One of my pet hates is appliances with controls marked only with unintelligible hieroglyphs, making you refer to the user manual to find out what the controls do. I do exactly what you did here and print my own labels to stick on, and whenever I'm buying a new product like a dishwasher or microwave I look for one with words on the buttons instead of symbols - sadly the trend seems to be moving away from words towards symbols. Often I find the newer model of essentially the same product has replaced the words with symbols.
When you were looking at the date code on the capacitor and said it was hard to read due to the angle, I though, why not just rotate the device with the screen to get the right veiwing angle. (?) :) I bought something similar that is USB, except instead of a stiff neck with the camera, it has 10 feet of wire that flops around and cannot be positioned at all. Ha ha.
It can be really awkward to rotate it because the stiff neck will jam up in the confined space. A floppy wire could be both good and bad, depending on the application.
"Better" depends on your use case. If you need to see more angles, you can get devices with multiple cameras at the end, which could be much better for car engine examination.
They should of put a side camera in the end as well, pity they didnt. I was wondering what type of signal goes into the rest of the device. Imagine having composite video, have it connected to a vcr :-D
It's possible that it sends analogue video. The point of it though is that it is a single portable device, not relying on a 'phone, laptop or even VCR.
I think it's more a matter of the sensor which can be provided in the minimum possible space. Resolution isn't as important as getting the right shot, but alas that's what it sometimes fails to do.
almost bought it to check the valves with the mirror. Thank you verymuch for this in depth review!
There are some expensive types of unit with multiple cameras in the end and they may be able to see engine valves.
Great straight to the point review, very in depth Thanks
I'm now tempted to buy one that does HD and can record so I can copy the Huey Lewis & The News video for Hip To Be Square!
On the packing away the probe, can you not start where you want to finish starting with the end that you want to match up?

I bought something very similar from Maplin in their closing down sales. I still miss Maplin
I also miss Maplin. There's not likely to be anything like it again.

I have such a camera, but when I turn it on, the lock sign appears on the camera
I just thought of an occasion that the heat might not be good .
But I guess it says ‘not for anatomical use 😮)
Might be handy if you drop your keys down a drain in the street , with the camera light and hook .
Is there anything better on the market at a similar price ?.

👍👍
Pistons are circular, and will pretty much look the same all the way round 😂

Hopeless resolution and quality in my opinion, they must be using up *very* old stock sensors that cost them peanuts. Enjoyed the review!
