Rained out of the fairytale town of Sintra but managed to capture some shots. Palacio de Mafra (Huge). My favourite gardens of Palacio de Queluz. ruclips.net/video/vbROE1D6WsU/видео.html ruclips.net/video/t21K8xlWyEE/видео.html
All of the images were captured on various trips between 2007 through 2023.
Images of Évora’s Cathedral and 1st. Century Templo Romano followed by the town of Obidos inside a medieval castle.
Ferry from Cais de Sodré to Cacilhas, and a bus to Cristo Rei. Walked through Almada back to Cacllhas and took a bus to Caparica. Had lunch at a beachfront bistro in Caparica before heading back to Cais de Sodré 💕
Mostly captured in June ‘08 when tourist density was considerably less.
There’s an endless list of videos available which capture the “Ondas Gigantes” (Giant Waves) of Nazare. Unfortunately, I happen to visit four days after the first big waves of the season. But Nazare never disappoints - it is very colourful and offers incredible views both from the cliffs to the lighthouse and the beach town to the south. My first time in the small town of Porto Covo was simply spectacular. The beautiful wild coast of Alentejo can be seductive and breathtaking.
Considered by many as the surfing Mecca of Europe, Ericeira is also historically renowned as the port of expulsion of the last monarch of Portugal. (King Manuel II) It’s an incredibly colourful town with a variety of foreign influences in restaurants and small shops.
This doesn’t totally encompass the modernity of Lisbon but it serves well to enlighten those who have left Portugal before the revolution as well as the development of post European Union.😊
I was rained out of Sintra two years in a row and unable to capture everything that I wanted. I have seen most of the major attractions in years past with much less tourists and I find the Castelo dos Mouros to be one of the most significant and memorable sites in Portugal. The Palácio Nacional de Mafra is overwhelmingly enormous with spectacular halls and living spaces that almost defy logic. The library was most likely the largest in Europe when it was built yet, it’s just another enormous space within the palace. The Palacio Nacional de Queluz is one of my favourites. The gardens especially are beautiful with a canal adorned with azulejo tiles, bronze and marble statues.
All of this was captured sequentially over a period of five days during the month of October.
I have purposely avoided the most touristy attractions of Lisbon. Having visited Lisbon many times, I simply wanted to experience the daily intake of normality. This is simply a culmination of neighbourhood photos captured at various times and light of day.
FYI, these photos were taken mostly in the early morning hours during my stay in October. Purposely, the absence of people together with the ambient lighting allowed for more focused and less diluted compositions.
