Oh man! Two of my all time favorite artists - teaming up together on a Plein Air paint video. I am absolutely over the moon! It is so interesting seeing both video "takes" from each artist and comparing the two. ... so bummed I couldn't make it to the event in San Diego. I'm enormously grateful to you guys for creating and sharing your experience.
I always love how you convey the feeling of light and shadow in your paintings. I own your book 'Color and Light' and it is an invaluable guide for me.
Oh my god. I remember going there as a kid! Seeing that instantly took me back to the long bus ride from Garden Grove and Westminster on school field trips, Kerns "nectar" drinks and paper bag lunches trying to figure out how old "old" is when you're 7 years old.
I love your color and light book. It has helped me out alot. the blockbuster piece was one of the first paintings I saw from you and it blew me away and has really inspired me as an artist. I love this piece you did as well.
It’s an incredible book. I have that and Imaginative Realism and I just had to get the 20th anniversary edition of Dinotopia. I’m late to the YT world and was overjoyed to discover James Gurney has his own channel.
Yaaay! Two of my favorite artists! One is very young but very talented, and which I believe it's safe to say is a new master.... and the other one is Proko! I'm kidding, I'm kidding... I love you both!
Damn, mah boy Gurney made Proko look like a freaking amateur, I could see Proko felt kinda intimidated by this joyful and charismatic old man's talent, anyways I think both are great but gurney surely is more experienced in plen air
its not really like that, Proko was actually doing a 2 colour challenge, he had ONLY two colors to deal with (and he forgot to bring the blue and improvised with the violet), so its really amazing how it turned out. I felt that he was a bit awkward too but maybe because what he had in mind was that gurney did the challenge too? idk... but be sure that gurney did not make Proko look like a amateur, bc he is not!
@@alexdperdomo I'd say gurney is definitely more experienced in plein air, that's just a fact. But yes they were doing two different things, and proko had a stranger palette. Proko is an excellent painter if you look at his studio work, much more academic feeling than gurney. But Gurney is hard to beat, I'd say he's better (which is totally JUST an opinion) but I don't think he makes proko look like an amateur at all. Many could argue Stan is better with valid reasons.
one thing I love about your paintings is they bring life to something that's pretty dreary o.o like I wouldn't have thought to add those colors you added I'd have just added the colors I see probably
I still wish you would show your set up really good. I like that it is so compact but can beaver see it to see if it is something I could make and use. Please do a video showing your set up.
And thanks to Proko for suggesting the idea of a collab. Proko was super helpful to me when I was trying to figure out DVDs, Gumroad, Sellfy, and all that.
Happy to see two of my favorites artists in a video. I'm sad there is no much collab :( it would have been fun to see Stan deals with a dinosaur and James, meh, James can do whatever he wants :)
Colvich, not at all, I'm a big admirer, and a fan of both his art and his videos. I'm just awkward and don't know what to say when I walk up to anyone's painting-in-progress. As for who is King, keep in mind, he's half my age and has 10 times the subscribers. You do the math!
Thanks for meeting up, James! Really fun hanging out with you and Jeanette. Let's do it again.
Proko I watched your video first and its a awesome painting
I saw the title "Proko and Gurney" and I had to watch.
0:21 is already looks like a painting! That scene looked beautiful!
I was already following both of you!

What a fun day that was! I'm glad I got to be a part of it. What a fun collab! Both paintings turned out wonderful!
I think James Gurney is my favorite artist. He seems so down to earth. That and I love Dinotopia.

Two of my favorite people! Wish I was down there to see the both of you!
Love the shirt, and the painting. I just started with gouache and it's awesome.

James has the advantage to work quickly with gouache and a waaaay smaller size, Lol.

Mr James Gurney is so clear of that fraud Proko, who BY THE WAY can't even draw a kangaroo
well done! it's nice to see both of you together!
Amazing!!! The flare is great!

Oh I love Proko. I didn't know there were actual Plain Air Conventions. I gotta go to one. :D
woooow!!! legendarry!!!
Two of my favorite teachers :)
using a wet piece of paper towel so paint won't dry up. why didn't I think of that? thanks!
never clicked a video this fast before

I want some of that "Magnesium Violet". ;)
I subscribe to both of you guys. Pretty cool seeing you together.+
👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Gurney teaching gouache but wips out the pen anyway... killer artist!
Proko: great, but how did you get the green with just 2 colors? Or did I miss something? Lovely painting, btw..
It's just grey! It looks *kinda* green in relation to all the other colors.
No idea...xD
I need to be able to put more likes on this!!!
He's so good at nailing values so fast that watching him is basically not helpful to my painting. Lol
Though very enjoyable
Стэн долговато рисуешь
FIRST!
I read gurneys book,I am a better artist for it😊😊😊😊
You look disappointed with Proko. I don't like prokos "art"
I'm disappointed with your comment ;(
It did look a bit like Gurney just came by to take a peek at an amateur having a go first time doing some painting.
Proko I love you Proko! Without you I wouldnt be were I am in art!

Good guy James, such a nice guy.
