and such a fresh take on car review.
If cringe is fresh then sure.
@@アマ-p2l explaining things incorrectly, fixed it for you.
@@BerserkismDude, leave all of us alone. No one here thinks that he is cringy except the three people that disliked, you included.
Out of the dozens of videos about the GR 86 that popped up on my feed, this was by far the best. Good job, Jason!
That bit from 7:10 to 7:19 was so great I had to rewatch it a couple times. Great video!
Amazing work! It knocked it out of the park! The GR86 designers and engineers must be watching this videos in tears of joys! They are all thinking finally someone loves this car as much as we do!
This was hands down one of the best, most entertaining reviews I’ve seen in quite a long time! Just excellent! This also solidified me wanting a new GR86 now as well! Thumbs up!! 👍
This segment should win some kind of award for excellence in automotive journalism as far as I an concerned. Amazing job, Cammisa and crew!
El dialogo , edición y la estructura general de este video es majestuosa, gran trabajo!!
This is honestly the best car show I've seen, and today is only the first time I discovered this channel
As a 944 S2 owner, this makes me happy
Hey fellow 944 owner, 86 951 here!
A former '87 944 16V coupe owner here. . Fond memories! . A daily driver of ten years ...
Guys you need to front the title with Jason Cammisa or at least have him on the thumbnail. I almost didn't click on this video - glad I did ! Couldnt care less about the GR86 but was thoroughly entertained, good job Jason and the team !
9:29 this could be a commercial for all three manufacturers.. in fact if you watched just this portion it would seem like one. Well done guys. Loved the review!
Jason - Thank you for crediting the 944 for being as great as it is. You're awesome dude.
I nutted after that tribute.
The production quality and execution on this video are nuts. I feel like I’ve stolen something having watched this for free on RUclips.
Outstanding work! Cammisa, Esposito and the rest of the team knocked it our if the park on this one.
And the subtitles!
As a 924s owner- I cannot agree more about this car. Not the fastest, not the most practical, but a helluva blast to own!
Between you guys and Carfection, quality on car videos is getting to a point that is simply unbelievable. Stellar job.
Came here looking for yet another GR86 review. Left here a Hagerty subscriber and a Jason Cammisa fan. I've now watched all the Hagerty videos with him and crew, and they've been top notch across the board. Kudos.
I really enjoyed how you got into how understeer is produced in FWD cars and the physics of why rwd cars grip better off the line. Really well done 👍
The way this is filmed is exactly like a commerical!!!
It makes the car look as cool as possible, it makes you WANT it.
I've watched this video so many times, I love it so much. The production quality is amazing. But I have to say I really appreciate the effort you went to with the subtitles! Anyone who hasn't yet watched this with the subtitles is missing the true scope of the care and wit and excellence of this production. Bravo!!
Jason, Hagerty and the crew, thank you for making these videos, you're just doing it the best. And I appreciate cinematic 21:9 ratio, such a joy to watch these. Bravo!
Jason just kills it, motortrend went down imo when he left.
Btw, I live with a MX-5 RF and you won't believe how much stuff fits in the cargo bay xD.
More like MT went down when Carlos Lago left.
Also they neither have Randy Pobst, no more lap times. Very poor decisions by MT.
Also Andy Pilgrim from R&T no longer does their lap time videos.
The production of this video blew my mind this was insanely informative with comparisons of other cars and information on both, i just loved how well everything was explained , made me love the gr 86 even more just hitting the checks for my liking this car is amazing and i surely cant wait to get my hands on it 😌
I've watched this a few times since it came out, and his take on the GTI is spot on.
From a mile away with the sun shining in your eyes the 86 can be mistaken for the new supra, it looks good
it looks way better than that, the new supra is a mess
We dont like Supra 'cause it's Bmw .. and its design is a.bit messy .. but still impressive and oryginal ...
... GT86 looks nice&clean and probably more sporty than it is in reality ... but looking at them U can see Supra is 'more' of a car ...
@@bukkuk5949 who doesn’t like supra LMFAO? one of the best inline 6 creators and y’all are complaining wow

When Jason was on Motortrend, he would sometimes annoy me, but here he is the greatest. Thanks Jason to you and all around you!
No you're right. He is annoying.
The 944 is a little better than the GR regarding weight distribution and handling; and it has a hatch and more space in the rear.
The opening montage was EPIC!
I've never seen a video from this channel, I'm blown away. The production quality is through the roof.
Literally the best automotive channel, so fucking good
Jason is awesome to listen to. He is so much more entertaining and knowledgeable than Doug, tavarish, Tyler, and Ed put together. Also he is a damn good driver.
So happy I subscribed to this channel
This may be the best, highest-quality review I've ever seen. And that includes Top Gear
I haven't been this enthralled by a car video in ages. Great job to everyone involved.
that 944 cameo made my day oh my god I love whoever wrote that in.
Jason you're by far the best automotive journalist / enthusiast! love your shows, continue the great work always with lots of humour and technical knowledge
One of the best automotive journalists. Period.
I have a Mk5 GTI and now a 2023 GR86 and I love them both equally. They're very different from each other and they both excel in those differences, at least from my personal experience with the two cars. I know the Mk5 doesn't compare to the newer gens, but it honestly aged well.
This. THIS is why I only watch Hagerty episodes with Jason. Bravo.
This is brilliant Jason. These are actual car enthusiast documentaries in my opinion. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good work!
This video was as informative as fun an amazingly well done, and the car sounds really good.
Why am I just finding out about this channel... Feels like I ve been living under a rock! Watching your videos is like watching a 4D movie sitting on my couch. Kudos! Why hasn't any supercar manufacturing company approached you to make their promos yet?!?!?
