- In this video we go over exactly what I am bringing with me to Air Force Basic Military Training. I go over everything I packed and why i chose to pack it, This is my Air Force BMT 2020 Packing List. I I did all my packing with help from the Delayed Entry Program App found on the app store created by Air Force Recruiting.

This is a pretty good packing list. I went to BMT in 2015 and your list is very similar to mine. I spent less money there than the others in my flight. At any rate, welcome to the Force. I’ve been in 6 years and will be commissioning soon as a JAG. Try to enjoy the experience as best as you can. There will be some obstacles but I’m sure they’re nothing you can’t overcome. Congrats and welcome to the family, brother.

They issue you socks so you will only wear those for a few days. Also only important info and hygiene products go in your locker. Everything else including civi clothes get locked in a closet for about the entire time

I ship out next week and was curious if you had an updated packing list ?
Since you’ve completed BMT already and especially with Covid I’m sure you would have more of a recommendation as to what to and what not to pack.
My main concern is the civilian clothes portion.
You mentioned compression shorts; so does that mean I won’t be allowed to use my personal pairs of underwear throughout BMT ?
Honestly I think what I packed worked out very well, when I got to tech school I had family send me way more clothes and additional items like a laptop.
Yes you will be issued underwear but I prefer getting yourself black compression shorts and wearing those instead
I leave for BMT in a month and this video has definitely helped me feel more confident of what I need to bring. However, what about tweezers, scissors or nose hair trimmers and so on...are those allowed or something similar sold over there? Don't want to have crazy bushy eyebrows and a nose that looks like a forest!

Why are the Tums a problem? I’m really hoping on taking some over the counter Flonase to open my breathing passages , why would anti-gas or anything over-the-counter be revoked?

Amazing video… I have a question on studying. Did you use the ASVAB for dummies and youtube or other apps to help you score good on the test at MEPS/METS?
They are both free and you don’t need a subscription for either one
Also look some stuff up on RUclips and apply it to the question you get on these apps
Study more on Mathematics & Arithmetics. Go back to basics. 😉

Sam Roth maybe the first day or 2 it was alright then they assaigned us PT gear eventually and we wore that until we got our uniforms

Do the shirts you have to bring have to be completely plain? Or can they have a designs as long as it's not crazy?
You could wear shorts with designs will just stand out more.
I have 2 phones and a iPad. Should I bring it or leave it at home?
Not so sure about packing aftershave. When I went through basic, aftershave was contraband because of alcohol content.
They didn’t take it away maybe I was lucky, they took the tums and that was about it.
Question: your college transcript is it of classes you have completed or proof of a degree? I do not have a college degree but I have about 52 credits.
Capt JackPal of my completed classes. So pretty much proof of my credits.
You have enough for E-3. You must have completed at least 45 college credits to receive the rank of E-3. So, you have enough and I'd get those transcripts.
Yeah my recruiter told me my job and date could get switched. I really hope I get to keep my AFSC!
Logan McCallum from what I was told everybody is keeping their jobs, just their bmt start date is getting pushed back like 2 weeks because of Covid 19 preparations happening at Lakeland.
My date got pushed back a week and I was told I’ll be doing 14 day quarantine down there

So shirts for regular use. Not for sleeping but the shirt you are aloud to wear on your freetime in tech school. What do I get? All I have are shirts with big logos and I leave next tuesday
Shirts and all other clothes I brought I only wore for the first couple of days then it went into a closet until tech school. When you reach phase 2 in tech school you can wear it whenever you want but in phase 1 only allowed to wear civilian clothes in ur dorm!
Can I bring electric trimmer instead of razor?
Hello Nick! My boyfriend is in the basic training now and still has 25 more days. I am so excited after I heard he would have a long phone call on Thanksgiving day in you another video! But I also want to ask if he can get his phone back and keep it himself then after graduation. I am just curious about every chance I can get to contact with him lol. Thanks!
I know they give a longer phone call on Christmas I’m unsure how long it will be on Thanksgiving. But after graduation he will always be able to contact you and have his phone at tech school.

Did they let you wear your adidas? My recruiter told me if we brought shoes they needed to be just plain black.
I brought plain black shoes but had people in my flight with blue shoes, yellow shoes, red shoes everything lol they did not care at all was your decision

Did they make you throw out the bandaids? Cause I have a whole Tupperware container with like 100 bandaids in it and neosporin as well as moleskins and am wondering if it'll be allowed.
No they actually let me keep them but I guess it could be different based on the MTI
Airman Nick thanks for answering so quickly. I've just finished packing my bag and was just making sure I didn't need to take anything out. What about razors that dont have a detachable blade? Can we bring them on the plane if they are in the original packaging?

Is there a specific sock length/ color type that is required during BMT? Also what type of socks do they issue to you?
They make us wear any type of white socks during DEP. I want to make sure I prepare with the right socks when I pack for BMT. Thank you!
They will issue you white and green socks so you honestly don’t have to worry about packing that. You use white socks in your PT gear, and green socks in your OCPS.
Are you able to carry that bag on the plane ?
Hey, i know that this is from long time ago, but i just have one question. I leave for bmt in a few weeks and the app you mentioned required us to bring travel size shamppo/conditioner and travel size toothbrush/toothpaste. However, is I read the description on the app, it says that we will be issued with these stuffs. So, my question is what if you dont bring these items with you to go bmt??
Check with your recruiter to figure out your first actual "duty day" after you arrive that you'll get uniforms, including underwear, issued to you. That day you'll also go shopping for your toiletries...and they will give you a list of what to get. Don't wear anything, don't bring anything more than it takes you to get to the first day that you'll be issued your Air Force clothing and make that first toiletry purchase. Be prepared to throw away everything else. Actually, they'll put that stuff into a store room and you won't see it again until you leave Basic Training...it's better not to have brought it at all.
What kind of after shave?
Watching this before I leave April 6th. Pretty crazy I'm leaving a year after you. Curious if you got to keep the tums or shaving cream since its aerosol. Im lactose intolerant so I'm expecting a *shitty* experience if I cant bring supplements lmao.

