- A video of the song “Starfighter Song” by Ecki Südmeyer, of the Bundesluftwaffe
This song is a fighter pilots song dedicated to the F-104 Starfighter (Widowmaker) which was a Mach 2 capable aircraft that was used throughout the NATO countries, those being: Japan, Canada, Italy, Turkey, and many more
Germany would also see the mass use of the F-104 in the G configuration and experienced several accidents in their flights as the aircraft was very “unforgiving” to any unlucky pilot, this got the Starfighter it’s infamous nickname, the Widowmaker.
NOTE:
Honestly I really like this aircraft, it’s quite beautiful due to its sleek design and the records accomplished by her are impressive. I also enjoy flying this in War Thunder but sometime I hope to have it in a more realistic flight configuration.

Ecki and I were for pilot training in Sheppard AFB. During that time he "produced" this song all by himself with limited technical stuff! Our class 78-09 had parties, where we sang his song. He also prduced the T-38 song just for our class. He loved to go for the F-104 Training, I went to the F-4 side. Even after years our class met in Germany, we used to sing after some beers. After Ecki´s Crash, we still meet sometimes, but, no more songs.
You’ve had a very successful career, good pilot, I respect your commitment in the Defense of Europe, thank you for your service Mr Gutzmer!
The howl of the 104 still gives me goosebumps
The Starfighter always drew me to it as a kid. It was the first fighter i ever saw in a photograph, the F-104G precisely, and just finding a song i never knew existed, This song is one of the best ive ever heard. I love this, thank you so much for uploading this, and lighting the fire once again for the love i have for aviation.

Sadly Ecki Südmeyer and his Co-Pilot Oberleutnant Johannes Asanger died before their time in service to Germany on the 9th July 1992 when the Dornier Do 28D-2 Skyservant they were piloting crashed on short final after a failure of one engine and a go-around at Büchel Air Base.
Both Südmeyer and Asanger had survived a crash before.

i’m always here listening this song after a few beers, not a fighter pilot, but i can apreciate the pride one has on learning a challengin skill like flying an F-104, God knows i’m proud of making it to the airlines at a time 50% of pilots were washed out on their initial training, this song reminds me of the achievment
Good song to sit down and think to. Even if it’s a song about a plane, it’s slow and melodic and I love it. Thank goodness I found this!

From WC, Let’s say you’re on a radar site 100 k’s north of Munich Germany and one of these F-104 s goes over low and fast for several seconds you will think the world is ending, but After awhile you gain your composure and then after shift you go with some of your comrades to the Open Mess Club and have a few drinks! And then tomorrow you start all over again and wait for the next PASSOVER (of a F- 104)!

There used to be a channel called m1ka who had other songs from ecki but I can’t find them anymore.. if anyone knows where I can find “tornado song (about the MRCA)” and his covers of itazuke tower (büchel tower) and give mw operations, please tell me
M1ka was terminated for violating Google’s Terms of Service, sadly I cannot find any actual recordings anywhere on the web but I reckon if given enough time a dedication you or me could find them again, if I do find some I’ll gladly upload them here so they’re back into the “system”
