    Girl! I was natural for 7 years. My hair was long. Healthy. Got compliments. This was before natural was a thing. I relaxed my hair and it fell tf out. I was ill. I went back natural and my hair is back to what it was before. Your hair is beautiful. ❤

      @@BlackGirlLovesAnime6I’m with you! Though i was fighting to get it past my mid back when relaxed. I’m now well pass that natural. I was the main person swearing I’d NEVER go natural but 7 yrs ago (I’m going on 8) i used Affirm perm, the professional one, i never had problems in the past.. well i still feel they changed the type of lye they used bcse within months my hair broke off up to my shoulders. I went to my beautician and chopped it all off while she was doing someone’s hair! 😂😂😂 i was angry and over it. I got a braided bob and went natural… i can say i love the results! ❤

      For 19 years I was natural. Then got a relaxer up to 21. My hair broke off, was raggedy at the ends and around the edges and was lackluster. It also changed my texture to a coarser texture. It was stiff and lifeless hair. My mother was right, I don't need a perm! But I just had to do what all the other girls were doing. I had to know what I was missing.....nothing. It was more work with a relaxer than without! Imagine my surprise!
      I let the relaxer grow out. So from 21 to now 42 I've been relaxer free and that's most of my life. Honestly, my hair is the longest it's ever been and healthiest. Recently for some reason it's gotten thicker!
      Here's what I learned: All women are beautiful. When black women wear their natural beauty, dress up their natural bodies without covering it up with relaxers, wigs, weaves, lashes, and fake nails, it's just a stunning display of what God and your ancestors gave you. It turns heads. You can't stop looking at the beauty, whether long, short, grey or natural blonde. No one paints over a rose. No one puts fake petals on a tulip. The beauty is in the natural.
      But the world has gotten to this place where being OVER MADE UP, overly painted is super coveted. And don't get me wrong, it looks good, but what does the canvas look like underneath all the paint, bells and whistles? Even if the canvas is perfect, what are you hiding from?

    You need to do 2 things every 1-2weeks: 1. Use Olaplex or Redken Bond treatment to repair the broken bonds from chemical treatments. 2. Protein to strengthen the hair from the breakage.

    • @likefanta2049
      @likefanta2049 Год назад +24

      There's also such a thing as protein overload. I actually think it's better to do protein once a month then maybe 3 times a month. Every wash day you should do a moisture treatment. After a Relaxer, your next wash day you should do an olaplex treatment. Just my personal experience though

    • @likefanta2049

      Sorry NOT protein 3 times a month!! I mean once every 3 months haha

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 Год назад

      @@likefanta2049depends on the strength of the protein product. I use Aphogee. I can use the green tea restructurizer daily, the 2 minute every 2 weeks and the 2 step evety 4 to 6 weeks but i have ultra-fine and fragile haur due to being a Thalessemia carrier and oxidative stress. My best friend had coarse hair and cannot use any of these products. Her hair rarely breaks no matter how badly she treated it.

    • @AndSoWeLaughed
      @AndSoWeLaughed Год назад +2

      Doing BOTH of these every 1 - 2 weeks (which is wild on its own) is going to make her already fragile hair extremely brittle and break off further before it even does any good to strengthen her hair. I know this because my hair broke off when it was natural because the girlies online were saying, "Rice water! protein! this that and the other!"

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 Год назад +2

      If your hair is not weak, breaking or damaged you don't need Olaplex or Protein treatments. My hair is weak, ultra-fine, high porosity and bleached. Here is my routine for once a week treatment:
      Week 1 strong protein treatment and protein free deep conditioner.
      Week 2 Olaplex full home treatment
      Week 3 protein free- deep conditioner only with olaplex no. 3.
      Week 4 medium protein deep conditioner with olaplex 3
      Week 5 protein-free deep conditioner with Olaplex 3.
      Week 6 Olaplex Salon treatment.
      Week 7 restart week 1.
      You do not need this routine if your hair is not weak, ultra-fine, high porosity or chemically damaged. I had heat damage and i only use Olaplex no. 3 once every 6 weeks. That was enough to stop my hair breaking. Now I have bleached highlights I need the Olaplex no. 3 every week as recommended by my stylist. If you have coarse, low porosity, non-chemically treated hair please stay away from protein and bond builders because this type of hair naturally has enough protein and bonds on it. Relaxer, dye and bleach break the bonds and strips the protein and lifts the cuticles. If you have no chemicals in your hair and it's breaking focus on diet, low manipulation and moisturing protein-free deep conditioner weekly. If your hair isn't broken don't try to fix it.

    One thing I would say about retaining length. Go to the salon. When I used to relax my hair myself I would relax it every 3 months. When I started going to the salon I would twice a year.
    The back breaking may be because you left the relaxer on longer in some areas more than others. Going to the salon can get an equal and even distribution of the relaxer.
    Good luck girl

    I think the thing we look for in hair can be convenience and simple maintenance but the harsh truth and reality for us woman of colour is that no matter if your hair is relaxed or natural it will still require a lot of work. Relaxed hair need retouch ups, bond treatments and protein strengtheners to keep it healthy. While ,natural hair needs protective stlyes, wash routines, prepoo and etc to maintain it too. You just have to find what works best for you and which lifestyle you're willing to commit to because either is simple. They require work and structure but you got this!

