Air Canada 777-300/ER business class is one of those long haul international business class products that seems so-so at first glance, but ends up being astonishingly good after the fact.
This video is a summary of my experience on AC870 from Montreal to Paris. A route, by the way, which is far too short to fully appreciate how good Air Canada business class really is.
The aircraft registration was C-FNNW, and my seat was 5A.

For me, the extra cost for Business Class only makes sense on flights over 7 hours - from 4 - 7 hours it's premium economy, and under four hours it's economy. Just how I roll! Loved the video and great to see you back flying!

Oh, and I’m glad to see the pre-departure drink service is back, I never was offered it on the three business class flights I’ve taken with AC in 2022. @@sanspotter the seats were very similar. I’d no real complaints with either other than the slightly uneven flat bed feel to the one in the 787 but that might just have been the one I was in. The one thing that really makes me favour the 777 is the conventional window blinds. I really am not a fan of the polarising windows in the 787 when the crew can override your control. I choose window seats so I can look out of the window when I want, which is most of the flight!

The seats are virtually identical, Collins Super Diamond, same exact colour scheme and materials too. I found the 777-300 a little roomier, was seated in 1K for both. The only noticeable difference in the product is the newer entertainment system on the 787. So it's a tad misleading to say that there's anything different about the seat at all as there is nothing, save for smaller storage compartments on the 787 and one lav in the forward galley vs two on the 777. I actually enjoyed my ride more on the 777. Nice to see the return of hot towels and the warm nuts, those were still missing on my flights in October.

I was disappointed when my upcoming Tran-pacific flight got 'downgraded' from 787-9 to 777-300ER. Is funny that I also got 5A. Not sure why the change as 787-9 is 25% more fuel efficient than 777-300ER. So AC's decision to burn more fuel on a 10+ hours flight makes little sense to me. If it decided to switch back to 787-9 (not likely), I wouldn't pick 5A as it has only 1 window. On the bright side, I can still enjoy the Signature lounge instead of the inferior MLL.

Great review. I sort of sense the 777's (all) are being phased out completely. They all did their job prior to the 787's and hence the aircraft colour. I may be wrong. I think people still think the 777's new, but in reality worldwide, not at all.

I flew on the Air Canada 787 from Toronto to Bogotá in business class. Safe to say that, I guess because the flight was to South America instead of Europe, the flight experience was far inferior to this, even though flight times are comparable.
I'm loathe to say that there's a racial component to this, but I'll instead chuck it to competition, or lack thereof on the route.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  Год назад

Yeah this is something I’ve noticed on a lot of other airlines as well. The onboard experience all depends on how much competition there is on the route IMHO.

Air Canada is terrible our flight was delayed by 3 hours to start and when we boarded, 5 minutes later the lights went out, the Captain said it was nothing to worry about. when the lights came back on there was a smell of smoke in the cabin and we were told to get off the plane. 6 hours later we made it, but missed a connection. 😪

Dearest Scott. This is your number 1 complainer. NO COMPLAINTS about YOU of course.
You know what my husband did ORDER for me on our last trip?? Guess what?? A "shut up" mask which he required me to wear on my face . ..for the entire flight...I did fight him back clarifying that this insulting mask was not created by VERSACE.
Ha, ha I love fights like that. Besides his bad behaviour in this particular case, he is a fantastic, great guy..what else
Going back to your report. Old buddies like me, I just turned 65, should say welcome claus to the new world of inflight service. Forget about the Glory days......
What you got here was a former coach class meal. I was completely shocked how the food was presented to you. Almost no "decoration". CL wear the mask! It is good for me to hear that the F/A`s had been very friendly though. That`s so important!
Scott, please don`t you forget to show the winelist...and which Champagne had been offered. Please!
Sanspotter that was a very typical report from you to watch...and it has been my honour that you gave me permission to do so.

Glad you enjoyed the video Claus! Yeah, I’m so glad that the face mask requirement is gone on most airlines - but I did catch a cold (not Covid) after returning home from my Christmas trip to visit family. That was the first time I got sick since 2019, so maybe the masks do help a bit? I’m sure the Versace one are better of course. 😄 I’ll definitely include the wine list next time!
