    Another Great Job John 👏
    When you find a great mechanic hold on to him for dear life. Even if he moves to another state ...😅

    That's a Standard Motor Products coil. They've been around for years. They used to make good products.
    I recently purchased a standard motor products fuel injector for a Toyota Prius and it was a factory DENSO injector in the box.

      I recently bought a SMP part for my wife's Nissan (canister vent valve) , let's see how lucky I get with that part . Fingers crossed lol

    I can see how a tech who wasn't paying attention would make that mistake, there are two top sealing surfaces on that water pump, not just one. He carefully cleaned the bottom one but forgot the top one. One thing I've noticed about reman pumps from NAPA is how many come with the cheapest paper gasket. Lately I've been ordering the gasket separately and the quality difference is amazing.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  5 месяцев назад +1

      If that person works at the dealer they should be familiar with this job . I'm sure the person missed that sealing surface but how that happens is beyond me lol . Yeah I'm not a fan of these paper gaskets but they can be beneficial if the sealing surface is pitted (with a thin layer of RTV) , a metal gasket wouldn't seal on a surface like that . That's a good idea . In the future I need to look into buying a second better quality gasket if it's available. 👍

    Wow thats some scary stuff . I have the ability to fix stuff myself like you but today if given a choice I'd choose a local shop where you actually talk to the tech .

      It's definitely concerning when people do diy stuff and make the car just dangerous to drive. That loose tie rod looks like he just got distracted and forgot to tighten it. Actually I think the owner mentioned something about dealing with his kids while working on the truck. It's easy to let something like that slip by. As far as the water pump issue, I have no problems with a dealer. I have problems with crappy techs who think that type of work is acceptable. Oh well, there isn't much I can do about that. Just do the best work I can

    My Wife Has A 2014 Chevy Cruze And I Have Replaced Everything With The Cooling System Water Pump, Thermostatt, Hoses, Turbo And Cooling Lines For The Turbo, 3 Different Over Flow Containers And 3 Water Outlets Over The years. That Water Outlet Is Garbage And Only Last A Short While. Oh, The Hose That Goes To The Coolant Tank breaks All The Time At The Plastic Fitting Area.

      I couldn't believe what I was seeing. That's the type of work you expect from a owner doing a DIY job and it being their first time, not a from a tech at a dealership.

    It's egregious, outrageous and preposterous! I blame flat rate for crap like that. Good job fixing it properly. Now go to that ladies house tonight and swap the springs back lol

    I agree 100% with your statement! I fired one or two in my time ( independent garage) for such sloppiness. Besides, I came from a USAF background, so, that kind of work is absolutely punishable!

      @themechanic6117  5 месяцев назад

      If you can't trust them with this simple water pump repair can you imagine that tech doing a much more involved job? Imagine if this was a pump that ran off the timing belt and this it the quality of work. It would all have to be taken apart again 👎

    On my Lucerne about three years ago I had to repair my wiper washer reservoir leak. I had to take the front passenger side all apart. Then about a month later I could not find my stick LED light. I know my GF took it and left it somewhere. She does this all the time. Well, A year ago at least I had to replace my P/S return line and thus took the same area apart from last time. There was my LED light. Quite a bit dirtier but there. It has a magnetic end on it. So, I cleaned it up and charged it. Still works. Must have been in there well over a year :)
    Socket sets should come with five 10mm sockets instead of one. In the plastic socket holder under neath the fifth one they should print in there "Time for a new socket set". lol.

      Ha! That's funny. I wish my lost tools would come back to me lol . Thankfully I don't lose too many 10mm , or maybe I'm just good at finding it over and over again lol

    Good day Blue Streak is marketed by Standard Motor Products. SMP has been around since 1925. Echlin and blue streak are sold thru Napa and other wholesalers. Thanks, the old school guy.

    That leaking water pump story showed just how much of a waste of time and money poor work ethics can create. I am glad you found that spring, that would have drove me crazy.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  5 месяцев назад

      Exactly, had it been done right the first time ,it would have spared a bunch of wasted time and money. I'm glad I found it too. It's good to get the car running but there always that doubt in your mind about what happened to the spring. It all worked out in the end.

    dealer techs get paid half what they normally do to do warranty work. once you know that, it makes sense. that system is messed up, how is it on the tech at all when a part fails when they had nothing to do with it. sure maybe if it was a comeback and they were working on it but not manufacuter defect.

    Thanks for the piss poor Dealer workmanship story. May I make a suggestion and just keep one vehicle per video, there may be more viewers like myself who archive videos to our private library and we would love one car, multiple repairs ok, but a single make and model please, cheers.
    Where is the Dealer supervisor on the comeback???

    Just a rant, I was dealing with the same stealer and one branch was giving me headache, they could not fix the problem. Every time a bring the car for service, I tell by the way I still have the problem but with no fix. After some time, while I was traveleing, I went to another branch of the same stealer. I did not tell them about the problem, I just wanted the service and go on my way. The service writer, we have done the service and by the way, we have found a problem and we fixed it. I was surprised. By the way I was suffering from poping sound when I turn my steering wheel in a Uturn. They replaced ball joints, shock absorbers top mount, full steering coulnm. No fix. Other branch replaced the brake booster and was fixed😂. At least had a lot of parts new for free!!!

    I've had my local mechanic here in Vienna, Austria, do the same crap with my water pump three f-ing times. And it's a piss simple engine, the F16D3 which has been around since the 1980s in a 2010 Suzuki Forenza. That water pump doesn't even have a gasket you can mess up, it simply has a big old O-ring and they wanted me to believe that 3(!) water pumps from Gates were faulty right from the factory. Some mechanics these days just don't give a damn about their customers.

    Dealerships are the worst. I had a timing belt and water pump replaced at a dealership and they messed up the timing and the car started misfiring and the check engine light came on. I went back to the dealership and they said it wasn't their problem and something else was wrong with the car. Since then i have never gone back to dealership for any kind of service. The most dishonest people work in Dealerships.

    I hope your customers understand their vehicles are looked after very well, in your hands. You are not on flat rate, therefore you take your time and repair problems properly.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  5 месяцев назад

      I tell that to people all the time. I'm in no rush and I'm allowed to focus on one car at a time.

  • @Darjan_Spasojevic
    @Darjan_Spasojevic 5 месяцев назад +2

    Dealership doesn't award taking your time and properly fixing cars. They reward flat rate hours. The faster you go, the more hours you can aquire in book time. Going fast is over rated because of taking shortcuts to get the car out the door.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  5 месяцев назад +2

      Bingo! It's a system that encourages cutting corners and being rewarded for it

    • @Darjan_Spasojevic
      @Darjan_Spasojevic 5 месяцев назад

      That's right. I see the thought behind it, initially, but it's bad for the customer.
