I have theory that maybe the titans used the dwarves as drones like a queen bee and that is why the Elves described them as having no soul. As a drone they may not have had to have a very good memory or the need for written history. And maybe the war the ancient elves talk about is actually a war with the Titan and it dwarven drones. With the death of the titan the dwarves were freed and were able to develop on their own. I know there are holes in this theory but it could explain some of the gaps in the memories of the shaperate.

Honestly, I thought the dwarves were some sort of side effect or function of the Titans, based on Dagna's vision in Inquisition.

A little late (4 years lol) but I believe you’re right. The elves didn’t say the dwarves have no soul. They said that they are witless. They could’ve possessed a soul but little else beyond that. When the war was done, it seems Mythal gave a dwarf (or dwarves) the ability to have dreams. At least according to a song found in the Deep Roads

I personally think at some point the dwarves were separated from the titans and lost or were purposely made to forget their knowledge of the titans, and the stone was created from what little they remembered or is a manifestation of their innate "need" for the titans

After closer examination, I'm starting to think that the stone is the physical counter part to the fade. Magic in dragon age generally comes in a few flavours; blight, blood, fade, and stone/lyrium having a very strange connection to eachother, but after playing inquisiton (again) a few things are confirmed that seem to support my theory.
    1) the fade is all about warping reality. Solas not only confirming that it's the engine of change, but throughout all of dragon age, fade magic is described as moulding or sometimes twisting reality. Cole going out of his way to say that everything besides fadewalker magic that Solas or the Inquisitor uses bends fade magic to warp things. But that same magic despite preserving is still changing and warped into a more "sensible" existance when brought into our world.
    2) Lyrium by nature reinforces reality. Its how it distrupts magic despite not being used for magic. Cullen going as far out of his way to say that Lyrium used by templars doesn't get used like mages ingesting Lyrium potions.
Conclusion: If the fade by nature warps reality, then the stone and Lyrium reinforces it by nature. HOWEVER that doesn't mean that either is unable to fulfil the other's task. As fade magic when channled can distrupt magic and stone/lyrium magic is able to warp.

    • @MFenix206
      @MFenix206 4 года назад +6

one could say that lyrium magic is being used to "re-shape" reality, rather than "reinforce it." Lyrium magic *IS* reality, but Fade magic can *change* reality.
so what happens when you are both using a force that warps reality, and have control of the reality itself? magic is greatly amplified. thus, lyrium used by mages.
that begs the question if a mage using lyrium fueled magic could countermand a Templar's abilities...

I want to mention that the Dalish elves refer to the dwarves as ( the children of the stone) and since the Titans consider the dwarves to be their children i think that is a strong link between the titans and what the dwarves refer to as the stone

something about the "will of the ancestors" is reminiscent of how the well of sorrows seems to work: some ritual for the elders to pool their consciousnesses and guide others. idk what that means, but we do know the ancient dwarves and the ancient elves had some form of contact... also wondering whether Stone sense is connected to lyrium veins at all

The interesting thing about the war or conflict between dwarves and elves is that, Elves and Dwarves have at least one instance of having at the very least trade relations, possibly during the time of Arlathan. (Dalish Elf Origin) I don't know where that falls in the timeline, but I think it's before the conflict, because the legend says "emergence of--and short-lived trading with--dwarves". And if that's the case, then the elf prejudice against the dwarves can't be just a theological issue, something must have happened. And if it is after the whole conflict, it's just really weird.

A theory. What if the Titans are a personified form of the Fade solely for Dwarves? Souls going back to The Stone/Titans, the Titan area being weird and somewhat unreal, those close to the titans can do some sort of magic, and the hive-mind-like descriptions of the mind of the Titans could be the collective will of the souls of the dwarves gathered within them.

  • @Fistleo
    @Fistleo 6 лет назад +6

Wasnt there a line in game that the Titan sings into the Stone or something? But also that the Titans song is more organic, I know that as soon as you enter the titan you can hear the song and also a heartbeat, which honestly always freaks me out a little when I replay The Descent.
Im thinking maybe it has something to do with the "voice" or heartbeat of the Titan echoing through the stone, using frequencies only dwarves can hear and depending on how the frequencies echo, a dwarf can make out where to go? Kind a mix of birds and bats like a commenter before me said. Also these frequencies/echoes/you know what I mean could be strong enough to shape the earth, without the earth being physically touched which seems to happen in Descent.

i was also looking into known dwarves that had left the deep for the surface but been allowed to both return and said to keep their connection to the stone mist of these are those that have served in the grey wardens as those dwarves are welcomed back when they go to take the calling and said to strengthen the stone against the blight and help hold back the taint

I am of the belief that Stone Sense is based on where the Dwarf is born due to the fact Dwarven Wardens keep it. However I can't help but wonder if the Stone is just the collective unconscious of the the Dwarfs and Titans since they don't belong in the Fade. I remember that Cole (I think could've been OGB Kirin) stated "that they are now called by something else that Magic can't reach" is can that be the Stone?

