This is a pretty good packing list. I went to BMT in 2015 and your list is very similar to mine. I spent less money there than the others in my flight. At any rate, welcome to the Force. I’ve been in 6 years and will be commissioning soon as a JAG. Try to enjoy the experience as best as you can. There will be some obstacles but I’m sure they’re nothing you can’t overcome. For clothes, I only brought an extra, or change pair of underwear, socks and t-shirt. I can wear a pair of jeans for 2-3 days worse case without changing. Unless you are arriving on Friday, your first morning you are going to get issued uniforms. Forget your fancy panties, you can't keep them. You WILL WEAR ISSUED underwear, socks and t-shirts plus your uniform, and THEY DONT CARE IF YOU DONT LIKE IT.... (You could find yourself on the next plane out, with any discussion about your NEEDS) Razors... dont bring those fancy 3-4 blade razors and refills, buy the cheap one blade disposables... reason, you have to thoroughly CLEAN EVERY BLADE in your razor.. (easier to clean the one blade design) Forget 'body wash, hair conditioner, after shave. You will need shave cream, deodorant, simple soap, and shampoo..
I leave for BMT in a month and this video has definitely helped me feel more confident of what I need to bring. However, what about tweezers, scissors or nose hair trimmers and so on...are those allowed or something similar sold over there? Don't want to have crazy bushy eyebrows and a nose that looks like a forest!

Since you’ve completed BMT already and especially with Covid I’m sure you would have more of a recommendation as to what to and what not to pack. My main concern is the civilian clothes portion. Shirts and all other clothes I brought I only wore for the first couple of days then it went into a closet until tech school. When you reach phase 2 in tech school you can wear it whenever you want but in phase 1 only allowed to wear civilian clothes in ur dorm!

Air Force is all together in one big shower. It’s weird at first but you get used to it you’re more concerned with getting yelled at then being naked lol

Oh yeah I remember them talking about that now thank you and they also said it was like a 40 pound limit. I think that 2 week quarantine will still be there when I get there because my ship date is on May 26

You can honestly pack shorts if you would like I just chose to wear jeans thought it would be better, but for the most part just pack about 3 outfits just incase your in-processing doesn’t go as fast that way you have something to wear. Once you get issued your uniforms all of the stuff you brought will be thrown into storage until you leave.
Question: your college transcript is it of classes you have completed or proof of a degree? I do not have a college degree but I have about 52 credits.
You have enough for E-3. You must have completed at least 45 college credits to receive the rank of E-3. So, you have enough and I'd get those transcripts.

Check with your recruiter to figure out your first actual "duty day" after you arrive that you'll get uniforms, including underwear, issued to you. That day you'll also go shopping for your toiletries...and they will give you a list of what to get. Don't wear anything, don't bring anything more than it takes you to get to the first day that you'll be issued your Air Force clothing and make that first toiletry purchase. Be prepared to throw away everything else. Actually, they'll put that stuff into a store room and you won't see it again until you leave Basic Training...it's better not to have brought it at all.

I know they give a longer phone call on Christmas I’m unsure how long it will be on Thanksgiving. But after graduation he will always be able to contact you and have his phone at tech school.
MellowJello21 you can have both but in all honesty it will be way easier for you to just bring one bag like I showed in the video. Some trainees had a carry on and a checked bag and it was just an extra hassle for them. If your tech school is gonna be like a year long I would bring 2 bags.

