You have made a very important observation, getting women into sports and then men stealing the very little money and accolades from them, its a lot to think about

It's painful to watch, we're still not really closing the pay gap across the whole spectrum of sports, but we can definitely see more and more women getting decent sponsorship deals, at least in the stuff I do. So, hopefully, more organisations will wake up and stop this poaching and create Open categories within their respective sports.

LOL Males can move down to women's sports when they can no longer win in the men's sport . Women's sports are their retirement fund, easy money. They only need to say they identify as a woman.
Many transwomen have breads and don't dress like a woman. They still look like men and then they call you transphobic if you call them sir.

Don't forget which sex dominates long distance swimming.

Good point! In ultra-distance swimming (marathon swimming) - so over 10km/6 hours, women can and beat men - women are better at fat burning over longer distances than men, whereas we, as guys, dominate sprint and short to medium distances as women have lower hemoglobin levels, oxygen supply, and do not develop as much muscular power. So the longer the swim, the closer the gap becomes.

Women do very well at ultra-marathons as well, running 100+ miles. Courtney Dauwalter is a legend.

People just need to be educated on why women are upset that a transwoman can compete with them... I would say in the professional sport or a sport where if you win, you will be paid for all your hard work and your win with endorsements. That is pretty much the goal, to get endorsed by a product and that is where the money is. Men are just designed different. They are designed to be stronger with larger muscles and larger lungs, two key components in the world of sports. They are built to be stronger and faster than women and this is why sports have a men's league and a women's league, because it would be unfair for a woman to compete with men as they are by nature, stronger and faster than women. It doesn't matter who you identify as, and you can have all the characteristics of a female, but you are built and designed as a male body and that is the issue. It isn't just about the testosterone levels or outside anatomy, it's about the mechanics of the body and again, why men and women compete separately. If Rip Curl was remotely smart, they would have kept Bethany on and could still hire a transwoman, rather than how they handled it and they gave the world the impression, they are anything but inclusive. Women have a right to speak their minds about the sport they are in, they have a right to disagree, and they have a right to worry about the sports future and share that with the rest of the world. To lock a woman out because she is voicing her concern over the unfairness of a male bodied person competing against woman should not be a reason to burn a scarlette letter on them and put them aside. I thought those days were over? Women have voices, let them speak, listen and learn.

100% agree, they've made it look like it's one or the other and "if you're not with us you're against us". We just need third category across all sports, since we've got more and more trans athletes. And, sadly, instances like these are just turning the general public against them. Purely, because a brand is doing a marketing stance and amplifies virtue signalling.

@@JakeOski Someone had suggested a 'cis' category for the biological female / male. That is what they are referred to. I had no idea and had to google it. So, likely the world of sports will have to use the word 'cis' only. But yes, it's called divide and conquer. Get people to think one way and that's it. Don't tell them the facts and don't encourage them to get the facts themselves. Just tell them the basics and encourage them to hate anyone that doesn't follow along. Of course, in time this will change, and no one will want to admit they were wrong.

No Scottish heritage but I've called Scotland my home for the most of my adult life. Fantastic place for surf, biking, kites and generally being outdoors with an epic freedom to roam code. A bit on the cold side but meh, who cares!

Rip Curl is owned by Kathmandu (formal name KMD Brands Limited), which also owns Oboz. KMD Brands Limited is a New Zealand based publicly listed company. We plan to boycott them all, forever.

I can forgive Rip Curl because their suits are he best in my opinion and I hae tried many., having bought apx 50 or so 3'2, 5'4'3 , and 4'3 s over past 38 yrs, but really lame what they did. I all down fort trans rights, but not over womens rights. Trans athletes should not be allowed in any high level sporting events . Unless there is a seperate trans league. Honestly thought surfing would be imune from this mostly bullshit controversy. Seeing how ithas always been slightly homophobic. Glad that is changing. Still can't say that I have ever seen a chick with ..... in any lineup . Ever

We’ve got plenty of girls surfing up north, it’s a slowly but steadily growing community :) I’ve been using Flashbombs for ages but I’ve switched to Ion suits mainly and Mystic for both kitesurfing and surfing :)

Rip Curl has done more for women surfing than any other brand. They have had bigger and better paid women rosters than all the other brands. Though I partially understand the debate about transgender athletes and thinks its an important matter, I think you should be careful with absolute statements like that. Just because they have supported two transgender atheletes that does not mean that the whole brand is shit. Stab just recently wrote an article regarding the matter and I believe most of the brands critics exaggerate a lot.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski  8 месяцев назад +1

Oh they absolutely did, when Brian and Claw were in charge, alongside of O'Neill, Billabong, Roxy and plenty thers. Things changed a little after Kathmandu takeover, annoyingly. Dropping Beth after 20 years because she disagrees with the only allowed narrative is just shit. I'm not one for mixing religion into everything either, but it's her right to voice her opinion. Making that move, new owners of RC clearly showed where they stand. Mixing politics with surfing.
Supporting trans athletes in itself is absolutely right on, like I said - we should encourage everyone to get in the water. Same with comps, let's make Open cat a standard across the board. It just looks like it's one or the other.
People got mixed up between "hate speech" and "speech that they hate".

I was going to comment about how refreshing it is to see a balanced opinion on how unfair it is to let transwomen compete against women!
but I think it's unfair to just delete and not educate, so I won't be making this complimentary comment!
damn!... I see where I went wrong in this comment!