The titans probably weren’t erased from records. I always thought it was a case of dwarves never even thinking to record anything about the titans because they were so ubiquitous to daily life. it’s like if someone wrote a how-to on blinking- why would we need to write that down, it’s just integral to our lives as humans, and maybe the dwarves viewed titans in the same way

It is possible that a disaster happened do the dwarves that happens after the elves force them underground that erased a large part of their past and forced them to change the way they lived in order to survive. We know that disasters like that can happen in the dragon age world the first blight damage the Tevinter history that the names of the magisters that walked in the fade we're all but lost. And in dragon age 2 the tighe that the red lyrium Idol was found bartran said it barely looked Dwarven and it surprised him we could even ask him that "couldn't have dwarves changed over the history" but he said that he knows enough about their history to know they haven't changed much dwarf have been made in tradition so he thought that these dwarves were different but what if that is what dwarves where like at the time and something happened to force them to change. If so 2 or 3 big events could have completely wipe out the titans of history

A little late but as I watched this, I thought of something.
In wars, propaganda is common. It’s easy to kill an enemy if you believe they are less than. And the elven gods calling dwarves witless and soulless sounds like propaganda.

There's a codex entry from The Descent DLC that might also help explain some things.
    The Wellspring
In a time that only the Stone remembers, there was a thaig in the deepest caverns ruled by a wise old king.
The riches in the Stone had provided well for the thaig: lyrium flowed like water from the ground, gold and
jewels sprouted from the walls like mushrooms, and the people wanted for nothing.
One day, the king returned to the Stone and left behind two sons to vie for his throne.
Neither had been named heir, and so each sought to prove to their father's Assembly that he was best suited to be king.
The first son journeyed far and wide across the Deep Roads, forging alliances with the other thaigs,
and returned home bearing word of the goodwill of distant kingdoms and their promises of future friendship.
But the Assembly was not impressed with words and promises and would not name him heir.
So the second son mined the ground for wealth. Every last scrap of lyrium, every nugget of gold he dug up and gifted to the thaig.
But the Assembly, accustomed to abundance, was not impressed. So the second son dug farther and farther into the Stone-
so far that he broke through to the other side and found the sky. And this he claimed for his thaig. And the Assembly named him king.
But the Assembly wanted him to bring back his treasure for the thaig. The new king climbed down
and down the endless mine until he reached the sky, but try as he might, he could not pull the sky up,
nor strike it to pieces with his pickaxe. The new king mined out more and more earth, trying to carve a path to the sky,
and finally, he undermined his thaig so much that the whole kingdom broke loose and fell far, far into the ground and up into the sky.
King, Assembly, and thaig were never seen again.

In ancient days when the titans where awake, each dwarf was only connected to the hive mind of a single titan, so I think Stone is singular because it refers to THEIR titan, not the race. Only one titan actually nurtured them, provided etc... To me, the modern references to Stone are misunderstood references to titans, but I wouldn't mind being mistaken, because the old fractions of knowledge seem so little understood anymore, that it is kind of sad.
I think the Shaperate doesn't have records of the Elven Wars because they must have predated the founding of Orzammar or the Shaperate itself. Some other thaig migh have records of them, but they aren't easy to get to anymore. I remember reading that Orzammar started as a mine: there probably weren't any shapers there to make historical records from the start. When the shapers started recording events, they probably kept records of new events and new knowledge. They didn't try to create an encyclopedia which would explain information which everyone already knew about, like the titans. I'm sure the entries would be extremely informative if the dwarves hadn't forgotten some of this ancient lore. If the dwarves had called the Stone Titans like elves did, they probably woudn't have gotten Stone and stone mixed up.
In ancient times the titans provided for the dwarves, so trade with the surface probably wasn't nearly as vital for their survival, thus Orzammar's location near the surface would have been a security hazard rather than a benefit, in my opinion. The oldest thaigs are probably deeper down.
I suspect there wasn't actually any need to make records on walls while all dwarves were connected to the hive mind of their Titan. They thought all the thoughts without any such aids. So any recording would have started only after the dwarves got disconnected from the titan.
Valta got connected to the titan by coming to contact with its heart. I got the impression from the Evanuris took any titan hearts they could get their greedy mitts on. The mural in Trespasser suggests it. There is a slash on the chest of the titan and the heart is very clearly emphasized. I wonder what happened to the titan's dwarves when that happened? Would the Evanuris have been able to control the dwarves with the heart or would the death of the titan have released the dwarves automatically? Elves wouldn't have been able to mine lyrium by themselves, so the mines in Trespasser would have had dwarven workers, even if the lyrium went to the elves. They wouldn't have done that before they lost the hive mind, in my opinion.

