Regina, I did it! I followed your steps and took the measurements you gave me and built my wall and it looks fantastic. Best thing I ever made in my life. My neighbour saw it cuz I was making so much noise and loved it and I sent pics to my friends and none of them could believe I did it by myself. Again thank you so much for providing the steps and the measurements. You are a god send.

Thank you Myrtle!! Honestly, I was very intimidated by this project but once I tackled/finished it, I vowed to help others be successful in achieving it. It still looks fabulous 😊 I just love it.

Thank you for the kind words Charlene!! That's the goal of this channel - to simplify the complicated. I'm so glad you found this video; feel free to share it! I appreciate you 😊😊
This is a great tutorial. My wall is 177in wide and 108in tall, I guess I am tripped on how many vertical pieces I should do. Your wall was 60 inches less, which is 5 feet less and you did 6, Should I do 10-12 or would that be too many?
Thank you Marisela! 10 or 12 or any other number will look a-ma-zing. Trust me. The most important step for me was creating the cardboard templates. I HIGHLY recommend you do that and stick them to the wall for a good visual. And don't worry about them being perfectly square; I've seen some very beautiful walls with rectangles of all sizes. Thank you for watching and reaching out 😊. Good luck!!
That was an awesome job. Been researching this for am minute (working on redoing our office space). I noticed that it looked like you have a textured wall. I've been debating this for a while: Use a sander to smooth down the wall OR but up the board and batten as is? When you have time, would you share your thoughts on each option?
Thank you! No, it's not a textured wall. I simply attached the boards directly to my wall (painted drywall). If you have a plaster type wall with swirls or some other texture, I'd consider sanding it if possible. I think a board and batten wall should be a consistent texture, but that's just my opinion and preference. I hope that helps 😊
@@diymakescents160 - That definitely helps. I was wondering how much it would affect the look. I know it's going to take more time, but I'll move forward with sanding the walls and then implementing the board and batten (with some LED lights). 😉
@@diymakescents160 - Thank you. Working on the design and logistics of it. Would love to have it done before Christmas (and after I've put up my wife's floating shelves in the kitchen).
Question... did you round down when measuring height and width of your wall? Or was it exactly 117 inches? I wish my wall had such pretty numbers lol. Mine is 151 and 5/8s
Hey Kalia! I would bring the side boards in so the wall measures 151 inches even; they'd be a tiny gap on each side, but trust me, nobody would even notice. I recommend basing your measurements off 151in and go from there.
Okay in the beginning of the video you talked about multiplying 2.5 × 6 because you knew how many battons you would need. For a beginner like my wife, how did you know you would need 6 battons because you don't explain that in your video. How you came up with the number 6. Please explain
The portion of the video where I'm in the basement, that's where I explain how I came up with 6 battens. I'm a very visual person, so I cut out pieces of cardboard (the width of the battens I knew I would use), put tape on the back and started sticking them up on the wall until I got the spacing I wanted. The basement portion of the video is a recreation of that initial process. I hope that helps.
In other words how did you know the battens would take up 15 inches of space. In your math explanation, you don't explain how you came up with 6 battens
2.5 (the width of each batten), multiplied by 6 (the number of battens) is 15. This was clearly explained in the video on the "Vertical Batten" slide. I hope that helps!
This is the best video EVER! I absolutely subscribed to you. The way you teach and take it slow and explain everything and have the pages showing how the math works, is what I needed to get this started. I have been so worried I would mess up the wall. This was wonderful! Thank you so much!❤️
Gm Ms Regina I'm trying to start my project also my living room and dining room are all one wall with a little wall divided them so we're going to do both the same pattern..But it's a LOT OF WALL 😟 has anyone sent you any pictures of different pattern that might help us and how they did it?....my walls...liv/dining from ceiling to baseboard 104 in..living front door to divided wall is 225 in wide...and dining is 164 in wide from divided to the back need help 😊
I saw your message 😊 No, no one has sent me any other patterns. I prefer a square, rectangle or even straight lines. If you are interested in a different style, this may not be the video for you. Best of luck to you David!
But you can Jonathan! You'll find great comfort once you've completed the grid - that means the worst part (the measurements) is behind you. Trust me, if i can do it so can you 😊
The beautiful part about this type of accent wall is that they don't have to be. If you conducted the hack I created, with the cardboard cutouts, you will get a good visual of how it would turn out. Rectangles look just as good as squares do 😊
This video is fantastic. I’m a math person and I would have done the calculations the same way. I was goin to ask my contractor to do it but now I want to do it myself. I can’t wait! Thank you!
Yolanda, don't worry - I gotchu! Instead of going with these exact measurements, I would go with 149 x 101.5...just remove that 1/4 inch from the math. But don't forget about it. Regarding the width, split the 1/4 in half so instead of your boards touching the corners of your wall, there'll be 1/8 inch gap on either side - which won't be noticeable at all. Regarding the height, I'd hide the extra space at the top of the wall. Meaning the full 1/4 inch gap will be at the top; again it won't be as noticeable. This is what I would do. I hope this makes sense 😊
Hey Brie, thank you Boo! You could totally remove this; you'll just need a 1) metal scraper to pop the boards/ remove the glue and 2) everything else you'll need to repair drywall - joint compound, sander, etc. It'll take some time and effort but totally doable 💯
I appreciate the math, but the biggest takeaway was seeing the actual MDF board in the store. I wasn't sure, if people were buying large sheets like plywood and ripping them down, or what. I did this in one of my bathrooms (to experiment) and I used 1x2s. I hated it. It is taking so much time to make the paint smooth because of the nature of the wood including flaws from the mill. You could either use drywall screws or a panel board nail - they have ridges that prevent them from pushing back out. If you go with nails, you'd want to use a nail punch as well.
Great video, and the fact that you actually take time out to respond to people is fantastic. Tia Maria, you got this one!!! The MOST IMPORTANT step for me was to draw the outline on the wall first; it guarantees you've got the measurements correct first without damaging/wasting product. Download or save the video so you can easily refer back to it. Thank you so much!!
I can’t wait to do this to my future home. I get the keys soon 🎉🎉🎉. I’m still contemplating what colour to paint… this will be in the bedroom 😅
This wall would look amazing in a bedroom! I highly recommend downloading this video so you don't have to look for it or keep replaying it again. Best of luck Vanessa!!
