I think the "if you're not in the top, you're in the bottom" set up is what really does the season in. Watching someone excel in the challenge and not receive any recognition but instead get punished is not a fun watch at all.

Also did Trinity have a worse track record than Ginger? Trinity had 2 wins, 2 highs, 3 btms, Ginger had 2 wins, 1 high, 1 low and 2 bttm and was absolutely the worst in that final challenge
That’s why Heidi left the last all stars. It’s very annoying how they sometimes give pity wins to queens bc they have been whining and finally did something better than mid, but some can be the clear winner and they refuse to give it to them for “drama” but really it’s just fcking annoying

Exactly. I love Shea's progressivish take on Flavor Flav but no one remembers it. If there were two winners each episode, this season could've been a lot more interesting. Wasn't that lip sync "Open Your Heart"? Jujubee vs. Shea with an old school song? Doubt Juju would've thrown this one.

Honestly given that the season was very short, they should have kept it in the top two format. The lip sync assassin format worked on AS6 because there were 10 competitive challenges giving more queens a chance to shine (plus even though I'd love more queens getting wins, I would not trade AS6 lipsyncs). AS5 only had 7 opportunities to win a challenge. And in top 2 format, Shea winning would have made much more sense since she'd have been top for Ball and Stand Up while I don't think either Cracker or Juju would have gotten an additional high placement (though one of Juju's highs would change to Top for the Improv with Cracker).

No one got a satisfying arc, the opposite of All Stars 6 Shea didn't dominate as hard as she did in Season 9, so it was hard to get fully behind her. Miz Cracker lost the personable moments from Season 10, so it was hard to get fully behind her. Jujubee was edited like she was there to have fun, not kick ass. Blaire left at the top 4, but it felt like she never got close to making a splash. Alexis didn't win anything even though she deserved to. India left with the lie being her legacy. Mayhem left defeated. Mariah didn't get to fully show what she can do. Ongina left defeated. Derrick left way too early. You finish the season without feeling proud of everyone like you do with All Stars 2 or 6 or 7
Cracker had TWO chances to boot SC before the final and didn't do it. It's hard for me to actually say that it's her own fault she didn't win in a season that was set up for SC to win, but that's what it was.

Drag Detective is a bit much. I mean I guess people do the same thing for sports... but this "everything is a conspiracy by the producers, here is my arbitrary ranking of how things should have gone, see I proved it was a conspiracy by my arbitrary ranking" soured me. The whole channel can be written off by the phrase "art is subjective" (and therefore hard to judge.)
They eliminated the best tv in the first episode. That storyline was resolved waaay too early. Instead we got some lack luster story line of Shea possibly getting eliminated.
yeah I agree that this was Shea Coulee's season to win. Previous to this season, Manila was supposed to win but she caused her own downfall by saving Latrice and breaking the track record rule + not sending Monet home. Season 5 however, it felt like predictable to a fault because there is obviously the fanbase who wants to see Shea Coulee win and the track record rule is followed, and in reality, this is a reality show and outside the show, these queens want to form relationships with each other that hold well, so doing someone dirty has much worse consequences.
Totally, that Naomi All Stars 4 moment changed the actual production for All Stars 5! But I guess production didn't realise the unpredictability is what makes it exciting - "life's not fair" will always be iconic.
Manila lost a challenge she was sure to win, her downfall was her partner being her partner for the challenge which completely distracted her from it plus her banking on no one sending her home because she's the front runner.

