To my understanding, this car is a piece of art and a major part of your life. This isn't a matter of a cool project or jdm points, this is a dream and a passion. It's a union of man and machine. I truly admire your efforts to learn anything and everything you can about this car and the amount of work you all have put in after watching for 3 years. The AE86 is a true anomaly of passion among the rest of automotive culture, and here we're seeing this first hand. I've wanted a Hachi since I was 11 and at the time I didn't even know that Initial D existed, I just thought it was this weirdly cool boxy Toyota from Forza Motorsport 2. But I now I get it, and I swear I'll own one before I die. I aspire for your automotive passion and true love for this car and I'm happy to know that it's not just me out here obsessing over an economy box. I really can't wait to see your face on the first start/first drive, and I can't wait for the day I own one and start my journey. Keep 'er lit, Neil

Had to stop in the middle of the video to say... Car VIN history and stuff like this always reminds of me Wangan Midnight's Devil Z. The car lived a complete life, unknown to you, until you decided to look into it more and unravel it's secrets... It's a beautiful thing. The way you describe the car driving along the sea side was very poetic, and with the google maps overlay it's very vivid. Thanks for doing the effort put into the editing! Also, really cool to see such a niche business exist for things like this... It's appears true that the Japanese rely on redundant documents and long processes, but it shows that the hard work they put in the archive that stuff ends up going a long way haha.

I would love if you made a picture book called "The history of my 86" when the project is finished, put in every picture you have from its origins, etc, tell a story, pics of the restoration, snippets of doing rings and iconic photos, not just for us but as something for you to keep and for us to look at and just lose ourselves in the nostalgia of this amazing car, i do really think that if you finish this car you for SURE have to try and visit the previous owners in japan (grab pics if they have any!), the dealers, drive it up those famous drifting roads and hey, perhaps some people may recognize it and you may find some people have videos or more pictures snapped of previous owners driving and skidding around, this is such an iconic 86, its so unique in its colours, scoop and perhaps when you take it to japan, source those grey wheels before hand, give as much as you can into its old appearance so when you do drive it, someone notices :p

It had some fairly basic drift style mods with weds sa90 wheels, tein flex coilovers, kazama caster rods, bnr32 seats, 5 zingen catback, hks pod, C's short shifter Apexi specS radiator, Apexi front rotors ,Momo steering wheel HIDs Alpine front speakers. I've still got it but its been through so many stages of modifications it nearly had every single part replaced or upgraded.
Info on History would be good to have!

Should any of the previous owners ever see your vlogs, I think they'd be super pleased to know "their" 86 went to someone so passionate about it, and that they'd be glad to see it being so well taken care of, and lovingly returned to glory.

NO WAY! the first owner, Hara-san, lives less than 15mins from Nissan Technical Centre (you can see it top-right of the screen at 9:08, its the huge complex surrounded by greenery). 1000's of people work there and its a good chance that one of the many, many petrolheads there could have known your car.
These are the same guys I was showing pics of your March to who couldn't believe anyone knew about the Calsonic colours outside Japan.
I'm gonna have to send this video to some people....

Theres a small town right near the original Toyota plant.. Hamamatsu. I went there from Oakland, California during college as a foreign exchange program bc there is a major natural disaster hospital in that city.. One of seven in the country. Cool to see it on the map lol.
Awesome episode once again bud. I share your vids all the time.

Hakone's fairly full of tourist busses these days. Also, bus drivers who have a remarkable skill at getting a city bus up a mountain lane.
Those roads are special though. Dead smooth. Couldn't drive there.
Would love to have teleported my RX up there somehow.

My fiancé got rid of his a couple of years ago. I miss that car. 😔 Things went down hill after he had it repainted at a shop locally. The owner let his shop dogs sleep in it. They tore up the interior, pissed in the back seats, and chewed up the dashboard.

Thats such a shame, probably for the best getting rid of it though, they are total heart breakers 😅

Brilliant, absolutely fuckin brilliant. This is one of the coolest stories I’ve ever heard. U have inspired me to track down the history of 1990 FC3S JDM import 2 Australia. I need to know it’s story. Thank you for all the information.

I totally get it man, I've got a Forester STI Import and I have done the CarVX check. I'd love to talk to previous owners. By the time it arrived with me it was a little rough and needed work but it had some fantastic JDM goodies on it Advan Wheels, Defi Genome gauges Apex-i exhaust someone at some point loved it and spent a lot of yen on it. I'd love to let them know someone else is looking after it now.

Same! Im sure the past owners think about their cars from time to time, little do they know that this stuff gets shipped out of their country.
