Mevagissey looks an interesting harbour, added to our list of places to visit thanks. We did do Polperro in so so conditions, then the wind picked up from the SE, oh boy fun we had getting out of there. 🙄
Yes Mevagissey is definitely worth a visit, a bit a swell comes in though so maybe only good for a night of two! We really wanted to visit Polperro but it looked like similar conditions to what you had, so we changed our minds😅 We did make it to Fowey though, so that will be next weeks episode!
Try the Portmellon anchorage and an incredible point with two houses. Word is one belongs to Piers Brosnan, the other Richard Branson. Pretty (not private) beasch below at Colonna Beach. Best wishes Edward (formerly Brighton Sea shanty non participant)
I guess you know you need to make some changes to your alternator set-up and charge controller, if you have panels. Also LiIPo4 can get damaged if used for engine start.
Thanks for watching! Yes we’ve had a deep dive into all the info available. Will go into it all in the coming episodes, but effectively everything has stayed the same except for adding a Victron Cyrix Li-Ct battery combiner. Controversial and dreading the comment section already😂
Drain the battery fluid out, fill with baking soda/water and soak overnight, scrub any scale off the plates, drain, rinse, refit the battery cap, and refill with battery acid and water mix. Recharge. And there you have it, brand new batteries. ( lots of how-to-do-it videos on RUclips ) Or sell them to a scrap metal yard for a few dollars, and then go and spend thousands on some others.......
Oh wow thanks so much for the info! We didn’t realise you could do this😳 We’ve headed down the lithium route now as we think it’ll give us a bit more flexibility living-aboard…. But will do some research on this as would like to see how it’s done!
Well, lithium batteries also die just as AGM at the hands of normal users. People who are into electric systems manage to keep cheap Lead-Acid batteries for 7-8 years. If AGM die in a couple of years, Lithium will not last much longher. I have also seen other liveaboards have their lithium batteries fail due to various conditions. As Nigel Calder said, batteries do not die, they are murdered. The way to keep them alive for long is to keep them fully charged at all times if possible. Invest those extra 2-3 thousand pounds in bigger and more efficient solar panels and a high potput alternator. I study for the last year electrical systems like crazy as I update our boat spaghetti step by step. Dent’s get me wrong, this is my honest opinion from my knowledge so far. Don't listen to other new boaters(including me), study well what Jeff Cote and Nigel Calder etc. say before doing anything electric and electronic :) Good luck 👋👋
