    What a great video! I will start this "sniffy game" with my dog tomorrow. It all makes scents/sense (yes, pun intended), my dog is a big sniffer and driving me nuts. I hope this training works for us because it's ruining our obedience classes, I think it will so thank you in advance.

    Thankyou!!! It's hard enough with my German Shepard, husky, jack rustle mix. Without her to stoping every ten yards on our walk

    Oof the first minute felt like a direct roast. I do all those things to stop my pup from sniffing 😅. Loose leash walking always focuses on pulling but never the pup who just wants to stop and smell in a small area every few feet. Great vid!

    Thanks, I’m training my dog to be an assistance dog and whilst I can get him to stop I have to correct every few seconds.

    Can you add a cue like “stop sniffing”? Would that work?

    I’m absolutely trying this right now before our walk because I have definitely tried stomping on the ground and putting my hand under her head 😭😭. THANK YOU! I had a dog before but our family never trained it, so I’ve been learning alot but it’s working 😊

    I've done that for three years indoors, and have tried it outdoors sometimes, he's a cockapoo so a lot of spaniel in him, its still a scavenger.

    Would this technique reduce my dogs focus in mantrailing? My cocker spaniel does both disciplines- no issues whatsoever to get the dog to sniff, but I definitely need him to stop sniffing in agility…

    When they turn to look at you, should you lure with the food or keep the food hidden and instead lure with your body movement and voice instead and then give the food when the puppy comes? I’m wondering if you lure with food then the puppy is coming only because he sees food.

    Hi Jess,
    Do you start with a low value (Cheerio) cookie in the cookie jar to begin with and then move to higher value as a way of "proofing"? And would you ever get a treat from the jar as in dog comes running to you and you both go to the jar for the cookie?
    Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!!

    • @AgileDogTraining
      @AgileDogTraining  5 лет назад

      +Mary Young yes, you can definitely start with lower value distractions! I sometimes do reward from the “cookie jar” but make sure it’s only occasionally so the dog doesn’t come to expect this as a reward. Expectation of reward can become highly frustrating for dogs (they start to expect a paycheck instead of a bonus!) hope this helps!

    Hi Jess, my Aussie is so high that she is constantly barking during an agility run.Then we run into trouble because she either does not hear my commands or is so high that she chooses to ignore me. I have tried " lie down ", starting by telling her quiet before starting the run. We've been building the sequence length slowly. Do you have other suggestions? Thanks.

    I can't use treats in 3 weeks time when we have a test.

    What to do if I can't find a treat higher value than sniffing? My dog is absolutely obsessed with sniffing when he is outdoor, and I can't find any treat that beats the grass.
