    I've always wanted to start a salt water fish tank. This seems like a easy beginner tank that doesn't seem to complicated. I've done fresh water for about 10 years but salt water always seems financially impossible.

      byfuzzerabbit it's nuts to get into but if you have the time and money I recommend it. There is nothing like staring at some happy corals. Be aware though. This little tank will suck you into the hobby faster than you'd believe. I've had mine a month or two and now I was a 60 gallon frag tank. Take your time building the tank is the best advice I have.

    it'd be really nice if you could make a video on how to adjust/operate the skimmer for this tank. I've only found one so far but it's not very specific. I believe mine is defective, I've brought it back to the store so they can check it for me, no matter what I do I cannot control the water level and the collection cup fills completely with water, and the only way I get bubbles is to completely remove the top of the air valve.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Allison, stay tuned, we will be. In your case it sounds like you need to adjust the level of the collection cup upwards, you do that by sliding the surrounding O ring downwards. If you wish you may PM at info@fluvalaquatics.com

    • @degenerate_femininity

    • @fluval

      As per our new video just posted, you can move the body of the skimmer upwards with the supplied brackets, that will drop the water level in the skimmer. • @fluval

      Water loss due to evaporation should be replaced by fresh R/O water. The smaller the aquarium the more regularly this needs to be done given the significant changes in specific gravity happen that much quicker.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  3 года назад +1

      Hi Dylan , we are sorry to hear that you are having some trouble! Normally this happens due to the filter sponge insert being overly dirty. The debris will prevent the aquarium water from passing through the sponge resulting in the pump returning all the water before the reservoir has a chance to refill itself. Please try to thoroughly clean your filter media and let us know if this has helped you! Should you still be having trouble after this, please contact our customer service team for additional assistance. 😊 fluvalaquatics.com/us/contact-us/

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 года назад

      You should stir the substrate occasionally and siphon off any excess debris during a partial water change, not every single partial water change as you should be doing small partial water changes at least once every two weeks for best water quality. Make sure to maintain the protein skimmer regularly as well.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 лет назад

      Giving it a gentle stir and siphoning any debris off the surface works well, a gravel vac can also be used when doing partial water changes.

  • @timothyjans7112
    @timothyjans7112 7 лет назад

    Do you have any micro bubbles from the skimmer getting into the display?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 лет назад

      Timothy, there are usually no issues with micro bubbles as the skimmer itself does have a small piece of foam at the water outlet and from there all water must traverse a large filtration fine foam block, basically impossible for micro bubbles to get through. When the aquarium is new or when performing maintenance on the foam block, make sure to saturate it with water and work out any air, in that instance there can be some air pockets that will work themselves out over time, not from the skimmer in that case of course.

      Adjusting the skimmer has much to do with the water level and ensuring that is a constant, evaporation in a small aquarium means very regular topping up with a small amount of R/O make up water. Mushrooms, zooanthids, small colt and kenya soft coral, ricordea are options.....

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 лет назад

      The protein skimmer is adjustable in terms of positioning as is output so that you can ensure no to very few bubbles are emitted from the output. By positioning the body of the skimmer within its bracket slightly higher than you current position you can effectively eliminate micro-bubbles.

      Yes, water will evaporate continuously, the rate at which it does varies with a number of factors. Given the small volume it is important to meticulously top up with freshwater to maintain a constant specific gravity as well as to have proper skimmer function.

      What kind of life can the light on this thing generally support? Lps, sps, maxima clam, anemone? I would really appreciate a response I'm new to saltwater and I find lighting the most complex part of it. I'm sure this would help anyone wanting to buy this.
      Also would a cheap small little powerhead be beneficial to add in, or too much flow and only for the very most demanding additions and generally to stay away from? I see people saying light, circulation, and water quality are biggest factors for saltwater success and this guy only touched on water quality.
      Thank you so much I really hope you find the time to respond.

      Thanks for asking, but do consider that we purposely try to keep our videos to the point, and this means we won't necessarily cover everything that is important. That said, clams, most SPS and anemones, with the exception of small bubble tip anemones (because they prefer rock surfaces and will move up rock structure to the light, although a bubble tip will eventually outgrow the aquarium), are not suitable for the EVO aquarium. Many LPS, polyps and related are suitable.
      Yes, lighting can be a complex subject because to really know what an animal would fare best under, you would need to know what light it has flourished and grown under (PAR and spectrum). Often, this information is not available on the animals you actually purchase. We suggest lower to mid-light corals and invertebrates.
      We do agree that a list outlining suitable choices would be very helpful, and we will address this very soon with an article we'll publish in the Did you Know? section of our our Website: fluvalaquatics.com/us/explore/did-you-know/
      Finally, adding one or two Fluval SEA CP-1 circulation pumps (depending on the corals you keep) is a good idea.

      +WaterspoutsOfTheDeep yeah if I was you I would look for another tank larger with a refugium under the tank with better lighting, will save you money in the long run to get it right first time.

    Not downing your work. just letting people the filter on this doesn't do a good job. Also people you need to buy about 200$ worth of stuff to make it run good.

    I will never buy a thing from this company. I read so many awful reviews of how the Fluval Spec V tank has killed their small bettas and other fish. They get sucked into the filter area, even on the lowest setting. Ripped the poor fish to shreds. Horrible to have read so many accounts of this happening.

      Darren, we can honestly say we have yet to see a betta suffer in anyway in a Fluval Spec tank either in our own tanks housing a number of different male bettas in the aquatic cave here at HQ nor have we heard of them ever being ripped to shreds, which is really impossible as the inlet section is divided from the pump output chamber by significant amounts of filtration foam which allows no access by any fish.

    I have the PS2 in the Evo 12 and getting some serious micro bubbles. It's still breaking in but was wondering where I should keep the water level to help with this?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 лет назад

      We recommend keeping the water level in the aquarium and in the rear filter compartment half way up the intake grid.
      It will take a few days for the protein skimmer to “settle down” however adjusting the control knob of the skimmer will take some precise movement. Never twist the control knob more than 0.5 to 1 mm at time. Separately, make sure the exhaust screen (foam block) at the skimmer exhaust is in place as it helps to collect any bubbles exiting the protein skimmer.
