- This year we were lucky enough to attend the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta! What a spectacular! In this video we will be walking you through the first day of this event. This year it’s the 49th annual year of the Balloon Fiesta, has grown quite a bit since the first 13 balloons launched in 1972. Today you can expect to see over 500 balloons, with 6 countries participating and 90 special shape balloons. This event brings over 800,000 visitors and takes place this year from October 2nd-10th in Albuquerque, when locals say that the clear blue skies and cold mornings make this the idea flying weather. Another tip for those with kids: Each balloon passes out cards (similar to baseball cards). My kids love to collect them over the years and watch their pile grow!
I have lived in ABQ my entire 48years and it still amazes me. It never gets old. It is spectacular. I use to crew many years ago, there is nothing like getting in a balloon at fiesta!!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!!!.

Grew up in Albuquerque and moved away for college. For years my wife had to listen to me talk about the Balloon Fiesta.Finally about six years ago I took my wife, 80+ year old mother-in-law and her best friend. They were like two little kids running around. It was amazing.

I've been there twice and have recommended this trip to many people. You are on balloon field with the balloons going up all around you. I have family in Albuquerque and the view from their house is beautiful. Because of the pandemic it was a little smaller this year but still totally worth seeing. They also have a museum and a great art fair. The food is wonderful and be sure to buy a book showing all the balloons with the info on country of origin. That is one of my favorite souvenirs. Be sure to check out Old Town for some great silver jewelry and if you have time drive over to Santa Fe for some more great shopping.
