And according to the triangel and vest, you have a first aid kit in your car and you have to know how to use it. So every driver has to have made a first aid course before he gets the driving license and you have to help in case of an emergency by law.
Inside a city / build-up area (between those yellow signs) 50km/h in general, outside 100km/h and on roads with two lanes in any direction or with a fixed barrier between the lanes (like the Autobahn) a recommended speed of 130km/h, if there is no other sign, that limits the speed to a lower level.
Our system unforetunately didn't work the way it was intended to work. It should encourage people to use more multi-use bottles, where the deposit is smaller (8 cents to 15 cents) than with single-use containers (25 cents). But many think, Pfand (deposit) is always good, but reusable containers are much more environmental friendly than single-use containers.
Only Bavaria still has only divided schools, all other federal states have only or also combined schools. I made some videos about this topic, how it works, on advantages, disadvantages and options.
Still have to move on with apprenticeships and university.

The problem with letting the free market deal with everything is that companies worry exclusively about their bottom line, that is how they are set up. They're not immoral, they're amoral.
Only laws and regulations made by democratic consensus also worry about the greater good, socially, ecologically, and in the long term.

@@Pjalphareacting Agreed, we need a balance and mix. But when it comes to the environment or other long term issues, that's a textbook market failure issue. Companies won't solve this for us unless we make them.

@@Pjalphareacting All regulations in Germany have a reason, like environmental protection, customers protection, workers protection and many more reasons. When I look at how a lot of this is in the US in comparison, then I know why we need these regulations and the US has a lot of regulations too. If you look in other countries like India, you see what companies do without any regulations. Like dumping pharmaceutical waste into the wild.
An unregulated free marked tends to maximize profit at any cost.
In the end it's a balance act, politics are required to balance the interests of the economy against the interests of the population in a really long term view. Like for the environmental thing, my generation is likely to still avoid the suffering comming from climate change and overexploitation of resources, so many people do not really care about it. But the politics should think about the far away future too, since it is their task, to ensure the wellbeing of the population of their country (and the world) even for the futur.
Sadly they get voted to solve only todays problems or they get voted cause they can make a show out of themself. Sometimes it feels like way less than 5% of all voters understand what they do, when they vote.

On the Autobahn when there is no sign there is no speed limit. There is a recommended speed of 130 km/h but you can drive as fast as you want to and the traffic situation allows. White signs with a red surrounding dictate the maximum speed.

  • @seanthiar

1:30 There is one thing she forgot. By law you not only have a warning triangle and an emergency vest, but you have to have a first aid kit with band aids, bandages and much more and without taking a first aid course you can't get a drivers license in Germany. And by law you have to help and give first aid in case of an emergency. If you don't do it you can be sued because of failure to assist a person in danger.
8:00 The highway/Autobahn had the wrong sign with 130kph. The other two 50kph for cities and 100kph for rural streets are a must. If you have a sign 'No speed limit' in those areas you have still to follow those general speed limits. But the 130kph is normally a filled blue square with a white 130 in in it to show it is a suggestion, not an order. Circle signs are orders, square signs are not. 130kph suggestion mean you can drive faster without any problem if there are no other signs that forbid it on the highway, but if you have an accident insurance and police will check how fast you were. If you were faster than the suggested speed of 130kph and they think your accident could have been avoided by driving the suggested speed of 130kph you get part of the guilt and the insurance will not pay the full amount of your damage.
10:00 Pfand (deposit) will include all containers used for beverages starting 2024. That includes glass and plastic bottles, beverage cartons etc. All of those will be reused or recycled.
13:40 Sorry, but she is wrong about the 'flaws'. I guess it is because she did not grew not up with it and don't know every aspect. True, you choose early for grade 5 which type of middle school (more practical (Hauptschule), more theoretical (Gymnasium) or a mix of both (Realschule)) you go to, but what she missed and most expats miss, is that you can choose again for grade 7 and if you show you are qualified you can continue after grade 10 in the theoretical school (Gymnasium)to get qualified for university/college in grade 11 to 12/13. And even if you are not qualified for university after school, finishing an apprenticeship and additional tests can qualify you for university, too. There are other methods to get qualified for university, but to talk about this would be to much for a comment.
19:00 Plastic bags are not allowed by law in any store. Exception are food places like take away restaurant that should avoid plastic bags, but when you get one it is always a flimsy one that easy rips. A bottle coke would just go thru it because of the weight.

