OMG.. so easy.. I used to live in Vancouver, and can never find them in the states.. thank you.. that was the best recipe description and so easy.. thank you thank you.. ;) Oregon, USA
been using other recipes when baking but i just realized that when i use anna’s recipes, they always turn our reallyyy great! u deserve more subscribers❤️
skyee • I couldn’t agree more! I too have been baking a lot more during this weird time. Her recipes always taste amazing and are perfect every time. I made her salted caramel and it came out soooo much better than a recipe I used from a famous cupcake shop in London. I am making her croissants right now ❤️
It's amazing! I'm going to bake soon! Thank you Anna! I had a lovely holiday in Toronto three years ago. I would back to Canada I hope soon. Happy Canada day!
Hello Anna!! Nanaimo bars so delicious and yummy...You are the best baker Anna..Spr Your's all baking recipes are very good and delicious.. Your way of teaching us very nice!!
Hi Anna... I have made this nanaimo bar and it is delicious. But, I omitted the coconut and replaced walnuts with almonds. Hehehe... But maybe next time i need to reduce the sugar since I found it very sweet. Thank you, Anna for sharing this recipe. Keep inspiring us.
Happy Canada Day! I just melted the chocolate and butter. The recipe says to let the mixture cool a bit, but you did not mention or show that in the wonderful video....Regardless, they look yummy to eat, once I complete them This is the first time I have heard of Nanaimo bars and first time making them. Thank you for the excellent video.
Here from WV, I just watched a cookie video on rachhloveslife video and she mentioned these. I never heard of them but they sound amazing!! I can’t wait to try this!!
As a British Columbia resident and one who grew up with Nanaimo bars....baking the base isn`t needed. Also to avoid the top layer cracking when cutting, its best to score the chocolate when its about 75% cooled down. Cheers.
Well… I tried this. Never made them before until today. I only had dark Choclate chips on hand for the topping so we will see if that worked! I doubled the recipe for a 9x13 pan but felt I needed a tad more than double for the Choclate topping to get good coverage. I may have had too much heat on it as I had to work really fast! Lol. I’ll be cutting them up soon to see how it all worked out.
I have never baked the bottom layer. I use the recipe that has you do it in a double boiler, before stirring in the crumbs, nuts and coconut. Then just press into the pan and refrigerate. To counteract the sweetness of the middle layer, my mom preferred totally unsweetened chocolate on the top. A little weird, but a better balance.
Looks really great! As always wonderfully presented by Anna! Can someone please explain what is custard powder? I wonder if could buy it in my country.
Instant vanilla pudding works instead of custard powder in the USA if you cannot find custard powder, add 2 tablespoons of milk. Do not think it is a real naniamo bar if you do this. My family has done this for over 40 years. Sea salt raises my blood pressure so I avoid salt for my health. But the sweet is nice in small amounts ,I share with my family.
What do you do with the extra desserts and food ingredients? Sometimes you say, like at 5:26, that you have one prepared already. Where does the one that you put in the fridge go? Do you eat them? Give them to a restaurant? Just curious, and these look delicious!!
I'm a Filipino and the title is funny because I read it is as "nanay mo" which means your mom in Tagalog. Btw I'll try to do this when I go grocery shopping because I have no ingredients
Until I saw Anna make an earlier version on "Sugar", I could never figure out why the custard in Nanaimo bars was so thick and slightly gritty. Come to realize it's not really a custard, it's icing with custard powder in it. No wonder they're so cloying. I could only ever manage a bite or two. They're for someone with a real sweet tooth. :P
I loathe Nanaimo bars and didn’t know what it was that grossed me out so much about them. This is why right here. That and the coconut giving that extra bit of texture and ugh. *shudders*
This is totally footage from "Sugar." Lots of the content is, but I love it. It's so easy to access here. Basically, an Anna Olson channel. And what could be better?

As a British Columbian, I APPROVE! Nanaimo bars are among my all-time FAVOURITE desserts! Anna, your recipes are always so well-done. Thank you!
My grandmother and mother were British Columbians, if they saw her put it in the oven or put salt on top they'd freak out. LOL.
This video horrified me as I make the original recipe I’m from Nanaimo
@@DyingcrowdLC me too. I live just up the road in Qualicum so give me the original recipe

Yummy!
чудесно🌹🌹🌹
Quick tip, definitely chill after putting the custard layer on. Otherwise the chocolate will mix in with the custard when you pour it on
That's what happened to me
Happy Canada 🇨🇦 day!

Haha. Yo mama's best dessert bars 😂
Do they need to be kept in the fridge?
Never heard of these but looks deeeelis!
Anna, Thanks for your recepie. Using 2 cups of icing sugar i think these are very very sweet bars?
So much chocolate 😊😊

@@saraht6562 They seem to be a love or hate thing.
I would definitely serve them like petit fours - an itty bitty bite, since that's all you really need.
This is totally footage from "Sugar." Lots of the content is, but I love it. It's so easy to access here. Basically, an Anna Olson channel. And what could be better?
Yes!!!
May I try. To share knowledge and I will return to try it. It will work. thank you💕💕🥐😊
I made it ages ago.The recipe was from my Canadian flatmate.
