Wow! I've just got this game last week. Interesting how you use the silver plate for bonus marker storage. It is better than the way it is described in the rules. Also how you place cubes on each side of the board is helpful.
If the rules are the same as in the original, they still make a lot of sense: we often forgot to place new tiles at the end of the turn without the reminder to place them on the plate before.
Big Box seems to just collect the expansions and nothing additional. Great for those that don't have the original and may be cheaper than buying out of print expansions individually, if you don't have them.
Love this game. I even like it at 2 with a variant I found on BGG. It's a game I can feel myself getting better at. Each upgrade is important and feels broken when you don't have them. So good!
I never tried the 2 player variant, I think it was official at one time. There were tokens for it and the rules were integrated in the main rule book of the version, I played. But we always played 3 to 5, and the owner of the copy agreed with Wendy, that the variant was terrible.
So I have read that this game is much better at higher player counts but I would love your opinion about playing it at the 3 player min player count. At that count is it still great or one to pass on until one has 4-5 players?
I have played it a lot at 3 and it plays pretty great still because the maps scale to player count. Of course with three you could also have the issue where one persons gets picked on more then anyone else issue.
Thank you for this very good tutorial and review! I heard so much positive things about this game. It is such a pitty that the artwork is so very dull, bland and uninspiring. And it would also have been nice if there were a two player variant and board.
Minor nitpick: 2:34 This is a bad example. Bumping out the player in this situation would mean, they will be "bumped out" to the last remaining empty space of that route, so you would gain nothing by that. You should always first occupy all empty spots on a route before starting there bumping out other pieces.
@@bennair101 And what if all adjacent routes are occupied? Might have been changed with the new edition, but the version, I played with, it was always the closest route, which in theory can be the same route you are bumped out. (But that would not happen, as people rather occupy these empty spaces themselves, before trying to push somebody out of the same route.) If there are several routes equidistant, you can choose for each cube or disc whichever eligible route you want to place them on.
@@markusschmidt9260 If all adjacent routes are full, you're allowed to chose routes adjacent to the full routes - but still not the route which you got bumped out. That's from my understanding and remembering.
Ah, but you see there's orange brown, green brown and red brown! How can you be uninspired with that amazing breadth of color diversity! 🤣 It's a great play experience for me, but it is for sure super beige.
The look of the game fits perfectly the medieval theme. If they would retheme it to "My Little Pony", they would go for pink. What's more important, that it creates interaction and urgency, other than the bland playing multiplayer solitaire point salats, companies create nowadays.
I love the value for cost of this game. A big box game with all of its expansions for less than 50USD? That's almost unheard of these days.
a lot of people think it lacks a theme or that the theme is dry. But i like the theme and think it works well with the mechanics of the game
Wendy's hair and makeup in this review are 😍😍😍
Hear Yi, Hear Yi. Ha! I love it.
Love this game and I've only played it once. :D Still need to work with all the expansions.

I have only played this once but I loved it. Gave me concordia feels.
Yeah Concordia rocks, too :)

That's typically what a Big Box is! 😊
For a big box it’s pretty cheap. I think I paid $30-35 for it
How well does it play at 2, though?
This only plays 3 to 5

2 player variant?! Wow, I was waiting for a 3rd player to take this off the shelf of shame. Thanks
We tried a two player variant once many years ago, and it was terrible.

Absolutely one of my favorite games. Smoooth.

I'm happy with every player count 3+
I have mostly played it 3p and it is great
I liked it at 2 players with a 3rd dummy player. 👍
Never played any of the expansions - adding to my wishlist!
That box title looks like Sansa Teutonica haha
Thank you for this very good tutorial and review!

Haha "Hear Yi"
For the current retail price (found it for 36 EUR) it's a steal.

No the rule says literally you have to place in onto an adjacent route.

This one does look cool- and i haven’t played a lot of euros!
Brown and uninspiring looking.... I have shallow tastes...
Might be fun to colour it

Don't let that dissuade you. It's one of my top three games ever.

The game play is just so good.
It is still in my top 10 games of all time. If it had a better theme/design it would be top 3 for sure.