    Some clarification:
The deposit system for bottles exists for decades
Initially implemented NOT by the german government but the beverage industries themselves, aimed at glass bottles (Milk, Wine, Beer, Spring water), it was intended so the glass bottles are returned to the the beverage producers the get washed out and refilled and reused.
A glass bottle can be refilled up to 50 times before it needs to be replaced.
I remember many US beverage companies did the same up until the early to mid 70s.
In 2002 the german government extended this system to plastic bottles and cans, originally to battle the increasing amount of plastic bottles, to force the producers back to refillable glass bottles.
But sadly it did not work as intended, but they kept it in place to battle the volume of trash.

    • @Why-D
      @Why-D 11 месяцев назад

They also had the standard bottles for beer or lemonade, until some joined in this system but didn't entered New bottles, when the others were damaged, so now many Producer have their own bottles for beer and water and the empty multi use bottles now have to travel long ways back.

I have to correct here something: That lady puts teachers in the section of the non-academic jobs. Teachers in germany have to get the highest university-examination - the first degree, state-examnination. And after that one 2 more "practical" years, which are considered as the most stressful, toughest education in our country.

You're right about major cities, and even smaller ones, having recycling systems in the US. I noticed In NYC for example my friend sorts his garbage, the landlord puts the different bags out on the curb BUT instead of a company collecting it, the homeless or less fortunate flock to them and they are the ones turning in the bottles and cans. In a way it works, but it is kinda sad. In rural Maine we turned the bags with cans and bottles into a local recycling centre, again a charity, not gvmt organised.

    10 km/h walking speed -- Fußgängerzone
30 km/h most minor roads in built up residential areas
50 km/h most common City zones
100 km/h most common outside City Limits

If the German school system works depends on who you ask.
The problem with this system is, that the future of a child will be decided, when the child is still to young to really grasp the impact the education will have on his life.
When you are 10 years old, things like education or studying to get a good job are just abstract constructs. Most kids that age won't even know what they'll want to do for a living when they grow up.
I myself got into the "Hauptschule" which is the lowest level of education, because I was caring more about hanging out with friends at that age, than doing homework. Most of the school subjects also seemed pointless to me and I couldn't picture how I would ever need this in my life. I just didn't understand what the education was for abs the school failed to explain this to me.
Later on when I got a few years older, I realised how important education is. But at that point I was already set in a path.
I graduated from the Hauptschule after the 10th grade, instead of the 9th, because that makes the graduation almost equal to the next higher level. Later on, when I had a job I was visiting evening school besides work and got a diploma, that is equal to a bachelors degree. And now I work in IT as a Software Developer.
Luckily there are ways to still get a higher degree, even if you've been set in a lower path of education, but it will be much harder, than if you've been on the higher education path from the start.
In my opinion a much better system would be, if everyone would go to the same school, but the students decide after which grade they graduate. You won't to do a job, where you don't need to study? Fine, you can graduate after grade 9 or 10. You still aren't sure or you want to do a job, where you need to study than do the school until the end and graduate after grade 13. Now you'll have the option of going to a university.
Unfortunately I don't see the school system ever changing. Because germany is so Liberal with every BS, but when it comes to important stuff, like the school system they just won't let go of a crapy system that hasn't changed in hundreds of years. Even though we live in the age of digitalisation, Germany still lives in the industrial age when it comes to the Internet and still in the middle ages when it comes to schools.