    Because a relaxer has to break bonds it naturally makes the hair cuticle thinner. Have you thought about doing a texture smoothing system (amino acid treatment) instead? My sister uses Avlon texture release in place of a relaxer and keeps her hair straight 100% of the time. Her hair is thicker now than it was with the relaxer because the system doesn't break any bonds. I also use the system at the lowest setting for curly hair and it helps with tangling. BTW your hair and the cut look amazing!

    I am in the same boat. Relaxed for ease - it was not easier. Felt horrible no matter what, wasn't even fully straight and I couldn't even twist or braid it for convenience because the straight- ish ends would cause my hair to unravel. It was so dry only glycerin would help, but if I used heat it was rock hard again. Plus breakage. I learned that its full, soft and fluffy 4c always for me so I shaved my head and its crazy how in love with my texture and future styling possibilities I am now. There is no such thing as " healthy relaxed" hair.
      That's an oxymoron, i.e. a contradiction in terms.
      In order for the relaxer to work, it has to break the bonds, i.e., permanently damage/weaken the hair, which is not healthy.
      Natural hair can be damaged, just like the body, if it is not properly taken care of.
      No one has ever said that natural hair can't be damaged, but natural damaged hair doesn't seep lye (the main ingredient in relaxers) into the pores of a person.
      I agree that a person has the right to choose what they want or not want without being shamed.
      However, I feel that truthful facts need to be addressed also.

    I think the biggest mistake you made with this…is not with getting a relaxer per say, but you should have went to a professional and got your relaxer done. I’m not sure if this was your first ever relaxer, but if it was you definitely needed to have a professional apply it and not do yourself. I’m also wondering what was the strength of the relaxer you put on your hair because it was bone straight, it’s not supposed to be like that. A little texture in the hair is supposed to be left, relaxing the curls. Going to a professional…they could have given you lots of tips to keep it healthy without the breakage and also used the correct relaxer for your hair type. I still think it could work out for you with keeping your relaxer you just need to find a professional beautician that can give you the tips to keep your hair as healthy as possible with one. I personally wouldn’t give up so easily, but I totally understand your feelings right now and at the end of the day it’s your choice ❤ Either way natural, relaxed, your hair looks so amazing 🥰

I used to cut my own hair and what i would do is split it down the middle, and bring it over my shoulders like you did and cut it across. Then i would comb it all to the back and put it in a low ponytail, then slide another scrunchie close to the end, and i would cut the “tail” part. That would always result in it being a subtle u shape instead of a v shape.

    Hi girl. I wanted to ask u what your protein usage is like currently. I am not relaxed but i am very high porosity so i tend to follow a lot of relaxed ladies bc my hair functions similarly. Most relaxed ladies are incorporating protein and deep conditioning with heat nearly every wash to ensure no breakage…i do it with my natural hair and it’s a game changer.
    Also, get your hair professionally trimmed. 😂

    You just need a regimen of protein to help strengthen some of the bonds in your hair. As mentioned by some, even processing time is important with relaxers so if you want to maintain healthy relaxed hair then I recommend finding a good hair salon. Proper application and aftercare should require that you only need to go to the shop for a touch up 2-3 times a year

  • @Tyansofficial84

    Relaxers require protein balance atleast monthly mot even nothing heavy. I noticed when i to natural to relaxed i did have to so more to maintain my length since products escape the cuticles layers faster. Patience and technique. But if you're a whenever i feel like it person relaxed hair isn't for you. Definitely less heat usage

    Shampoo your hair really good then use the L’Oréal ever pure bond strengthening pre shampoo as a protein treatment. I know it says pre shampoo but you use it after your shampo. It is comparable to Olaplex.

    Your hair look gorgeous, but I completely understand. Even when I press my hair too much it gets weaker. I had to cut about 5 inches off my hair from constant presses. I guess God gives our hair all the strength it needs in its natural state otherwise it will be very high maintenance.

    I prefer my natural hair too. I had so much new growth and I’m annoyed that I convinced myself to relax. I’d probably be happy with it if it weren’t over processed and snapping. I want to cut it off but I don’t look good with short hair. I have no neck.

    Every single person with straight hair faces this breakage because there’s no true protective style for it. This isn’t “damaged” so to say. You take the good with the bag. If you want to wear your hair straight, you get this. If you want to wear your hair natural, you need a steady expensive routine otherwise you’ll have much worse damage. You also wouldn’t believe how quickly you lose hair at the nape and regrow it. At least 50% of that was regrowth, same with the edges. Edges are actually a different type of hair.
    Anywho, you look gorgeous NO MATTER WHAT. Just reassuring you as a stylist that you’re okay. Every style has pros and cons.

    • @Beaneabean
      @Beaneabean Год назад

      There is protection. Most people with straight hair dont wrap their hair at night or wear a silk cap. Nor do they typically use heat protect when they heat style. Doing these things will help.

    sometimes breakage happen from leaving relaxer on too long or relaxing your entire head, you should only relax your roots only and your ends i think one or twice a year

    normally, you don't use heating equipments on your hair... just after relaxing. like you should wait 2 weeks and don't comb it so often or too rapidly...😉 and every thing should be okay.. I personally love relaxed hair on me
