    Letting the thief keep what they stole so as to discourage them from stealing any more is cognitive dissonance on steroids.

      @Andreas-gh6is 11 дней назад +7

      You're letting the thief get away with the loot to stay alive. That's not an unreasonable strategy. We can all wish Russia hadn't gained anything in this war, but they have and Ukraine is very close to complete defeat. That's why Zelensky is talking about "getting back their territory by diplomatic means".

      The losers have no choice mate but to accept the terms of the winner. Ukraine chose to renege unilaterally its neutrality, although that was the understanding by which it got independence. It chose to bring in NATO, thinking it could defeat Russia. It went back on the Istanbul accord. Ukraine and the west lost after choosing to fight instead of accepting neutrality, so you cannot set the terms. There is no cognitive dissonance. At the end of WW 2, Germany had to accept unconditional surrender and Stalin set the terms for Nazis and their collaborators. Get it ?

    Having been betrayed by the US regarding previous security guarantees, it seems that having their own nuclear weapons and a delivery system capable of destroying Moscow is the only real guarantee that Ukraine can count on. Having said that, Poland could probably run the table on the Moscovites by themselves.

      You're way off. If the Ukrainian Orthodox Church comes back into communion with Rome, the rest of the schismatic Orthodox will follow suit (and NOT because of the will of men, but of God). Though Russia would likely be the last to return to give up its schism, the rest of the Orthodox must give up their schism if Russia is to be converted.
      There is NO peace and safety outside of the Church. This next decade will most painfully illustrate that.

    Although the Russians did "grind on and on" in WW2, the Russians objected loudly to the large numbers of Russian soldiers killed in Afghanistan, and the objections grew loud enough to prompt Russia's leaders to withdraw. As of now, most of the Russian soldiers who have perished have been from the rural areas, but Putin needs more soldiers, hence the North Koreans. The North Koreans have not been effective, except as bullet magnets, and Putin might have to conscript men from St. Petersburg and Moscow. Those cities will probably object loudly when their sons and fathers begin to be listed as KIA, MIA or wounded. Putin is on thin ice, and the temperature is rising.

    16:51 WHY IS THIS JAKE SULLIVAN AND KREMLIN TALKING POINT STILL BEING SAID???
    In the current age range there are over a million available Ukrainian men. The issue has always and will always be long professional training for them so they don't feel like meat and full equipment for them. That's all the 'manpower' problem has ever been. Surprising that people aren't keen to be handed a rock and 3 days training to go back fill depleted units and be a waste.
    No conversation needs to go beyond that, but Ukraine also do have a very small demographic in the younger age range that need to live their lives and start families naturally as that literally is the future of Ukraine.

    I don't think Ukraine needs European troops as much as it needs European air power. Air power would accelerate the reduction of Russian logistics in and near Ukraine faster than Ukraine is trying to do that with long range drones and missiles. Ukraine needs help ramping that effort up. Russian troops that get to the front will already be diminished in their fighting capacity due to steady attacks on their logistical system.
    European troops would be learning drone, HIMARS, and electronic warfare from the Ukrainians. Ukrainians could really use European help in developing a serious air force to deter future Russian aggression. European air force squadrons should be rotating in Ukraine to train in that air space and supplement the UAF.
    If Europe sends troops, then Odessa needs to be one of the places.

    A professor peddling myths and stereotypes? For some reason the professor believes that russians are superheroes that will never back off or surrender and are prepared to take heavy losses and to back up this idea he refers to Russia in WW2. Could I remind the professor that Russians lost and surrended in 1905 war with Japan, then in the WW1 they surrended to Germany in 1918, then in 1920-1921 russians were defeated by Poland, in 1939-1940 russians badly struggled in war against tiny Finland. In WW2 russians were literally running from advancing Germans, and only Allies involvement and massive LendLease military and economic help from the US helped russians to survive and recover. Also, the professor claims that in this current war Ukraine re-took Kharkiv from russians. Not true. Russians never took Kharkiv in the first place. Also the professor muses if Russians would advance towards Georgia. Heh? Has the professor looked at the map recently to familiarise himself with Georgia's geographical position. What is it to do with war in Ukraine? Anyway, stopped listening half way as the validity of this professors opinion is very close to anybody's matey chit-chat in a pub.

So far the major european nations like Great Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy chose not to do very much. They like to rely on hopes and wishfullthinking. People can't stop talking about Russia's ability to absorb high casualties, and mention WW2. They forget that Ukraine has this mentality too, and indeed took proportionally higher losses than the Russians during that war. Ukraine has a much smaller population than Russia, but Russia today is a shadow of what the former Soviet Union was. Iran and North Korea are a poor substitute for the USA Lend-Lease assistance of 80 years ago. Quarter of a million US trucks would come in very handy for Russia today.

    Since America (which in the past actively discouraged other nations from making nuclear weapons) is no longer a viable defense partner, nations such as Canada, Germany, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, and Australia should provide each other the diplomatic cover to renounce all nuclear treaties they have signed and begin to arm themselves accordingly. We live in a different world now. Just ask Ukrainians today how they feel after giving up their nuclear weapons in exchange for 'promises'. In addition, does anyone really think that our good allies England and France would be willing to defend any nations but themselves with their own weapons? American conservative should support this, because after all, the right to self defense is a cornerstone of their philosophy as is making other nations pay for their own defense. No more reliance on the US nuclear umbrella.

    Lot of mumbo jumbo there. Regulations are usually put in place to set the entry bar, high thus a barrier to smaller industries & countries. Nato and Europe membership has lengthy processes which require jumping through hoops. Expensive ones set out by those wishing to protect their business interests.
    Its probably one of the reasons why regulating new industries takes so long. Its enough to squeeze large amounts out the sector, then regulate it enough that no other can compete unless already a multi billion corporate.
    Consumers & voters often suffer the consequences of no regulation and then again, when theres over regulation since its not a competitive market. Internet for example, facebook, twitter, tik tok etc. All being pushed in the kedia by governments to become much more regulated and lawful. Yet the governments often have a vested interest in controlling media narratives. We see Mark Zuckerberg dragged infront of the state for this reason. Encite the public to request tighter regulation & legal framework. Which is exactly what MZ wants as it'll raise the entry level for his or sny new competitors.