The reason it didn't work was quite simple - overproduction Shea was definitely chose to win before the season started and tbf nothing wrong with that, similarly Alaska was predestined to win and AS2 was still amazing Problems start after Manila's elimination, the production was aware that girls may not hesitate to send Shea home, hence they always kept Shea at the top but never to front run, which lead to a bad season and not satisfying conclusion to her character Also just confusing and not well thought challenges didn't help
AS5 was the reverse AS6. In AS6 they've cast queens, who needed redemption and gave it to them. In AS5 they've cast killer queens and gave them something to redeem. They pretty much made everyone dirty in the edit.
I’m only here to put some respect on Alyssa and Shea cutting a rug something fierce to “Neutron Dance” - one of THEEEE best lip syncs ever, it cemented Shea as the winner of the season for me.
All Stars 5 was a pointless watch. It was obvious form the moment she walked in that Shae was going to win. It was very heavily edited in that way too. Alecis was also heavily screwed, no wins and the whole issue with India. Alexis really deserved better. Much like Pandora in AS6.
She deserved better, but I can't think of a single challenge Pandora should have won though. She deserved more screen time sure, but when she went home (she bombed snatch game with Kim Cattrall) it felt pretty just. Maybe even the episode prior if we're being 100.
This is where Naomi was smart. I know she didn't win, but getting rid of Manila took away who would of most definitely would have won giving her a chance.
The thing that baffles me the most is that in AS2 production wanted to push Detox to eliminate Alaska to create more drama. When in AS4 Naomi creates drama eliminating Manila, they have to change the format and then they still want the queens to eliminate the frontrunners. Naomi knew she wasn’t going to win, creating an iconic moment was the only way to really shine
Fun Facts: Miz Cracker wanted to change her outfit before the grand finale lip sync, but production said no. Morgan McMichaels was told to 'tone' it down in the lip sync against Miz Cracker. Alyssa was told by production to let Shea win the lip sync & the original song was supposed to be "Fancy" not "Neutron Dance."
Sometimes I think about how AS5 would be with Derrick staying like the drama that we would’ve been served would’ve been so good. Plus we all knew this was gonna be an apology letter for shea not winning S9. It really was unfortunate that this season was a mess.
I wish they would bring the studio audience back for the talent shows and roasts. Pandemic’s over and we still have crickets with some chuckles from the judges.
The ongina arc fucked me up so bad.. she is one of my fav queens and i loved her since i saw her on s1, so finally having her on all stars was so excitinggg. And then...needless to say that killed all my excitement for the season in general
But I mean… everyone saw what she did. The weakest in the reading challenge, random moves in the talent show, horrific singing and dancing in the girl groups. She was clearly the worst in all categories 😆
Things i couldn't stand about this season: 1. Blair and Mayhem winning the hotel challenge but Jujubee being the top All Star. Why not just give Jujubee's team the win and then choosing Jujubee as the top All Star? 1a. The runway theme was weird. Most gave three looks. India just took off articles and called it macaroni. Mayhem had two looks. Cracker was an egg then Anastasia. India should've gone home 2. Not having Shea and Alexis both go against Vanjie since they both did amazing imo 3. Alexis won the design challenge imo but had she sent Shea home they wouldve had to bring her back in a stunt 4. That comedy challenge sucked. The lip sync sucked. Picking that song for Kennedy Davenport sucked.
Great video as usual! I personally didn't mind All Stars 5 but I agree it felt predictable right from the beginning who would end up in the finals. It was the first time like you say they experimented with putting early outs in and at first it was a gag but then it ended up they all went early anyway so felt like it failed in that respect, I guess except for Blair? But you just knew they'd never crown her, the energy never felt in her favour despite her doing well. Derrick going in the first episode was so disappointing I agree, she is EXCELLENT TV and it would have been great to see the glow up. I think the drama with India was 100% real as well. I really hope to see Derrick back on a vs the World at some point, I think a lot of the fandom feel the same. I remember when I watched this season for the first time I felt like some of the looks, mainly from the top 3 were some of the most impressive I'd ever seen and it felt elevated, a big step up from previous All Stars - it had serious wow factor. Shea the most. The final runway when everyone came back was absolutely amazing. Even compared to All Stars 6 I still think the looks from this season were more elevated overall. So it definitely had that. Only thing I disagree with in this is I don't think India's dress was THAT much like Gaga's, it just had the same type of sleeves but can't see any other similarities. I also think Ongina being cast was one of the most exciting for people, well it was for me anyway. It was sad the way she second guessed herself and faded so quickly.
When watching the talent show and Shea was quite skaky on the pole as the second act, I was convinced she would be clear bottom. But it kept getting worse and worse…
Honestly the top 3 was obvious from the start. The Derrick and India drama only lasted an episode . Mayhem and ongina both under performed and both voted themselves so easily . Alexis mateo didn’t win a challenge , but deserved one or two at least if it was top 2 lsfyl. Mariah underperformed after talent show . India underperformed after talent show . Blair never really stood out . The cast didn’t really gel with each other as a whole that well .
stop because if alexis vs vanjie happened and alexis won the season it would have been SUCH a game changer. alexis deserves a crown and i will stand on that hill.
i really hate the "shae was robbed" on her original season. perfromances in the finale matter, and her overall finale performance wasn't as impressive as peppermint, trixie or sash'as. The finale performance matters, especially when it's a big live one
Drag Race All Star 1 is no longer the worst season, thanks to this season. Ridiculous competitions where we know who wins from the first moment are not enjoyable. Ve unutmadan Drag Race All Star season 8 is also messy
When I think about seasons based on colors, season 3/4 are gold/yellow, season 9 is the purple pink season, and this is the blue season. I’d say the most recent seasons are orange
I love Shae, she's one of my favorites queens, but watching any season with her is difficult due to all the favoritism from the fans (and also the judges sometimes). To me it feels like, although she's amazing on her own, there is this energy of she is owed to win. For example, both all stars she wasn't getting many wins because she's good at everything but doesn't reach the heights of queens whose talent is more focus. And yet she was made to win 5 and be in top in 7 while arguably more deserving queens didn't
She undeniably excelled on her original season. But she didn’t live up to her hype on both subsequent seasons. AS5 was painful to watch as they tried hard to make her win despite MizCracker performing better overall, imo.
AS1 had a stellar cast of queens who did put up a fight (except Pandora), some hilarious moments (idk I love the episodes where they are outside), the runways were nothing special but they weren’t terrible either, the drama with Mimi was tv gold. Besides the pairs twist it was quite good, and honestly I didn’t even mind that too much, it’s the shorter season that made AS1 less enjoyable, at least to me
All Stars 5 was what, 8 episodes? And those damn rose petals were mentioned in at least four of them. By the time Shea brought them up in the roast challenge, I was *over it*.
I want to mention that Anika, a drag youtuber, knew at the time the cast came out that it was because of the personal fight between India and Derrick (like when Alexis recommended casting Alyssa and Coco) So thanks to that rivalry, they both got the call and it just so happened that they both accepted, because the fight was something known among the drags in that area.
She chose to compete in that one. She could have been on 3 or 4. And yes 3 was too soon but she could have been on 4 were she'd have storylines and actually face tough competition.

