your point on intuition vs a plan is something I never thought of. these top player coaching sessions have been super helpful for me as a viewer

God damb. You work so, so hard for every one of these youtube subs. You're producing a crazy amount of really high end content to have less than 7k.

Ibdw im a marth player (srry) but your view of the game really resonates with me.
I don’t get the whole focus on micro. I almost never see the same situation occur in the exact same way twice (at least vs a decent player). There’s always some little thing or difference that puts a spoke in the wheel.
I really like your whole “risk reward” theory/style. It’s much more applicable to the game melee itself than studying micro.
And this isn’t to diss micro focused players. Some people can learn and apply things that way (I think Zain learns this way). I myself just can’t wrap my brain around that theory. Cody’s style just makes more sense to me

I complained like a sissy about the tech in place, that trick helped SO MUCH! Thanks a ton!

Hey Cody! At 33:44 covering DJ back with anything but knee is too risky at such low % (SDI up and away will setup a side-b or up-b back to ledge which ALMOST always beats out Falcon's recovery and sets up for a free edge guard) so Falcons are pretty weary to go for it unless they have a massive lead or super hard read. I remember N0ne hit you with the DJ read into knee at SSC 2019, but if you had picked any other option there he would've been toast! @6:45
Thanks for the video. Keep it up bud, you're the man

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't reacting to something before it happens called a read? For instance, if I know that my opponent is going to roll in so I charge f-smash. I'm reading his habit based on his previous actions. But if I wait for the roll animation, then I am reacting to his option

Charging the fsmash is a hard read on the roll in where you are fully committed and will be punished if they choose another option. I think he is talking more about soft reads, where you do something like a shffl aerial in place at the timing you predict they will roll. If they pick another option like hold shield, wavedash/roll away or jump you will have time to escape a punish, if you did it right.
That's in a neutral context. One example in the video was noticing your opponent has missed a tech while you are already committed to upairing the spot where they landed. In that case you know the upair will hit so you can immediately dash forward for the next followup.

these lessons are abit too catered to high level, have you considered doing more nuanced move applications similar to Gingers video format but for fox?
