absolutely based take, so sick of the GDR songs im happy i came across this west germany never gets the credit it deserves being the nato frontline for so many decades. fathers and sons in the same job protecting the same world where each person is free.
This is a song against the forceful conscription of men in Germany from 1955 to 2011. We sang it in our barracks as a protest. The civil service alternative meant discrimination and social stigma. The themes are pretty on point: Being far away from home, cheating girl, professional soldiers, especially NCOs being losers in civilian life, the intimidation and later on dissolution with the system you feel, being unable to act and only being acted upon. And then the fear of the war going hot. I was stationed in Hessen at the German-German border. Our mission was clear: Fight to the last shell to buy time for a defense to be organized at the Rhine and getting NATO forces across the pond and to the front.
Finally something West German And a West German flag-map.... Sadly my country was a Soviet puppet, at least most of Germany could have enjoyed a happy life after 1945

I also think they sound better. They are more complex and give you a sense of power with the high tempo end energetic instruments. This is a remake of a rock song.
Another element of East German propaganda is that the imagery (particularly the uniforms, later down the line) dipped heavily into a Prussian aesthetic. But that seems to be a recurring element in communist propaganda and music - there's always an underlying element of patriotism or even nationalism, despite the ostensible "international" message.
