I've used General Finishes Dye Stain on a few projects and like their stuff. The Dye Stain can be used straight from the can, which is a plus. The flat finish on the cherry tint looks amazing, Chris.
Stearated sandpaper is coated to prevent clogging. However, this coating can leave a residue on the surface which can react poorly with water-based finishes. And it's hard to completely remove.
Thanks for the tip about this product. I've seen flat finishes where they've been rubbed over the years and develope shiny spots. It's nice that this doesn't do that! Btw...the flat red looks awesome!👍😎🎸🎶
Curious as to why you opted for the Flat Out Flat product over the high performance Dead Flat. Flat Out Flat is soft and velvety, yes, but wasn’t created for high use and remains soft, like a wax finish. It is more susceptible to marring and fingerprints. I’d imagine those would be worrisome characteristics for a guitar body, no?
Watched this video because I wanted to finish my guitar in matte black. Bought this product at a Woodsmith store and it's pricey. Prepared guitar then sprayed the finish on the guitar as directed by instructions. Let dry for two days and it looked great. Accidently scraped by fingernail on the surface and there was a white scratch that was very visible. Handled it like I would at a gig and there were white scratches all over it. Seems the product finish dries nicely but is very soft. What can I do?
I wonder how good this will come out with a paint roller.. I have a guitar with a matte finish all scratched up however, in my apartment, spraying would be a mess
I want to us this product over Stew Mac color tone black dye that I’ve mixed with water. Allowed to dry and applied rub n buff wax into the grain and wiped off with teak oil for a cerusing effect. Do you recommend a dealer over this finish before applying flat out flat?
I tried it and the flat out flat rubbed the wax right off. Plan B, cover the wax with a water-based sealer and then try the flat out flat. Do you think the flat out flat will adhere to the sealer?
Hi Chris, for the body did you use a tinted/dyed grain filler, or was it a clear filler? I can see the darker spots where the grain is but I'm wondering if you went out of your way to accentuate those. Thanks!
Hi Question :I have try the Minwax poly acrylic and the varathane water based poly which I like more than Minwax poly acrylic and it is the one I currently use for all my projects, but I was thinking to try the general finish high performance, does it worth the extra money or It is about the same as the varathane
If you were going to do a black body (or any solid color) instead of dye, what type of water-based coating would you use to achieve the color coat before applying flat out flat?
Hey Chris, just followed this method with great results. Thank you. Just wondering how long you wait before assembly? It says a week for light use on the can. Do you reckon I can I assemble earlier than that?
Does it self level as well? I have had difficulty with Brite Tone gloss as far as runs and sags. For clear it can be leveled and polished anyway. Will the matte finish sand to an even appearance? Thanks.
Love this. Finishing stresses me out like everyone else....
Love how you put the music at the end. Looks really nice.

Thanks Chris, will be trying this method.
Great information. Thank you for your time!
Looks awesome Chris.
Looks pretty sweet Chris.
looks amazing but it's expensive. 2:21 it non-sterraid sandpaper? what is this?

Great tip! Nice guitar finish.

I really need to get some good paint equipment! Beautiful!

It didn't exist when I made this video.

You need to contact the manufacturer to find out what went wrong.

I really love the finish on your guitar. Can the items you mentioned be applied by hand, for one who doesn't have the spray equipment?
Yes. However, the results won't be as good.
@@HighlineGuitars Thank you
PERFECT look! Id buy that in a second. Definitely interested in that product (but i wouldnt grain fill) I love grain. 🤘🏻😁

Yes! I would test on scrap first since the rub and buff wax could cause adhesion problems.

@@adamj4505 I don’t know. You’ll have to ask General Finishes.
very interesting thank you for sharing

Great look, what did you use to apply it? Peace

Do you always have to water sand all painted surfaces? Flat or not flat?

Createx.
@@HighlineGuitars Thanks! Amazing colors!
Can you hand apply like crystal lac brite clear,or does it have to be sprayed to get same results?

Yes.
Hey Chris, did you sand after the first coat of Flat out Flat like it says to do on the can?
Yes.
Hey Chis. How does the GF flat out flat compare to the matte finish version of Brite Tone? It looks like the GF would be difficult to beat.
ja rizz brute tone is much harder.
Does it self level as well? I have had difficulty with Brite Tone gloss as far as runs and sags. For clear it can be leveled and polished anyway. Will the matte finish sand to an even appearance? Thanks.
ja rizz I don’t sand it. I spray 10 coats of clear gloss, level it, and spray 3 coats of matte. Then it’s done.
Good information - I'm getting ready to shoot some GF Flat Out Flat today, we'll see how we do...