Didn't watch yet, but I'll give my take: What went wrong in AS5 is that EVERYBODY gave up when Shea was announced/entered the week room. Both cast and production just gave up to give her the crown. And Miz Cracker is unbearable to live with.
The best part of all stars 5 was Bob being totally manic hosting the pit stop from home - it was hilarious and one of the highlights of the first lockdown 😊

A very meh season. I love Shea but I wanted Miz Cracker to win ngl. I knew from the beginning that Jujubee would be the Shangela of the season. Like Bob the Drag Queen I also hated Blaire on the season. I hated that Derek Barry left on the first episode bcuz I was really looking forward to her.
Watching it in the midst of lockdown was such a fever dream. By the end of the season it felt so hollow and empty I LOVE Shea I wanted her to win a season- but this just wasn’t the triumphant victory I wanted for her
AS5 was the first Drag Race season where I'd rather watch the recap. Bob's beef with Blair St. Claire, Jinx hating 80s Madonna & the Number 5. The Pit Stop was more entertaining than the episodes. And when you have SOOOOOOOOO many recaps, it's really easy to pass on the episode and just watch all the commentary and reactions from other queens.
If i had the power to change history, it would be to convince Derrick to do a Britney number. He wouldn't even need to use a "Britney" song. They would just need to use Willam's "Derrick" parody edit. We could have had nobody died at stonewall codified in Drag Race history.
Not knowing WHO is winning a season is key! Shea is fantastic, Sasha is a star. Those are two queens who the fanbase collectively crowned from their meet the queens. For me personally, it ruins the experience of watching the entire season when you already know the outcome.

Just about every all stars season after 4 is just helping me respect and worship Naomi Smalls more and more. That woman was not afraid to reach for the knife to make the necessary chops, and honestly some of these bitches could use a spine or two like what she has, used both for backbending in a lip-sync and sending the biggest competition home no questions asked
What put me off in the end was the winner have a victory party indoors amidst the uncertainties of the pandemic. And she was telling fans on twitter that she deserves it so the pandemic doesn't matter.

