I love how every body is here right before Thanksgiving 😅
And again🤣
Haha!
😂😂😂
Life is to be shared, Chef has helped me up my game in my kitchen.
My mom used to make candied yams when I was a kid but she never actually taught me how to make them. Thank you for showing me this!
My hubby followed this recipe for thanksgiving and EVERYONE raves about it all night long. Thank you so much
Yes! I did your recipe yesterday, and I can call myself a chef haha, tonight is the night everybody tastes our candied yams. Thank you!!!!
Thanksgiving is in two days , it’s my first time doin thanksgiving and this recipe is what I needed !
They will absolutely love it and want you to make the candied sweet potatoes or yams each year.
I come from the future, Thanksgiving is in 2 days again! in 2022 now. My question to you now is, Are you going to make it again ?
Your recipe looks the best, so far. Will definitely try making it. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t throw away that juicy syrup from the candied sweet potatoes. We make waffles the next morning and pour it on them. Yum yum
Yes, you're so right. You can see when he turns his off they are hard boiling and have been. This syrup will be amazing.
I know this is a year later but I'm trying his recipe this year for Thanksgiving and I never even noticed he drained them off. I'm so glad I saw your comment lol ty
THIS is the best recipe...it was simple to follow and I impressed everyone THANKS CHEF 😁
Seen some great recipes ... this is one of the best so far. Doing this for Thanksgiving ... first time making it with marshmallows ❗👍🏽
Me too!! And I’m gonna add some pecans 😆 hope your dish is amazing
I don't know anyone who hasn't used marshmallows ever. If you don't have marshmallows you can also use the kid's peeps out of their Easter basket or Christmas stocking, lol. We've had to improvise many times and they work the same. Pecans or walnuts are both amazing in this recipe.
💥👏🎉🥇👍🤤😋WOW! I'm so glad I went with his recipe. CANDIED YAMS WERE A HIT!!! Made it for Thanksgiving. Everyone kept complimenting me on the yams, my family couldn't get enough. Only regret is not making enough, dish scraped empty. We are a Mexican, Puerto Rican family, my mom is a great cook and she gave me the biggest compliment. Even my dad yelled out, "Dang, these yams are GOOOOD! I taste the nutmeg". My brothers words, "these are BOMB!" Thank you soooo much for sharing this recipe. Much Love - from LA
I appreciate the editing I appreciate not wasting my time with small details like peeling or measuring every little thing keep cooking keep sharing
Tried this recipe a few times, never having tasted or attempted to make the recipe before ever, ITS SO GOOD! Making it for Thanksgiving this year :)
Thank you for your tips, first time making candied yams and out of all the videos, I decided to go with yours 🙏🏾
thank you soo much for this recipe! my first time making this and my family loved it ❤️
🙂🙃
Well, It's now December 2023!
2 years after this recipe was posted! And I'm glad I found it so easily!
I've always made sweet potato casserole out of the cans.

I know! I know! 🤦 I should be ashamed of myself! LoL
BUT I'm a 50 year old woman, here to learn how to do it the right way, and get in some practice before Christmas!
🥰🎄😍
My family adds marshmallows too! I’m going to try to make it like this! I’ve made them before but I need a new recipe just to try ❤️
I'm going Live the day before Thanksgiving to walk everyone through the process. This is one of the dishes that I will be cooking. I'll put the shopping list out next week.
This looks amazing omg 🔥
Mr. Chef!!! This dish is the best!!
Yum another recipe I will do this Thanksgiving!
Made this two years ago and it was so good! Ima do it again this year:)!
I'm doing a LIVE next Tues., Weds., & Thurs. Helping everyone prepare. Come and join me. The shopping list and Prep list is in the community tab. Thank you.
I really under estimated how much time this would take…. Here thanksgiving morning!
Would’ve loved to see some dished up at the end 🙂
Making this today for a Friendsgiving! Thank you for the recipe. I’ve never made this before but was assigned the task lol after watching this, I feel confident it’ll be good. ❤️
You got this. Just tell your family to subscribe to the channel.
@@YESChefCreates The potatoes were a hit. one of my friends asked for the recipe and I directed them to you!
@@kittygrowl839 each one teach one. Tell them hit the like button too 😂😂😂😂😂 thank you
Thank you for this recipe! I always wondered how people made this without the marshmallows melting. Do the marshmallows not melt after sitting out for a while?? I really want to try this.
A little while its cooling down.
Great video bro. Keep slayin it fam!
I make mine in the oven every single year and have never not had candied sweet potatoes or candied yams. I use the same recipe, the main thing you don't want to do is to use too much water as they make their own. As long as you layer your Potatoes and your sugar's and stir in your vanilla & spices, then add a block of butter to the top, you'll never be boiling your potatoes in the oven. Once they are done, I then add the mini marshmallows on top and put them under the broiler until they have actually browned, just as you would when making S'mores. Unfortunately most people use too much water or leave the juice in the canned variety and this is what causes the potatoes to boil. If you have no water in them it's impossible to boil them in the oven. You can also use your oven in the air setting and they also turn out better than any on the stove top.
I make mine in the oven as well and they always come out awesome
This is dabomb! 💣
Great recipe - appreciated!
About to make mine ... first time❗👍🏽
I like your method I might try this 😉 thanks
looks delicious thanks for sharing
Thank you
👍😊
I love your channel. Your style of cooking and direction calm cool and collected. I'm making these candied yams this Thanksgiving. Have a delicious thanksgiving to you and your family!
Very informative!!