What the sign about the cars and them being allowed to tow is missing .... they have different Limits on how MUCH they are allowed to tow. You can NOT put a three ton "Wohnanhänger" behind a Fiat 500 f.e,
"unless, your brain isn't willing to accept it" - it does, it just takes some time, cause you are simply not used to it.
I know it first hand vice versa, cause I spend a lot of time in Los Angeles and had to get used to some signs and honestly, THEY didn't make sense, even though regarding the simple fact, that very often, you have to treat us-citziens like little kids ;-)
35 is mostly in the city, so what's your problem? That's the same as 50 km/h and we have zones, where you're not allowed to go fast then 18,5 mph, while you guys have 25.
I was relieved, that not every idiot, that is allowed to operate a car in the us, can drive als fast as they want, cause you'r "driving exams" and all that'sneed to get a DL there is a ridiculous joke and I know, cause I got myself a DL in california ;-)
Also, most roads in the US are nothing but a shame, even our few left roads made of cobblestones are better ...
Never seen just ONE ship in Los Angels and OC, that would take back bottles and return Pfand, cause you simply do NOT pay that at first - I just checkd my latest Aldi and Walmart bills, NO Pfand on it at all - what Hayley was missing, that it isn't about the size, but if the content cointans CO2 and that's why there is Pfand on cans too, no matter if an 1/8 gallon or half a liter, doesn't matter, you got to pay Pfand. Exceptions are what we call "Aktionsware", something a salesman has imported, so their containes lack the necessary sign on it.
What she means about "functional" ..... the school-system over here IS working, but she mentioned it before, even here, kids are "pushed" out of school by their PARENTS and I know what I am taling about. More functional would mean, that the system would have a deeper look at the kids abilities and therefore would be able to intervene or at least try to, like with scholarships in the US:
I don't think hat kids are too young ar 12 yrs old to decide, but the problem is, there are states, where "kids" have to decide at age 10,
The main difference is, EVERY kid over here has the possibility to go to school and more than that, we got the "Schulpflicht", compulsory school attendance, like in the UK and that goes ip to 18 yrs!
So, if you decide to do only the Realschulabschluss, or the MSA, what it is called today and then take on an appretenceship, you do no longer have to attend normal school, cause we got the "dual-system" over here, meaning that you are learning your job at a company and the basic/theory at a "Berufsschule" and the apprenticeship at average lasts three years.
That's why our system is more effective, since you do not have to attend college to become a plumber, which you would start at being 22 or 23. Over here, ypou start at 16 or 17 and finish at 19 or 20 and !!!!! even more important, you are making your own money from the start of that apprentrenceship. It's not a whole income, but since you usuall are still living at home at that age, you got to learn how to deal with that income AND you don't end up with a study loan, which you woll pay for the next 10 to 20 years.

The education system in Germany is not working at all. Every state has its own laws and rules and contradict each other. Infrastructure (buildings and interior) is in most cases outdated and often in bad shape. Many schools aren't prepared for digital literacy education. But back to the main topic: the different paths have some pros like mentioned in the video but the negative points are tremendous. Especially Hauptschule (secondary school year 5 to 9/10) is known for bad reputation and social harassment. Realschule (secondary school) und Gesamtschule (comprehensive school) are more respected. Only Gymnasium or the Gymnasium branch of Gesamtschule lead as high schools. Haupt- and Realschule represent middle schools or junior high schools. There are parties that want abolish that system.

      A little bit history:
The School system in Germany is "State" based because before 1945 it was Country based and so the Nazis could easily force the schools to only use the nazi books, teach the nazi view.
This made it possible that the only used official german math book contains tasks like "A poor germanic family needs on average 5Reichsmark per day for food. A disabled person costs the german society 40Reichsmark a day for care. - How many germanic families could the goverment feed for the cost of one useless disabled?"
Not to mention that in history, german literature, biology, ... only books where used where jews where the monsters and germans the victims of the jews.
To avoid this again the States got full control over the school system.
And if you (better your parents) chose the wrong path after 4th grade you can switch between the paths after 6thth grade, can add the 10th grade on a Hauptschule to get the same graduation as from a Realschule and switch to Gymnasium after realschul graduation if you want (and your grades are good enough).
I was first on the Realschule, graduated with good enough grades to switch to the Gymnasium after Realschul-graduation made my Abitur (the graduation where you can visit a University) and studied (with a Diploma in Computer Sience (equals to a master) - this was before germany switched to the Bachelor/Master System).
Additionally after Hauptschulabschluß normaly the students make a 3 year (payed) apprenticeship in specialiced working fields (Carpenter, Plumber,...) and got the "Gesellen" - graduation. With some years experience in your job you can qualify for a University (in fields connected with your job).