I think AS5 was a Bad season… because It was fair (in a way). Just think about It: when Naomi eliminated Manila E V E R Y B O D Y hate her like 💩 (myself included but I never send her a 💀📩). So, If one Of the AS5 eliminated Shea EVERYONE would be sooooo mad that I Can understand Why the cast select the bottom queen fair enough. Yes, Production still puts Shea in a pedestal and I dont feel she deserved being crown over Jujubee or Cracker. But the real thing here is that no one wants to eliminated her because Of the fandom.
The season was so obviously setup for Shea to win from the start that it wasn't enjoyable. It plodded along to the expected conclusion. Alexis was screwed over.
There are very few things that make me laugh every single time I hear them, but "No one was killed at Stonewall." "No one was killed?" does me every time.
Why don't we care to watch it again? Because the cast was stacked so it made sense from day 1 that it was an excuse for Shea to get a crown as a RuFav. Same with Chad and Alaska.
It wasn't the best all stars but it is nowhere near a disaster. I believe some influencers hated it to the guts (which is understandable and no problem per se) and then the hate spread and escalated. yeah I agree that this was Shea Coulee's season to win. Previous to this season, Manila was supposed to win but she caused her own downfall by saving Latrice and breaking the track record rule + not sending Monet home. Season 5 however, it felt like predictable to a fault because there is obviously the fanbase who wants to see Shea Coulee win and the track record rule is followed, and in reality, this is a reality show and outside the show, these queens want to form relationships with each other that hold well, so doing someone dirty has much worse consequences.
Totally, that Naomi All Stars 4 moment changed the actual production for All Stars 5! But I guess production didn't realise the unpredictability is what makes it exciting - "life's not fair" will always be iconic.
Manila lost a challenge she was sure to win, her downfall was her partner being her partner for the challenge which completely distracted her from it plus her banking on no one sending her home because she's the front runner.

The reason it didn't work was quite simple - overproduction
Shea was definitely chose to win before the season started and tbf nothing wrong with that, similarly Alaska was predestined to win and AS2 was still amazing
Problems start after Manila's elimination, the production was aware that girls may not hesitate to send Shea home, hence they always kept Shea at the top but never to front run, which lead to a bad season and not satisfying conclusion to her character
Also just confusing and not well thought challenges didn't help
AS5 was the reverse AS6.
In AS6 they've cast queens, who needed redemption and gave it to them.
In AS5 they've cast killer queens and gave them something to redeem. They pretty much made everyone dirty in the edit.
I’m only here to put some respect on Alyssa and Shea cutting a rug something fierce to “Neutron Dance” - one of THEEEE best lip syncs ever, it cemented Shea as the winner of the season for me.
All Stars 5 was a pointless watch. It was obvious form the moment she walked in that Shae was going to win. It was very heavily edited in that way too. Alecis was also heavily screwed, no wins and the whole issue with India. Alexis really deserved better. Much like Pandora in AS6.
She deserved better, but I can't think of a single challenge Pandora should have won though. She deserved more screen time sure, but when she went home (she bombed snatch game with Kim Cattrall) it felt pretty just. Maybe even the episode prior if we're being 100.
This is where Naomi was smart. I know she didn't win, but getting rid of Manila took away who would of most definitely would have won giving her a chance.
The thing that baffles me the most is that in AS2 production wanted to push Detox to eliminate Alaska to create more drama. When in AS4 Naomi creates drama eliminating Manila, they have to change the format and then they still want the queens to eliminate the frontrunners. Naomi knew she wasn’t going to win, creating an iconic moment was the only way to really shine

But I mean… everyone saw what she did. The weakest in the reading challenge, random moves in the talent show, horrific singing and dancing in the girl groups.

1. Blair and Mayhem winning the hotel challenge but Jujubee being the top All Star. Why not just give Jujubee's team the win and then choosing Jujubee as the top All Star?
1a. The runway theme was weird. Most gave three looks. India just took off articles and called it macaroni. Mayhem had two looks. Cracker was an egg then Anastasia. India should've gone home
2. Not having Shea and Alexis both go against Vanjie since they both did amazing imo
3. Alexis won the design challenge imo but had she sent Shea home they wouldve had to bring her back in a stunt
4. That comedy challenge sucked. The lip sync sucked. Picking that song for Kennedy Davenport sucked.

Great video as usual! I personally didn't mind All Stars 5 but I agree it felt predictable right from the beginning who would end up in the finals. It was the first time like you say they experimented with putting early outs in and at first it was a gag but then it ended up they all went early anyway so felt like it failed in that respect, I guess except for Blair? But you just knew they'd never crown her, the energy never felt in her favour despite her doing well.
Derrick going in the first episode was so disappointing I agree, she is EXCELLENT TV and it would have been great to see the glow up. I think the drama with India was 100% real as well. I really hope to see Derrick back on a vs the World at some point, I think a lot of the fandom feel the same.
I remember when I watched this season for the first time I felt like some of the looks, mainly from the top 3 were some of the most impressive I'd ever seen and it felt elevated, a big step up from previous All Stars - it had serious wow factor. Shea the most. The final runway when everyone came back was absolutely amazing. Even compared to All Stars 6 I still think the looks from this season were more elevated overall. So it definitely had that.
Only thing I disagree with in this is I don't think India's dress was THAT much like Gaga's, it just had the same type of sleeves but can't see any other similarities.
I also think Ongina being cast was one of the most exciting for people, well it was for me anyway. It was sad the way she second guessed herself and faded so quickly.
When watching the talent show and Shea was quite skaky on the pole as the second act, I was convinced she would be clear bottom. But it kept getting worse and worse…