Thank you
Looks delicious, how long and what temperature did you put the yams in the oven after putting the marshmallows?
Do 350 and do not leave cause it browns fast.
Looks delicious. I’m going to make this. Did you poor everything from the pot into the baking dish or did you drain some of the liquid?
So there will be alot of liquid. It will thicken up at some point. But if you are serving it right away once you melt the marshmallows take a big spoon full out and begin scooping the juice out. Thank you for watching.
@@YESChefCreates thank you! I’m sure everyone will love these tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!🦃
I keep burning mine to the bottom of the pan :/ Are you on the lowest heat or like around 3 from the start? Do you just need to make sure the water barely covers the bottom of the pot?
😎
That looks sOOO gOOD...
Hi! How long do you pop them in the oven for with the marshmallows, and do you set it at broil?
It doesn't matter what you set it to, just don't walk away from the stove. It literally takes seconds to burn.
@@YESChefCreates thank you so much for your reply
I'm making it now
Istg if I fail this, I fail my southern roots
Im from New Orleans and I notice that there’s something we do the same way. Ain’t no such thing as a measurement. You gotta taste it to know when there’s enough seasoning 😂
"I'll try to give you a recipe, but this is mostly off taste"
That's a given in my kitchen. I have no idea how much seasoning and stuff I put into things... we just add and taste. Ain't that the right way?😊

Sorry Chef I had canned yams already in the cupboard so I started with those.
I wish you were more specific on brown sugar, have no idea if it is a cup or more and I am making it tomorrow.
Just get some brown sugar and layer it. YOU CAN NOT MESS THIS STEP UP! It's just sugar. Start with 4 cups and just layer. I warned that it's according to your taste. Once you do this one time you're good. Relax you got this.
Im back again this year 😂 its finna be another hit 🤤 last year i stirred my potatoes too much and made a accidental 🔥casserole 🤭 this year this finna be the yams thooo lol Thanks brother for the recipe 💯 my family loved it♥️
So I'll be using canned yams but definitely going to do your from scratch recipe next year... but I'm curious on what temperature the oven should be to put the layer of marshmallows on and melt them on my already cooked, canned yams? I'm guessing 350, middle rack, 15-20 minutes? 🤔
No about 15 to 20 seconds on 350
Salted or unsalted butter?
Ok. I am holdin my head in shame. A tear drop runs down my face. But I have a question. Why dont folks who make candied yams boil the sweet potatos adente first then bake? That is how they used to do it back in day.
Why boil out the flavor??? At that point you might as well go buy canned sweet potatoes. Plus they candy up better from raw. We have to move on from the ways we were taught with some things.
U tough king !!!
I’m back again 🍻 2023
Welcome back.
Help! Didn't have a chance to cook them on Thanksgiving so prepping my yams now. But every time I make them the marshmallows usually melt instead of browning!?
How is that? Did you let the yams cool off first?
Yeah I watched the rest of your video 😆... Turned out very well, thank u!
We don't measure much in south.. Recipes handed down thru agrs
Damn the rolled over
Damn they just rolled
Will try. Don't have mms.
Omg I have the can
You stil have time to change your ways 😂😂😂😂
Gotta eat that on camera
salted or unsalted butter?
Unsalted
hi! so i think the pot that i used might have been a little wide not allowing the glaze to fully come to the top of the yams. should i try to find a more compact pot or should i use more water ?
cuz some of my yams also got burnt to the pot
Yes use more water. I've done it before too. Don't beat yourself up. Also what kid of pot was it?
@@YESChefCreates a large pot
i’m gonna use a medium this time! thank you so much :)
What is “low low” :/
Why not boil them a bit so they'll cut easier?
Because you loose flavor and the ability to allow them to get candied. At that point you might as well use canned sweet potatoes and that is No Bueno
Come on man put the butter already sheesh , the butter goes 1st with the ingredients bro
Y'all kill me
Why is everyone in Amerifa so fat when they eat healthy food like this?
Is no one aware that yams and sweet potatoes are totally different vegetables....................................... isn't this candied sweet potatoes?????
Shhhhhhhhhh. Lol. We don't tell all..
In the United States, the terms “yam” and “sweet potato” are used interchangeably, but they are completely different vegetables. Yams are starchy and have a rough, brown exterior. They can grow up to 45 feet long and are eaten in parts of Latin America, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia. Sweet potatoes are a New World root vegetable, have a softer, reddish skin, a creamier interior, and often, a darker interior. Most American supermarkets are selling you sweet potatoes, not yams
@@rayfulton7072 no, they are not either. That's just something lazy people do. I know the difference, hence the statement: is no one aware that yams and sweet potatoes are completely different........................ if you're serving candied sweet potatoes, then say it, don't just say it wrong and just lazily say, ahhhhh that's how we say it.
@@jameshannah3433 calm down Karen it ain’t that serious. There’s actually history behind why we call em yams, if you looked it up you’d know…the African slaves started calling soft sweet potatoes yams to differentiate them between the “firm” sweet potatoes….simply because the soft variety reminded them of the African yams. Every single person who calls them yams know they’re sweet potatoes…kinda have to if you wanna buy em at the grocery store as that’s how they’re labeled in the produce section.
@@jameshutchens1303 but how does that even begin to make sense, because of the higher starch content, yams are firmer than sweet potatoes........................ so how the hell would the soft sweet potatoes remind them of yams???
U didnt even cut it for us to see! Thumbs down, its not about looks , its about taste!!
Nice recipe. But a bit too much talking
To long winded.
So don't watch, and it's TOO.