Watching this before I leave April 6th. Pretty crazy I'm leaving a year after you. Curious if you got to keep the tums or shaving cream since its aerosol. Im lactose intolerant so I'm expecting a *shitty* experience if I cant bring supplements lmao.
My MTIs supplied us with them so I never bought it, it’s all personal preference if you need it or not. But you don’t 100% need one you could get by without it.
Is there a specific sock length/ color type that is required during BMT? Also what type of socks do they issue to you? They make us wear any type of white socks during DEP. I want to make sure I prepare with the right socks when I pack for BMT. Thank you!
They will issue you white and green socks so you honestly don’t have to worry about packing that. You use white socks in your PT gear, and green socks in your OCPS.
They allowed me to use mine that I brought but they will also either supply you with shaving cream or give you the chance to buy some within your first days at bmt.
This is laughable. My recruiter (SSgt Roy Rogers, absolute truth) told me to bring a bare minimum, and nothing I would mind throwing away. I was going to get to Lackland AFB on Friday night, so I'd have to go through the weekend before being issued Air Force clothing and toiletries that Monday. Under his advice, I took the clothes on my back (stuff I didn't mind throwing away), a couple of changes of underwear, and very basic toiletries to wash and shave...the cheapest stuff to get through the weekend, as though I was taking a flight and got laid over in Dallas for a couple of days. That Monday the Air Force issued me everything they wanted to have and told me what toiletries to buy at the Base Exchange. Every item of clothing they gave me and every item of toiletry had a specific place to go in my locker. Everything is subject to intense inspection, and anything unique in your locker is just bait for problems. You don't want your own stuff. Don't wear your expensive sneakers. Don't carry a bunch of expensive toiletries. Don't take your own underwear. Be prepared to toss everything you brought within a couple of days, because you're going to get issued or be able to purchase (cheaply) everything you need and want to have. And you don't want to have anything more than you need, because it's all subject to inspection and causing your problems.

Glad you enjoyed the vid, they will supply you with scissors and I’m pretty sure if u brought tweezers you would be fine.
Not so sure about packing aftershave. When I went through basic, aftershave was contraband because of alcohol content.
They didn’t take it away maybe I was lucky, they took the tums and that was about it.

You could wear shorts with designs will just stand out more.

MellowJello21 you can have both but in all honesty it will be way easier for you to just bring one bag like I showed in the video. Some trainees had a carry on and a checked bag and it was just an extra hassle for them. If your tech school is gonna be like a year long I would bring 2 bags.

Mr. X I would bring a regular razor with changeable blades. But if your joining the army they have different rules.

I don’t think so they will either make you wear what they supply you with or you have the option of compression shorts. I’m not 100% sure on the disposable razors but I’d like to say you could probably bring them
Watching this before I leave April 6th. Pretty crazy I'm leaving a year after you. Curious if you got to keep the tums or shaving cream since its aerosol. Im lactose intolerant so I'm expecting a *shitty* experience if I cant bring supplements lmao.

My MTIs supplied us with them so I never bought it, it’s all personal preference if you need it or not. But you don’t 100% need one you could get by without it.

They make us wear any type of white socks during DEP. I want to make sure I prepare with the right socks when I pack for BMT. Thank you!
They will issue you white and green socks so you honestly don’t have to worry about packing that. You use white socks in your PT gear, and green socks in your OCPS.

Sam Roth maybe the first day or 2 it was alright then they assaigned us PT gear eventually and we wore that until we got our uniforms

They allowed me to use mine that I brought but they will also either supply you with shaving cream or give you the chance to buy some within your first days at bmt.

This is laughable.
My recruiter (SSgt Roy Rogers, absolute truth) told me to bring a bare minimum, and nothing I would mind throwing away. I was going to get to Lackland AFB on Friday night, so I'd have to go through the weekend before being issued Air Force clothing and toiletries that Monday. Under his advice, I took the clothes on my back (stuff I didn't mind throwing away), a couple of changes of underwear, and very basic toiletries to wash and shave...the cheapest stuff to get through the weekend, as though I was taking a flight and got laid over in Dallas for a couple of days.
That Monday the Air Force issued me everything they wanted to have and told me what toiletries to buy at the Base Exchange. Every item of clothing they gave me and every item of toiletry had a specific place to go in my locker. Everything is subject to intense inspection, and anything unique in your locker is just bait for problems.
You don't want your own stuff. Don't wear your expensive sneakers. Don't carry a bunch of expensive toiletries. Don't take your own underwear. Be prepared to toss everything you brought within a couple of days, because you're going to get issued or be able to purchase (cheaply) everything you need and want to have. And you don't want to have anything more than you need, because it's all subject to inspection and causing your problems.
I wonder if he realized that while in BMT, you're barely even E1. Basically just trash. Ranks don't matter for us until we leave