Honestly the top 3 was obvious from the start. The Derrick and India drama only lasted an episode . Mayhem and ongina both under performed and both voted themselves so easily . Alexis mateo didn’t win a challenge , but deserved one or two at least if it was top 2 lsfyl. Mariah underperformed after talent show . India underperformed after talent show . Blair never really stood out . The cast didn’t really gel with each other as a whole that well .

i really hate the "shae was robbed" on her original season. perfromances in the finale matter, and her overall finale performance wasn't as impressive as peppermint, trixie or sash'as. The finale performance matters, especially when it's a big live one
Drag Race All Star 1 is no longer the worst season, thanks to this season. Ridiculous competitions where we know who wins from the first moment are not enjoyable. Ve unutmadan Drag Race All Star season 8 is also messy
When I think about seasons based on colors, season 3/4 are gold/yellow, season 9 is the purple pink season, and this is the blue season. I’d say the most recent seasons are orange

I love Shae, she's one of my favorites queens, but watching any season with her is difficult due to all the favoritism from the fans (and also the judges sometimes). To me it feels like, although she's amazing on her own, there is this energy of she is owed to win. For example, both all stars she wasn't getting many wins because she's good at everything but doesn't reach the heights of queens whose talent is more focus. And yet she was made to win 5 and be in top in 7 while arguably more deserving queens didn't
She undeniably excelled on her original season. But she didn’t live up to her hype on both subsequent seasons. AS5 was painful to watch as they tried hard to make her win despite MizCracker performing better overall, imo.
People call AS1 the worst season because of the format, but the untucked foght in episode 1 pushes it far above this dumpster fire of a season
AS1 had a stellar cast of queens who did put up a fight (except Pandora), some hilarious moments (idk I love the episodes where they are outside), the runways were nothing special but they weren’t terrible either, the drama with Mimi was tv gold. Besides the pairs twist it was quite good, and honestly I didn’t even mind that too much, it’s the shorter season that made AS1 less enjoyable, at least to me
Shea made a joke of herself this season.. her whole storyline was trauma dumping over some rose petals
All Stars 5 was what, 8 episodes? And those damn rose petals were mentioned in at least four of them. By the time Shea brought them up in the roast challenge, I was *over it*.
Shea didn't deserve to win and she wasn't robbed in S9. She's a talented queen, but not for me.

I want to mention that Anika, a drag youtuber, knew at the time the cast came out that it was because of the personal fight between India and Derrick (like when Alexis recommended casting Alyssa and Coco)
So thanks to that rivalry, they both got the call and it just so happened that they both accepted, because the fight was something known among the drags in that area.
To me the worst part will always be that we gave the worst all stars to MF SHEA COULEE
She chose to compete in that one. She could have been on 3 or 4. And yes 3 was too soon but she could have been on 4 were she'd have storylines and actually face tough competition.

What went wrong in AS5 is that EVERYBODY gave up when Shea was announced/entered the week room. Both cast and production just gave up to give her the crown.

AS5 was the first Drag Race season where I'd rather watch the recap. Bob's beef with Blair St. Claire, Jinx hating 80s Madonna & the Number 5. The Pit Stop was more entertaining than the episodes. And when you have SOOOOOOOOO many recaps, it's really easy to pass on the episode and just watch all the commentary and reactions from other queens.
The only season that needed a double winner. Shea and Jujubee winning would be absolutely epic
If i had the power to change history, it would be to convince Derrick to do a Britney number. He wouldn't even need to use a "Britney" song. They would just need to use Willam's "Derrick" parody edit. We could have had nobody died at stonewall codified in Drag Race history.
Not knowing WHO is winning a season is key! Shea is fantastic, Sasha is a star. Those are two queens who the fanbase collectively crowned from their meet the queens. For me personally, it ruins the experience of watching the entire season when you already know the outcome.

What put me off in the end was the winner have a victory party indoors amidst the uncertainties of the pandemic. And she was telling fans on twitter that she deserves it so the pandemic doesn't matter.

It wasn't the best all stars but it is nowhere near a disaster. I believe some influencers hated it to the guts (which is understandable and no problem per se) and then the hate spread and escalated.
