You're absolutely right about us loving these tours - we get a ton of information and, more importantly, benefit from the experts' many years of experience. Rob was so genuine and forthcoming. Loved his take-it-in-my-stride reaction to the pot almost falling off the conveyor belt.
What a fantastic and educational tour this was! I won't be complaining about the price of a great clematis after seeing how much work goes into producing them! Thank you Jason for taking us on this trip 😀
This is super interesting. I've bought many of their plants. By sheer coincidence, I bought one today. Besides being wonderful plants, they have the best plant tags
Thanks Jason, Rob's scale of production is mind-blowing! Remarkable to see so few staff, when traditionally, Hort is such a labour-intensive industry... Great to see his tried and true pest management practices: we used to use way too many lethal chemicals where I used to work. 🤢
They've done a great job adding automation where appropriate. He said something like 160 on staff right now - and that's no small feat in the BC labor market post-covid.
This is my Cousin Rob ❤️ Clearview has amazing product. I have a garden centre supplying Pender Island for 30 years. I’ve watched them grow over the years ❤️
Thanks Deborah - yes, I was very impressed with everyone I met on the tour. You know I have family on Pender and I probably checked your place out when I was visiting! Small world.
He said some interesting things. We grow an obscene amount of strawberries and raspberries and something we say often is 'never send them to bed with wet feet" He said something similar. We don't water too late in the day because we don't want our plants to have cold, wet roots. Another thing that was interesting to me was the use of predators. A fair few gardening/homesteading youtubers have said they don't think predators are worth the money because they either leave or die. Generally, they leave or die when they run out of food, which means they have done their job. We use a lot of Persimilis to take care of various kinds of mites. They take care of the mites and then the population dies right down, but as soon as the mite population increases again, the Persimilis come right back as well so one distribution of the predators can keep mites under control all season. Nasty little dinosaur looking bugs. Great video man, love hearing other growers perspectives and insights on things.
Thanks for your insights Brad. I like what you're saying about persimilis - they need a food source to survive, and they go through the spider mites rather quickly when conditions are right. If they're gone, it means they've finished the job! I has decent results releasing Neoseiulus californicus earlier in the season - they seem tolerant of wide swings in temperature and humidity, and moves over to feeding on pollen when the prey numbers are down, so they seem to be able to stick around a little better.
Didn't know I needed to know all about how Clematis are grown but I guess I did! Thoroughly enjoyed it! 🙂 And my little 🇨🇦 ♥️ swells up just a little when I see something like this.
Hi, I so enjoyed this video,so much information on growing clematis vines! It’s my favorite vine, and always try to grow it with the few roses that I have in my small garden. It’s such an amazing plant for growing vertical on trellises. Thank you for new information.
These are awesome videos. The information is fantastic. Thank You so much for taking your time to provide us with these. Looking forward to seeing more. Thank You again Jason.
Awesome tour - thanks for posting! 1. Bulb crate workstation - so familiar! :) 2. Ellepot system transplanter is blowing my mind. 3. Offset stacked pallet is amazing. 4. Need to finally visit their shop - have been staring at their signs around town for the last 15 years and never found the time. But will go this year!
Thanks Beverly. The bulb crate thing: the go-to solution to almost any problem on a nursery. Are you in the industry locally? Yes, those Ellepot liners really made for a great plugs. Love it.
Wow, that is one professional operation. impressive production process in multiples!! 70k props per day is insane. Love all the tips and bits of experience based education your interviews offer. You are not only a great grower, you are an excellent journalist as well. Cheers!
Thanks Jason for the video! We went to Clearview Garden Shop after watching your video and got 14 clematis yesterday!!! So excited to plant them with your roses!!!
Jason, What a GREAT tour ! So very interesting to see how our plants are started and all that goes into everything to get them to us, before we buy them at the garden center. Always look forward to your videos, always very useful information ! Thanks once again !!!!
I've loved these tours; especially this one. I've always had an interest in Botany and engineering/electrical/automation. Had no idea those auto-potters and conveyor belts existed. A whole new topic for me to research and look at new career opportunities .
You have the right interests to do well in horticulture - some of the transplanters, seeders and machine pruners are really cool! I ran the potting line for my previous employer for a long time - an older Visser PC-9, and even though the tech was 20 years old (or more) it could still push out a flat of potted plants every 8 seconds.
@@FraserValleyRoseFarm Thanks for another product name to research. It looks like a lot of this horticulture automation tech comes out of Denmark and The Netherlands so I might have to start up some foreign language classes to go with my other research, haha.
I really enjoyed this tour. It was great hearing about the liners and pest control. Lots of other good info there. Thank you. Do you think they would be willing to discuss their propagation process some? I think that would be pretty interesting as well.
That was great, I may have to watch it again in case I missed anything! Bought 2 of his products last year and they are doing really well. Yes, please take us to his retail operation!
Thanks. You bet. I had a chance to visit some of the other large growers in the region (Skagit, Qualitree) and I'm always amazed by the scale of their growing.
Thank you so much for these touring videos. I learn so much and always think they are never long enough!!!..... it is always a vulnerable time for the grower to expose themselves to the online world so thank you to the owner also.
Thanks Cathy. I always struggle over the length a bit, because conventional wisdom says viewers won't click through to super long videos. I generally try to get topics down below 15 minutes, but preferably 10 or even 5, depending on what I'm presenting. In this case, so much of the footage was engaging and usable, I left very little on the cutting room floor, and then only because there was loud background noise or we were in transit from one spot to another.
@@FraserValleyRoseFarm As you grow your audience you will see a shift in desired lengths. 90% of my RUclips watching is done on my smart TV. It automatically plays and longer format videos of 20 to 30min are typically what I watch so that is what plays. I need to actually manually line up smaller videos, which I don't mind doing when I notice they have uploaded. Do you watch Garden Answer? Their videos are perfect length ... RUclips suggested your channel as I like GA. I see your videos as a huge inspiration for me to take the next step of selling my seedlings and cuttings .... as a home grower I always over produce!
After watching this, I realized I just planted a clematis in soil that is probably too wet. I will be moving it asap. Thank you for the informative tour.
Oh, wow !! I absolutely love this video. I figured they do trials like roses but this is different as for markets and shipping. Never seen such giant spaces like that here with natural environment for bugs. I knew there should be something like that in North America Continent . I have seen videos in Africa but your video blew me away. Wow !! Love it !! ❤️❤️ Thank you Jason and Thank you Rob !!🌹
Another great tour. I have a couple of their vines and love hearing more about their practices. Their tags are fantastic! The best I've seen. Thanks so much Jason!
Thanks Jason. I have not tried to grow Clematis yet but I've been thinking about it. I'm not sure what ones I like yet, but I would like a long bloomer. Got to learn more first.

I've always liked and bought Clearview products and now I know why I've always been impressed. Thanks for the tour!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching Susan.
Nice to see how big this operation is, bought one of their clematis last spring. The heat dome last June almost killed it, but it came back.
I'm glad it recovered - I lost a few things in that kind of heat!
This is super interesting. I've bought many of their plants. By sheer coincidence, I bought one today. Besides being wonderful plants, they have the best plant tags
Thanks Candace. I was so impressed by the quality of the finished plants.
That was AWESOME! The guy is so casual about the scale of everything. Behind him… millions of plants
I know, right? Like it's the most natural thing in the world to take 70,000 cuttings a day.
Absolutely fascinating! I wish they were closer to me! Plus, I love to see businesses flourishing! Great tour!
