Great memories! I was there in 1992, returned and met my wife in 93, got engaged and rode on a hot air balloon in 94, went back several more times! The south parking lot was the launch area back in 92 - 98. Then they opened the north launch area, and used the south lot for the dry camping.
In 2010, I stayed in the VIP area for $150 a night, now over $250 a night! It was great, and could only stay there 3 nights, as we made reservations in June. 30 amp hook up. Great to ride a mobility scooter to the field. There is no real need to get reservations for the dry camping in the south field. You can get 30 amp electric in the south field - they use generators to power the RV's back in 2010, don't know if they put in a service by now.
Bus to the main field can be a long wait when everyone wants to leave the night events, or wants to ride to the morning events, while a lot of cars are trying to get into the parking areas along with the bus service. I normally rode my bike when I was younger, and locked it up to a fence. If you volunteer, you can typically get your pilot to give you a pass to get onto the field for free. Or meet up with your pilot, and ride in with them. Some pilots use the north entrance, others the south entrance.
When there with the Escapees Club one year, a event was to go to the County Line Restaurant one night. Usually 1-3 events will get rain or to much wind, but one year they did every event that time! Yes be ready for 40F in the morning and 60- 65 in the afternoon!
Balloon float because the 70,000 cubic feet of air inside is "Lighter" than the cold air outside the balloon. The hot air inside is normally 175 - 200F, but the pilot likes to keep it below 195, if possible, so the fabric lasts longer.
It's a lot of fun to help a crew! I just walked around and found someone who was great!

Great overview of the balloon fiesta! I stayed in the South RV Lot with the Xscapers group. This was my first ABQ balloon fiesta and my first boondocking experience. The fiesta was AMAZING! It was almost sensory overload with all the colors and sounds, etc. But, I loved it. I didn't make it to the museum, but I like your idea of arriving early and visiting the museum before the crowds arrive. Thanks for sharing your experience, and I am really looking forward to part 2.

Three days(Monday to Thursday)was enough for us. The South campground/lot was great because the balloons fly right over it. It was only $40 a day with a three day minimum. We also went to the Northernmost bluff parking lot to overlook the launch field a couple times. It was $20 . We went up to Santa Fe and some other places like Los Cerrillos and Madrid on the way to Sandia Crest (10,600 ft) that overlooks Albuquerque as well as views far to the East. Thanks for the great video.

Have followed you guys for two years, your videos helped us make a ton of decisions when we bought our RV. We live in Albuquerque and a couple of things to note about Balloon Fiesta are, it is the largest in the world. Some years there are over 900 balloons (Covid put a little damper on that this year) AND it is the only or one of just a few fiestas that allow people on the field with the balloons. Once you've been among them watching them take off nothing else can compare.

We were there with an organized RV tour company. Had a great time. Yes typical rally parking, but we had enough room for our slides and awning. we felt like ants waling through the rows of balloons on the field, and the evening glow was breathtaking. Overall, I think using a tour company, while more expensive, was worth it. We had 30Amp power and water, they fed us pretty well and had socials every evening. It's a must see (on your own or with a group)

Fiesta is awesome! It’s always the first two weekends in October. This year, 2021, the weather was perfect. Layers are the key. If you are interested in being on a crew you can be a volunteer for one. I crewed for five plus years. New Mexico is a beautiful state. Albuquerque is in between mountains and volcanos. Santa Fe is 45 minutes North of Albuquerque. We are pretty much a day state. Beautiful places to hick, fish and camp. Great shopping and restaurants. Rainbow Riders I do not ,at all, recommend. Fiesta is a lot of fun. We have wonderful Pueblo’s too. For those that like to gamble. We have you covered. Costco, Sams Club and Total Wine are minutes away. Albuquerque is a small town with a Big attitude. Can’t wait for you to come and visit.

Hi! My husband and I were in the south lot. It was $50.00 a night. We Loved staying there. Yes, the north lot would have been good, but the south lot didn’t disappoint. We had balloons flying and landing all around us! The day the cow had the flag for the national Anthem, it landed right in our field. So big! So cool! So, if you can’t get to the north lot, don’t worry, you’ll have a great experience in the south lot, too. There are shuttles running often to take you to the field, too, run by locals with interesting stories. I asked one why it smelled like cupcakes cooking? Because of the General Mills cereal factory close by. I’m sure that’s why the Big Blue Baby Monster balloon landed near it!

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  3 года назад

We are glad to hear you had a good experience. The cereal factory fact is pretty cool you learn something new every day. You never know what you’re going to find out when talking to locals that’s what makes travel so fun.

    Great informative vlog guys!
Born and raised here so this years Fiesta was probably #40 for me or so, I lost count....
Anyhow I never knew half of the info about RVing so lots of good info and yes it is a early bird type of event, this year on day 1 we were up at 3am to get ready and out the door at 4, to catch a park and ride bus, some motivation needed and is well worth it to see in person.
Locally here we get to watch it on TV...
Looking forward to the 2nd vlog!!!

This is the warmest most near perfect year you showed up for this Fiesta. I was at the park on the Southside of the Fiesta just over the arroyo u cruised past earlier in this vlog. It was really nice not to b in the crowd, but cold to b so far from the balloons. Yup. You have to leave ur house/ hotels around 345 a.m. is to get decent parking. Waiting in line takes hours of waiting in the cold. RVING I think works best during this event. I'm a local here
