I’m picking this one over ES300h I’m currently driving actually :) ES is nice, but drive train is a bit too lethargic, and I just want some extra fun. I tested non-Max Crown and I’d say I found the drive feel, suspension and noise dampening is very similar to the ES. Interior materials choice is not as “luxury” but how often do you REALLY care about it that much 🤷♂️ Everything you touch in Crown feels pretty good I’d say. Lack of ambient lighting is a bummer, but that’s about it really. And again, the fun of driving RS drive train should be a blast!
I mean the engine in this is superior to the basic one in the ES 300H which has the one from the old Avalon hybrid🥴 even the base crown has more power than the ES 300H
This will need to sell on its taller seating position. I’m a taller dude so it appeals to me, and I’ve had an ES350 in the past (yes, I had old man taste in my 20s lmao). For those well under 6 ft, the Crown will have limited appeal unless you’re into the Crown name and its history.
I bought this very one today! Went with the intention of getting a Venza and this was parked out front! Totally caught my eye! Took it for a test drive and was Immediately sold! I have a 2014 Rav, so this is more than a step up! Can’t wait to pick it up! ✌🏻

What you guys are seeing is not the real CROWN. this is a cheap car they made, the real CROWN competes with Lexus so they don't sell them in the same region. I don't wanna hate on this cheap car but my 2017 CROWN is a badass car this is rubbish
All I want is a Corolla Hatchback Hybrid with the new 2.0L hybrid system from the Corolla Cross. Affordable and sporty. Sucks how expensive cars are getting.
In Europe, the Corolla Hatchback and Wagon also comes with 2.0l hybrids, and are still efficient, quick n meaty in power. There's no good reason why Toyota held back from the US. However, PR and market speculation is one of Toyota's weak points. They'd rather not cannibalize certain models within their own range if it means continuing to sell the most profitable (non hybrid) cars, particularly in states without better emissions regulations. You don't even have a hybrid C-HR, the Prius V and particularly the Prius C was axed even if still produced with new and improved NiMH batteries in Japan, called the Aqua Hell, the eAWD hybrids that have just came to the US were in Japan since 2015 Toyota rested on their laurels Every bloated car maker does, they'll axe small efficient cars when there's 12 months of decreasing fuel prices. Fast forward 5 years and what do ye know? People want efficient go getter cars and are alienated by a heavily speculative/inflated used car market Ford, GM, Chrysler are just as guilty.

Making this a sedan with a traditional trunk (and therefore less trunk space) instead of hatch/fastback style was a huge lost opportunity.. Also strange is how it's smaller than the outgoing avalon many ways...
We love our Crown Limited getting 45 MPG, AWD for the winter months no need for snow tires, smooth ride, excellent ingress and egress height. My wife wanted a sedan hybrid happy wife happy life. 👍👍
I think this is a sedan version of the Venza, but I like it. Nice pictures of the Natchez Trace parkway. It's not really a good place to review a car since the road is as smooth as glass. But the views are pretty nice. I live about 3 miles away from that giant bridge so I know what you mean about smooth roads. Keep up the good work.

I recently saw something that said avg new car prices had jumped almost $15k since 2020. If this car was $12-$15k cheaper, I would definitely buy it but going into the mid 40s and higher is a no go for me. New cars are way too expensive these days for an asset that depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot.
When I was a kid in pre handover Hong Kong (92-96) these were the most common taxis over there. They were roomy and the drivers used to blast the AC to the max!

I don't know why no one wants a sedan. They're the perfect size for me. Not too small like a sports coup and not too big like a truck or an SUV. I'm also disabled, so something that is easy to get in an out is paramount.

Somehow I don't totally hate the way this looks, but it seems like an unusually half-hearted effort from Toyota - a very "GM" type of move. I think the price is overly ambitious too. This doesn't seem like it'll be a winner to me.

I've seen hatchbacks styled like traditional sedans, but never a sedan styled like a hatchback. SUV looks, but not enough SUV benefits. Also, didn't Honda try something like this? How did that work out?
Too little difference in terms of mpg for me to even think about switching. My 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid gets 36mpg-42mpg. It's a premium/loaded car, still looks great, needs 8.0s for 0-60mph. I have 160.000 miles on it, still on the very first battery that still charges up to 100% with its power depleting faster than when it was new. But I'm still getting a much better mpg than on a gas equivalent. My point: I would expect better mpg in a car like this, with better performance from a top spec Toyota with a price this high.
Just what the average American needs. Another $50.000+ car add dealer options. Don't forget price adjustment and all the fees. What $65k. Maybe 70. I see a man from Japan pointing at me yelling, car not for you. You drive Prius.
I’d rather get a Camry XSE v6 over the crown. Same performance as the hybrid max, not much less mpg, more refinement, nicer interior, same legroom but more headroom and the same size trunk. And it has more tech like an opening pano roof and a heads up display

I liked it, price point does make me jump over to Lexus. Its a nice looking vehicle-didn’t like front plastic grill kinda cheap and wind noise I did notice. Under the hood was good not all plastic you get rubber hoses.

A hybrid Camry on huge tires with AWD? A Venza sedan? If it were a hatchback then it might be considered a modern Saab 900. Unfortunately, it resembles an AMC Eagle sedan with modern tech underneath. And, it's expensive. It replaces the Avalon but retains the Avalon's huge front grille. Except for the new 2024 Prius, Toyota's styling in general lacks elegance.
I wish modern cars had a better ride quality on the roads. The easy way manufacturers get around this is put little engineering investment into the suspension design to end up with a firm jarring ride and call it sporty. 😂

Needs more headroom in the cabin, needs a lift back instead of a trunk, and needs crown badging. Why does it take Toyota a while to understand what Americans want. We are not small people over here. Give us some dam head room.

Nobody understands why they chose this version when 3 better Crowns made their debut at the same event at Toyota HQ.
The Honda Crosstour was a relatively similar concept. However, it featured a hatchback instead of a traditional trunk like the Crown.

A hybrid Camry on huge tires with AWD? A Venza sedan? If it were a hatchback then it might be considered a modern Saab 900. Unfortunately, it resembles an AMC Eagle sedan with modern tech underneath. And, it's expensive. It replaces the Avalon but retains the Avalon's huge front grille. Except for the new 2024 Prius, Toyota's styling in general lacks elegance.
I can still choose a BMW E46 330i over any one of these Toyotas chunks.
I wish modern cars had a better ride quality on the roads. The easy way manufacturers get around this is put little engineering investment into the suspension design to end up with a firm jarring ride and call it sporty. 😂

I like the Avalon better, but give Toyota some credit for bringing back the Crown name to North America. Just don't like all of the cladding.

Yeah it looks good but it doesn't look like the Crown, which is a large sedan. I'm not sure how it looks in person, but it seems like its segment is somewhere between Corolla and Camry

I agree ! There’s a few used LS500s in my area going for around 46-52k.
Needs more headroom in the cabin, needs a lift back instead of a trunk, and needs crown badging. Why does it take Toyota a while to understand what Americans want. We are not small people over here. Give us some dam head room.
So the venza is cheaper and gets almost the same mpg. Why buy the crown? That being said the Crown look ok, take the black off the door and give it a nice two tone interior

This is not, I repeat, it is NOT a replacement for the Avalon. This is no where close to being on par with the Avalon.
Toyota has completely lost it. Why cancel the Avalon only to give us another full-size sedan?