Am I supposed to bring more civilian clothes and hygiene products for when I first get there because of the pandemic? I had a zoom call a few days ago but I forgot the little details of it.
I was told to bring extra clothes because their should be a 14 day quarantine process once I get there. Not sure when your ship date is or if they will still have that going on when you ship out though.
Oh yeah I remember them talking about that now thank you and they also said it was like a 40 pound limit. I think that 2 week quarantine will still be there when I get there because my ship date is on May 26

I can’t find it, but does anyone remember the video Nick did about qualifying for the Marksman Ribbon at BMT? I remember him saying something about how he did the farther targets while laying down, then the larger ones kneeling. I want to rewatch his tips but can’t recall which video of his it was in

Hey man one question: Why do you have two transcript? Because I have one (AA) but I'm finishing my BS (criminal Justice) this semester spring 2021. Do I need both my Transcript for AA and BS.
I have it just incase I needed it at meps and when I got to my first duty station. But one should be enough.

Yes the shaving cream I brought was allowed and they even sell it there

You can honestly pack shorts if you would like I just chose to wear jeans thought it would be better, but for the most part just pack about 3 outfits just incase your in-processing doesn’t go as fast that way you have something to wear. Once you get issued your uniforms all of the stuff you brought will be thrown into storage until you leave.

Would boxer briefs work? Also I have multiple disposable razors is that okay?
I don’t think so they will either make you wear what they supply you with or you have the option of compression shorts. I’m not 100% sure on the disposable razors but I’d like to say you could probably bring them

MellowJello21 you can have both but in all honesty it will be way easier for you to just bring one bag like I showed in the video. Some trainees had a carry on and a checked bag and it was just an extra hassle for them. If your tech school is gonna be like a year long I would bring 2 bags.

Hey Nick, how important is it to get the clipboard? Should I buy one at the BX when I get there?
My MTIs supplied us with them so I never bought it, it’s all personal preference if you need it or not. But you don’t 100% need one you could get by without it.

I believe it is 20 inches. I don’t know for sure but that is around the size.

I heard about the tight whites under wear, When it come to the showering, Are there seperate stalls and a curtain or is everybody in one big room. and do they allow you to keep your compressions on if you do go shower ? Air Force is all together in one big shower. It’s weird at first but you get used to it you’re more concerned with getting yelled at then being naked lol

No, you should be fine.
For clothes, I only brought an extra, or change pair of underwear, socks and t-shirt. I can wear a pair of jeans for 2-3 days worse case without changing. Unless you are arriving on Friday, your first morning you are going to get issued uniforms. Forget your fancy panties, you can't keep them. You WILL WEAR ISSUED underwear, socks and t-shirts plus your uniform, and THEY DONT CARE IF YOU DONT LIKE IT.... (You could find yourself on the next plane out, with any discussion about your NEEDS) Razors... dont bring those fancy 3-4 blade razors and refills, buy the cheap one blade disposables... reason, you have to thoroughly CLEAN EVERY BLADE in your razor.. (easier to clean the one blade design) Forget 'body wash, hair conditioner, after shave. You will need shave cream, deodorant, simple soap, and shampoo..
Oh and bring a normal sized bath towel and wash cloth... You will probably only use it once, as you are issued AIR FORCE towels etc also.

Toiletry kit, phone and charger, a little money, your wallet, your orders, and the clothes on your back. When it comes to packing for basic, less is more. Good fortune to you.

This is laughable.
My recruiter (SSgt Roy Rogers, absolute truth) told me to bring a bare minimum, and nothing I would mind throwing away. I was going to get to Lackland AFB on Friday night, so I'd have to go through the weekend before being issued Air Force clothing and toiletries that Monday. Under his advice, I took the clothes on my back (stuff I didn't mind throwing away), a couple of changes of underwear, and very basic toiletries to wash and shave...the cheapest stuff to get through the weekend, as though I was taking a flight and got laid over in Dallas for a couple of days.
That Monday the Air Force issued me everything they wanted to have and told me what toiletries to buy at the Base Exchange. Every item of clothing they gave me and every item of toiletry had a specific place to go in my locker. Everything is subject to intense inspection, and anything unique in your locker is just bait for problems.
You don't want your own stuff. Don't wear your expensive sneakers. Don't carry a bunch of expensive toiletries. Don't take your own underwear. Be prepared to toss everything you brought within a couple of days, because you're going to get issued or be able to purchase (cheaply) everything you need and want to have. And you don't want to have anything more than you need, because it's all subject to inspection and causing your problems.

They allowed me to use mine that I brought but they will also either supply you with shaving cream or give you the chance to buy some within your first days at bmt.

Lighters are not TSA approved, I don’t think. Also, you’re not allowed to smoke at BMT or anytime you’re in your uniform
