I was rained out of Sintra two years in a row and unable to capture everything that I wanted. I have seen most of the major attractions in years past with much less tourists and I find the Castelo dos Mouros to be one of the most significant and memorable sites in Portugal. The Palácio Nacional de Mafra is overwhelmingly enormous with spectacular halls and living spaces that almost defy logic. The library was most likely the largest in Europe when it was built yet, it’s just another enormous space within the palace. The Palacio Nacional de Queluz is one of my favourites. The gardens especially are beautiful with a canal adorned with azulejo tiles, bronze and marble statues.