I don't know which country you are talking about but it's not Germany. Over all we got the "Gundgesetz" which stands above all. Furthermore every state (Bundesland) has its own laws but they are one step below the Grundgesetz. Our complete education system including the job training is the best in the world. You don't have to pay lots of money to go to the university, according to every intelligence level we have got three branches of school. Hauptschule for later craftsmen, Realschule for merchandisers and Gymnasium for merchandise jobs or for beeing able to go to a university. Germany is famous for its seperate education-system. Regarding infrastructure our roads are at top level. F.e. the Autobahn is repaired steadily if needed so in a lot areas there is no speed limit. The ruined GDR has been built up in only a few years. Compare pictures from communist times with now and you will see the difference. The same with railways (I think there are not so many railways in the USA as in Germany). You can drive though Germany with highspeed trains without long latency. So if you don't like Germany, just say it.

I've seen videos where the system is praised and Hauptschule is introduced as the education path for those not acadamically but technically skilled/gifted.
If that were true it would be amazing, but like zou daid it is more well known for "troublemakers" and social harassment.
A big negative is also the split up, at least in some cases. You split up after 4th grade and the teacher hives the parents the recommendation what kind of schooling your child would succeed in. Its a recommendation and parents are usually free to still choose another form, but some middle schools require the recommendation. If you got a good and conistent elementary school teacher (we had 4 in 4 years...) you might get a more solid and true recommandation.
However there have also been biases, I have 2 friends, both very smart, one even a straight A student now studying biochemestry, that had "poor" social standing. Aka inconsistent homs situation, "lower" jobs etc.
      They got recommended to Realschule.
Parents went against in because they saw the grades and tryd Gymnasium, which both adjusted perfectly to. In one case the girl even had the same grades as another, but she was recommended Realschule, while the other was sent to Gymnasium.
That bias towards the social background of children can stomp on their potential of the future.

@@noopaa_j Sadly it's unlikely to change, while our school system really needs a big overhaul...
The system should focus more on useful education and on life paths. Think the split between academic gifted, technically gifted and inbetweens is an nice concept and could really work out (If there is a clear trend for the child 4th grade is good enough for the split, those children where it is not clear, will be send to the Realschule, till it will be clear and then they can change schools, if they want or stay in the Realschule and switch to their lifepath afterwards).
But a lot of things need to change, first of all with the marking system and how it determines which school you go to. (our current marking system is useless to determinate anything, If I would wor in the human resources department of a company, I would develop my own test to see whether applicants are suitable because the marks tell you nothing about it.)
Next what is taught in school and how. An good example is always math, basically math is theoretically mostly to teach the underlying logical thinking, but since it is mostly taught with memorizing formulas you put numbers in it, without understanding what and why you do it, the logical thinking part is totally lost.
Our schoolsystem is so totally broken, that it always blows my mind, when I see that there are systems out there that are still worse.

The refund thing IS actual law, but most people pass on it, especially when it is less then a dollar, or like in the case that Hayley stated, they stick with one dollar and leave the rest there, but it is your right and yes, sadly .... maybe sometimes it is about "who" you are, standing in front of the cashier, you know what I mean ....
Because of that, I only pump benzin at stations where I can put in my card, cause then, it doesn't matter how much you put into your tank and you can even fill up that reserve, without the need of two transactions.
About the plastic bag ban, it is important to understand the graphic she has shown, cause this only counts for these thin bags, that you usually have put in your veggies, or that delivery services use to pack up your order. These are not allowed from a certain point on, but the usf og those heavy, sturdy bags, that you put i three 2l Coca Cola bottles, will still be leagl for some more years.
I got some of these that are five years old, cause if you treat them right, they last almost forever.
