That's a good looking truck. A very similar story to my 2002 F150. I keep wanting to sell it because it costs money to keep it insured and registered even if I only drive it 2 -6 times a year, sometimes less. But it does come in handy and it's in good shape. Nowhere near as low mileage as yours but still runs and drives like new. I like knowing it's there and knowing that I can count on it to go when I need it to go, no matter how long it's been sitting. I turn the battery disconnect back on and it fires right up. Like yours, it also has three year old oil that I've been putting off changing. I have the oil and filter, I'm just being lazy I guess. I have flushed the other fluids except for changing the diff fluid. I got it cheap and it hasn't cost me much to own. If I were in need to replace it, I'd be out at least ten grand to find anything comparable.
You should undercoat it with Fluid Film or Wax Wool. it'll prevent a lot of that atmospheric surface rusting and slow down the existing rust.
I look forward to seeing more done to this truck. Maybe it'll encourage me to give my old girl some much needed love

The AC issue reminded me of older Ford Rangers that had the AC compressor clutch go bad. It caused intermittent symptoms like you described. Checking if it engages when the air warms up and you can rule that one out.

I'll definitely have to dive deeper into the AC issue later on. Hopefully it's a easy fix

OH MY GOSH! You didnt replace the crush washer on the oil drain bolt!! OH NO!! (lol...) .
I just did the oil on my 2008 Lucerne. I was trying to beat the rain that is coming and get it done before Thanksgiving trip. Hey, I have a tip for you :) --- I took an older 2 gallon plastic gas can and turned it on its side and cut the side out. I went on amazon and bought the replacement spout/air breather kit for about 8 bucks. Now I use that 2 gallon gas can to drain my used oil into and then just take the cap off and transfer it right into the new oil container when I m done :) . I bought that walmart Supertech oil for my beast. It seems to work really well and its only 18 bucks for 5 quarts. Then I use a wix oil filter. So, My total cost on the oil change is about 27 bucks.
I laughed at my GF because she didnt want to wait for me and took her car to some place like a 'jiffy lube' and they cleaned her out of 100.oo with all kinds of "Oil Treatment - whatever stuff" . She got mad when I told her my cost ;)
Stay warm, Im less than 2 hours to the east of you in SB area. Im trying to get as much done before the bad weather hits :(

Very nice truck. I have a 2006 f150 with 75k it’s been super reliable despite the bad reputation the 5.4 gets. I’ve replaced everything you can thing of just as preventative measure. I’ll probably end up handing it down to my son once he can drive no sense in getting rid of it.

Nice! By the time the rust is done with our truck there won't be anything left to pass down lol. It seems like whenever we use the truck something goes wrong but something else just broke yesterday......video on that coming soon 😭

Oil changes are already a pain. I agree drain and go!
Well unless it's a fully built K24. Maybe go and heat up a Hot Pocket for a while 😅

When I do my own oil changes I always let it drain out and let it drip for a while. The rate of dripping does slow down significantly over time. You may think the difference is negligible. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. It makes me feel better doing it my way though. 😅

Nothing wrong with waiting as long as you want, I just don't have time for that lol. On my Nissan I do it the same way but I'm pretty good with changing my oil on the Nissan right on time so my old oil looks pretty clean. This is why I'm not too concerned with getting every drop out. Plus I usually have customers cars to work on so I don't really have time for my cars to take up my garage for a whole day 👍

Well, IMO its a Ford. I would sell it while it is still worth something and buy a Chevy with more miles before it is a problem. Then you will have a reliable truck. Those fords were just poorly made. Cheapest engineering, and they nickel and dime you to death.

@@themechanic6117 Hey it is what it is I have been working on cars for over 40 years and Fords are poorly engineered. All the windows will break on that truck Rocker shafts, it is countless. Time is money. Have owned Chevys for many years and never have those kinds of problems. My buddy pulls for a living had fords for a long time. I talked him into a older chevy Duramax with 250k miles . Now 500k miles no major issues. Ford 6.7 and 7.3 both almost bankrupted him.