Rocky from Bull's Chargers said he was banished to the surface for blowing up part of the Shaperate. I always thought it was part of the building he blew up, but what if he destroyed part of the wall of memories. What if he destroyed references to the titans? It's unlikely because there's no evidence and it was presented as a throwaway joke and nobody knows about titans anyway, but maybe?

Recently played through the Descent after several playthroughs of Mass Effect: Andromeda and couldn't help but feel there are STRONG similarities between the DA dwarves & titans and the ME:A angara & remnant. Perhaps Bioware simply were borrowing certain motifs or a concept here or there between their different IP's, but it does give me a few truly crazy tinfoil hat ideas now.

Maybe the reason the Dwarves aren’t antagonistic to the Elves is because the Titian that was killed was ‘Evil’ so the death wasn’t considered a bad thing. To go off of that even more, though I don’t have any evidence, what if the Titan that was killed (the one recorded to have died at least) was the Blighted Titian?

"The Chantry believes that the Maker didn't make the dwarves. In fact, little is said about their race in the Chant of Light." Actually, I think *nothing* is said about them in the Chant which is wild! Granted I've only done keyword searches in what's on the Wiki but it seems that the Chant doesn't mention them at all, let alone provide an explanation for where they come from. There's some references to children of earth but in context it sounds like it's a spirit vs mortal distinction rather than human vs dwarf. I really really wish a dwarven Inquisitor could have pushed that question more. If the Maker didn't make dwarves where do dwarves come from? Give me answers Mother Giselle!

hey dont know if you look at comments on old videos but i was listening to some of your playlists while i was at work and noticed somethings we where told that we would never get a clear anseer on the maker which is weird when we have lore such as this but that aside i think you should do video on the story of the pass that we know as fact or almost fact we know of the elves and theregods and bits of their lore and dwarves and old goods if you put everything together just like listening to all your lore videos in row it start to paint a picture of what we are missing dont get me wrobg there is still many holes but outlines are there it seem to be alot of crossing a simplified version of story seems to be the old gods where goin around telling humans secrets of the elves almost the foorm only for the elven gods was dragons could the old gods be traitors from the elves or the elven gods themselves trying to find ally's to fight with eachother then someone was going around hunting titans maybe because they thought it was them truth then came to light so the elves formed alliance with titans that help lay trap and grabbed the "old gods" and buried them deep within themselves so they couldn't escape but which is why their are no bad feelings between dwarves and elves because of this packed this could also be the war that solas spoke of that made generals into gods infact we been thinking all the stories of the elven gods happened when they where goda but what if some happened before then and are dramatized like when varic was telling casander bout hawk in the beginning but i digress this didnt stop old gods who still spoke to humans because they where dreamers transform to dragons. the elves then wared with eachother liking and even copying the way the titans contributed the dawrves and started using that themselves which is what caused the divide and lead to mithals death similar to right of tranquillity maybe even the same process even so they wared the veil was made that destroyed arlthan and let accident tervants to convince maybe even by waking the first titan we heard of that wondered why thy no long had control told him it was elves and he swallowed the remains of their cities like it said they did in the chant. Basically what im saying is what if we are seeing the events from the past reliving them with diffrent people mind you but same story like the world of dragon age is in groundhog day or atleast thatous is which could give hints to why other countries that know of the existence of the continent such as the ones that lie beyond the see stay away because they fear being caught in this repeating loop. dont know if your goin to read this but if you do sorry for misspelling and long rambling type this while at work on and off and was trying to remember most of the things your videos put in my head and i did not spell check. love your videos btw hope you keep Chanel going till we no longer have any questions just answers
